Abstract only availableThis project originally set out to determine whether the mainstream image of the United States Foster Care System is negative and if it affects the individuals that decide to become and remain foster parents. It discusses the image of the United States Foster Care System by adults from varied backgrounds. The study attempts to see how certain variables affect the individuals' image of the foster care system. It was found that the general image of the foster care system is neutral no matter where the bulk of the information is from including but not limited to media, family or friends, personal experiences. Also the project found that gender affects the held views more than any of the other tested variables such as age, education, race.McNair Scholars Progra
