Research on the Strategy-based Instruction of News Broadcast Listening for English Minors in China
News broadcast, as a kind of authentic input, are invaluable materials to improve listening proficiency for both ESL and EFL learners. However, the particular characteristics of news broadcast present a number of challenges to achieving comprehension: unfamiliar patterns of discourse, vocabulary, speech rates, syntactic structures, and a high density of factual contents, etc. in this paper, based on the Constructivism views on education, the author chooses 86 English learners in China who take English as their second major as the research subjects, carries out a strategy-based instruction to the experimental group. After the 15-week instruction, the author collects and analyses the data to examine whether the strategy-based instruction would help students improve their news listening performance

The author in this paper takes a university-based ESP course, International Textile Trade English as a case study and applies the main conception of the four schools of Constructivism as a guide to organize teaching practice, with the expectation to explore the effective combination of Constructivism theory with the ESP teaching practice. An Empirical Study on the Influence of PBL Teaching Model on the Critical Thinking Ability of Non-English Majors
This study combines the PBL teaching model based on cooperative learning autonomous learning and inquiry learning with the intensive reading course of college English with the aim to test whether this model is conducive to promoting the critical thinking ability of students. Ability of second language acquisition (L2) is measured by language test and questionnaire survey among 95 subjects. The results show that the teaching model of PBL has a positive effect on improving students' critical thinking ability and second language acquisition ability
Experimental and Numerical Analysis of Rock Burst Tendency and Crack Development Characteristics of Tianhu Granite
Rock burst is a serious nonlinear dynamic geological hazard in underground engineering construction. In this paper, a true triaxial unloading rock burst experiment and numerical simulation are carried out on Tianhu granite to investigate the rock burst tendency and crack development characteristics of surrounding rock after excavation. The experiment and numerical simulation process monitored the rock burst stress path to determine the rock burst stress. According to the evolution law of the frequency and amplitude of rock burst acoustic emission monitoring, the shape characteristics of rock burst fragments are analyzed. The rock burst numerical simulation analysis is carried out by the PFC software, and the temporal and spatial evolution law of cracks is obtained. The research results show that the laboratory experiment and numerical simulation of Tianhu granite have rock burst strengths of 163.4 MPa and 161 MPa, respectively, and the average rock burst stress ratio is 8.38, that is, the Tianhu granite has a low rock burst tendency. During the rock burst, the development of tensile cracks will produce flaky debris, and the development of shear cracks will produce lumpy debris. Rock burst will happen when the crack growth rate to be exceeded the unloading crack growth rate; therefore, it can be used as a precursor signal for the occurrence of rock burst
Nonlinear Finite Strain Consolidation Analysis with Secondary Consolidation Behavior
This paper aims to analyze nonlinear finite strain consolidation with secondary consolidation behavior. On the basis of some assumptions about the secondary consolidation behavior, the continuity equation of pore water in Gibson’s consolidation theory is modified. Taking the nonlinear compressibility and nonlinear permeability of soils into consideration, the governing equation for finite strain consolidation analysis is derived. Based on the experimental data of Hangzhou soft clay samples, the new governing equation is solved with the finite element method. Afterwards, the calculation results of this new method and other two methods are compared. It can be found that Gibson’s method may underestimate the excess pore water pressure during primary consolidation. The new method which takes the secondary consolidation behavior, the nonlinear compressibility, and nonlinear permeability of soils into consideration can precisely estimate the settlement rate and the final settlement of Hangzhou soft clay sample
Natural products modulate cell apoptosis: a promising way for treating endometrial cancer
Endometrial cancer (EC) is a prevalent epithelial malignancy in the uterine corpus’s endometrium and myometrium. Regulating apoptosis of endometrial cancer cells has been a promising approach for treating EC. Recent in-vitro and in-vivo studies show that numerous extracts and monomers from natural products have pro-apoptotic properties in EC. Therefore, we have reviewed the current studies regarding natural products in modulating the apoptosis of EC cells and summarized their potential mechanisms. The potential signaling pathways include the mitochondria-dependent apoptotic pathway, endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) mediated apoptotic pathway, the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) mediated apoptotic pathway, NF-κB-mediated apoptotic pathway, PI3K/AKT/mTOR mediated apoptotic pathway, the p21-mediated apoptotic pathway, and other reported pathways. This review focuses on the importance of natural products in treating EC and provides a foundation for developing natural products-based anti-EC agents
A convenient co-precipitation method to prepare high performance LiNi 0.5 Mn 1.5 O 4 cathode for lithium ion batteries
Abstract(#br)A convenient and fast strategy to construct multistage spherical LiNi 0.5 Mn 1.5 O 4 by coprecipitation and following gradient temperature calcination has been developed. Considering about the effect of reaction kinetics, ethanol and water were used as co-solvent to accelerate the crystallite nucleation and reduce the reaction time. The precursors could be obtained within an hour with ethanol/water proportion of 1:3. Due to the synergistic effect of nanoscale primary particles and assembled micro-spheres of hierarchical LiNi 0.5 Mn 1.5 O 4 product, the material showed high electrochemical properties as cathode for lithium ion batteries. The cathode delivered 141 mAh g −1 at 1 C and maintained 94.2% after 200 cycles. Even at 10 C, 114 mAh g −1 could be retained. Furthermore, the full cell with Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 delivered 132.4 mAh g −1 at 1 C and kept 92.4% retention after 200 cycles. And the product at 55 °C also exhibited 133.2 mAh g −1 at 1 C and kept 93.2% after 100 cycles
Modality-based attention and dual-stream multiple instance convolutional neural network for predicting microvascular invasion of hepatocellular carcinoma
Background and purposeThe presence of microvascular invasion (MVI) is a crucial indicator of postoperative recurrence in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Detecting MVI before surgery can improve personalized surgical planning and enhance patient survival. However, existing automatic diagnosis methods for MVI have certain limitations. Some methods only analyze information from a single slice and overlook the context of the entire lesion, while others require high computational resources to process the entire tumor with a three-dimension (3D) convolutional neural network (CNN), which could be challenging to train. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a modality-based attention and dual-stream multiple instance learning(MIL) CNN.Materials and methodsIn this retrospective study, 283 patients with histologically confirmed HCC who underwent surgical resection between April 2017 and September 2019 were included. Five magnetic resonance (MR) modalities including T2-weighted, arterial phase, venous phase, delay phase and apparent diffusion coefficient images were used in image acquisition of each patient. Firstly, Each two-dimension (2D) slice of HCC magnetic resonance image (MRI) was converted into an instance embedding. Secondly, modality attention module was designed to emulates the decision-making process of doctors and helped the model to focus on the important MRI sequences. Thirdly, instance embeddings of 3D scans were aggregated into a bag embedding by a dual-stream MIL aggregator, in which the critical slices were given greater consideration. The dataset was split into a training set and a testing set in a 4:1 ratio, and model performance was evaluated using five-fold cross-validation.ResultsUsing the proposed method, the prediction of MVI achieved an accuracy of 76.43% and an AUC of 74.22%, significantly surpassing the performance of the baseline methods.ConclusionOur modality-based attention and dual-stream MIL CNN can achieve outstanding results for MVI prediction
