A User Perception Model Concerning Safety and Security of Paratransit Services in Bandung, Indonesia

Safety and security in public transportation, Angkutan Kota or paratransit included, are among the commonly poor aspects in Indonesia. The objective of this research is to describe user perception of safety and security aspects in paratransit operation and to develop a model to predict and explain user choice in the future when there is an improvement. Users stated that the conditions of safety and security could be categorized as fair to dangerous. Realizing the condition, users still want to use paratransit because they have no other mode and paratransit can easily be found. The main reason for safety problems was the low degree of awareness of the driver in operating the car, while the main reason for security problems was the low degree of law enforcement and limited number of policemen (security officers). Users stated that the most responsible stakeholder in safety and security was the operator (driver and owner) and the police. Each aspect has two models using binomial logistic regression, namely a model with and without experience of accidents or criminal incidents. All models seem quite appropriate ones, as shown by their statistical measurement. Incorporating user experience improved the model fitness and improved the model in describing traveler characteristics

Pengaruh Penggunaan Speed Humps Terhadap Tingkat Kebisingan

Speed humps are speed limiting devices to protect pedestrians and reduce the accident rate. The installation of speed humps in residential can reduce the speed of motorists but, at the same time, also can create a problem. The purpose of this study is to analyze the noise level caused by installation of speed humps and to compare noise levels before and after vehicle crossed the speed humps. The results show that the noise levels caused by vehicles after passing the speed hump are higher that those before the hump. The average noise levels at distances of 50 m and 10 m before the speed hump are 64.15 dBA and 63.63 dBA, respectively. These values increase to 66.64 dBA and 69.89 dBA at distances of 50 m and 10 m after the speed hump. It is also found that the noise levels for different location and time of measurement are significantly different

The service quality of public transportation in several cities in Indonesia has not fulfilled the expectation yet. There are many negative experiences that have been experienced by the user of public transportation. Thepurposes of this study are to analyze the perception regarding negative experience experienced by the usersof the public transportation in Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta and to compare the perception of negativeexperience in those three cities. The data employed in this study are secondary data. Analysis in this studyapplies the non-parametric statistic method, i.e. k-independent sample and chi-square. The results show thatthere is significant different between perception of the users of public transportation and the negativeexperience in making use of public transportation. Frequencies for each negative experience in those threecities are also significantly different

A Review of the Travel Behavior Analysis: Its Basis and Application for Developing Cities

Travel, most often viewed in theory as derived from the demand for activity participation, has almost always been modeled on the trip-based basis, i.e., the trip is treated as the unit of analysis. Attributes of a trip (e.g., its origin and destination, mode, length) have been the subjects of analysis, but not the types of activities engaged in, their durations, sequences, and timing. This paper offers a brief review of the travel behavior analysis in order to provide a better understanding and forecasting of travel behavior. The article further offers discussions on its possible applications in urban areas of developing countries where historical accumulations of transportation and communications technologies are being introduced within a short span of time, creating the environment for travel which may not be properly accounted for using the conventional trip-based models of travel demand. In addition, the dataset from Malaysia was employed as a case of study

Pengembangan Metode Pengumpulan Data Perjalanan Berbasis Aktivitas Dan Lokasi

Travel analyses based on activity and location has not been well established in Indonesia yet since its complexity in the process of data collection and the needed resources. Thus, it is needed an effort to develop a method of data collection to facilitate future research. This study aims to develop a method of data collection regarding travel based activity and location with limited resources for application in Indonesia. The result of this study shows that the proposed method is able to collect the needed data using limited technology and resources

Kualitas Pelayanan Halte Trans Metro Bandung

One important aspect of the quality of Trans Metro Bandung (TMB) is a stop (shelter). Analysis of service quality of a shelter is important because it is directly felt by the users. The purpose of this study is to analyze the level of importance and satisfaction of the shelter of TMB. The data used in this study is primary data. Results of analysis show that there is no significant difference of the respondents' assessment for each aspect of quality of the shelter, both for the level of importance and satisfaction. The results also show that aspects with high level of importance did not experience as satisfaction. This study shows that there are several components perceived as importance but not satisfactory, which needs improvement or development, namely the cleanliness of bus stops, support facilities around the bus stops, and platform.
