    A Design of MAC Model Based on the Separation of Duties and Data Coloring: DSDC-MAC

    Among the access control methods for database security, there is Mandatory Access Control (MAC) model in which the security level is set to both the subject and the object to enhance the security control. Legacy MAC models have focused only on one thing, either confidentiality or integrity. Thus, it can cause collisions between security policies in supporting confidentiality and integrity simultaneously. In addition, they do not provide a granular security class policy of subjects and objects in terms of subjects\u27 roles or tasks. In this paper, we present the security policy of Bell_LaPadula Model (BLP) model and Biba model as one complemented policy. In addition, Duties Separation and Data Coloring (DSDC)-MAC model applying new data coloring security method is proposed to enable granular access control from the viewpoint of Segregation of Duty (SoD). The case study demonstrated that the proposed modeling work maintains the practicality through the design of Human Resources management System. The proposed model in this study is suitable for organizations like military forces or intelligence agencies where confidential information should be carefully handled. Furthermore, this model is expected to protect systems against malicious insiders and improve the confidentiality and integrity of data

    Hérnia incisional no sítio de inserção do trocar de laparoscopia

    Laparoscopic operations offer a myriad of advantages resulting in a rapid postoperative recovery. Incisional hernia is an uncommon cause of morbidity in operative procedures performed by laparoscopic access, and the diagnosis may not be easily made. In our service we identified 2 patients with incisional hernia the site of trocar insertion. The records of these 2 cases were reviewed. We report on these 2 cases and present a review of the literature.As operações por via de acesso videolaparoscópica proporcionam, de um modo geral, uma série de vantagens refletidas em recuperação mais rápida no pós-operatório. Dentre as causas de morbidade da ferida cirúrgica no acesso laparoscópico, a hérnia incisional no sítio de inserção do trocar de laparoscopia é considerada incomum, podendo não ser facilmente diagnosticada. Em nosso serviço duas pacientes submetidas a colecistectomia laparoscópica evoluíram com hérnias incisionais. Apresentamos os relatos dos casos e revisão da literatura

    Vulnerability assessment for the hazards of crosswinds when vehicles cross a bridge deck

    AbstractA new procedure to assess the crosswind hazard of operating a vehicle over a bridge deck has been developed using a probabilistic approach that utilizes long-term wind data at bridge sites as well as the aerodynamic properties of bridge decks and vehicles. The proposed procedure for safety assessment considers the probabilities of two accident types: sideslip and overturning. The vulnerability of vehicles to crosswinds is represented by the number of days for traffic control that would be required to secure vehicle safety over a period of one year. The distribution of wind speed over a bridge deck was estimated from a section model wind tunnel test. A sea-crossing bridge was selected as an example, and a series of case studies were performed to identify the influential factors affecting vehicle vulnerability to crosswinds: vehicle type and loaded weight, the position of a running vehicle over a bridge deck, the bridge alignment relative to the dominant wind direction, and vehicle speed

    Hernioplastia inguinal segundo procedimento de Stoppa: drenar ou não drenar

    OBJETIVO: O objetivo do presente estudo é avaliar os benefícios da drenagem no procedimento de Stoppa no tratamento da hérnia inguinal. PACIENTES E MÉTODOS: O uso da drenagem de aspiração contínua foi randomizado ao final do procedimento cirúrgico em 26 pacientes submetidos à correção da hérnia inguinal e divididos em dois grupos: Grupo A, com 12 pacientes submetidos à drenagem e Grupo B, com 14 pacientes não submetidos à drenagem. No segundo dia de pós-operatório, todos os pacientes foram submetidos à tomografia computadorizada de abdome para a verificação de coleções abdominais. RESULTADOS: No Grupo A, nenhum paciente apresentou coleção no espaço pré-peritonial. Por outro lado, um paciente desenvolveu abcesso no espaço pré-peritonial no décimo quinto dia de pós-operatório. No Grupo B, 12 pacientes apresentaram coleção pré-peritonial à tomografia. Entretanto, somente três apresentaram complicações menores. Nenhum paciente apresentou complicação maior. CONCLUSÃO: O uso de drenagem de aspiração contínua no procedimento de Stoppa não traz nenhum benefício.OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to evaluate the benefits of drainage in the Stoppa procedure for inguinal repair. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The use of a suction drain was randomized at the end of the surgical intervention in 26 male patients undergoing inguinal hernia repair, divided into 2 groups: Group A, 12 patients undergoing drainage, and group B, 14 patients not undergoing drainage. On the second postoperative day, all patients underwent abdominal pelvic computed tomography scan examination to detect the presence of abdominal fluid collection. RESULTS: In group A, no patient developed fluid collection in the preperitoneal space, and 1 patient presented with an abscess in the preperitoneal space on the 15th postoperative day. In group B, 12 patients presented with fluid collections in the preperitoneal space on computed tomography scan evaluation. However, only 3 patients presented minor complications. None of the patients developed a major complication. CONCLUSION: The use of suction drainage with the Stoppa procedure does not provide any benefit

    Eliminating the Performance Anomaly of 802.11b

    Abstract. In this paper, we propose a mechanism to eliminate the per-formance anomaly of IEEE 802.11b. Performance anomaly happens when nodes that have different transmission rates are in the same wireless cell. All the nodes in the cell might experience the same throughput even though their transmission rates are different because DCF of WLAN provides equal probability of channel access, but it does not guarantee the equal utilization of the wireless channel among the nodes. To reduce such a performance anomaly, we adjust the frame size proportionally depending on the bit rate. Additionally, our scheme eliminates the per-formance anomaly in multi-hop case. Simulation study shows that our scheme achieves an improvement in the aggregate throughput and the fairness.

    Com o objetivo de avaliar as alterações do sistema de fibras elásticas relacionadas ao envelhecimento do ligamento interfoveolar estudou-se o anel inguinal profundo em 33 cadáveres do sexo masculino com idade variando de recém-nascido a 76 anos. Métodos de coloração seletiva para as fibras elásticas foram empregados para diferenciar fibras oxitalânicas, fibras elaunínicas e fibras elásticas maduras. Verificaram-se alterações quantitativas significantes no sistema de fibras elásticas do ligamento interfoveolar com o envelhecimento: uma redução progressiva de fibras oxitalânicas, responsáveis pela resistência do tecido conjuntivo, e um aumento de fibras elásticas maduras e elaunínicas, responsáveis pela elasticidade tecidual. Demonstraram-se alterações estruturais, como espessamento, encurtamento e encurvamento das fibras elásticas maduras e elaunínicas. Estas alterações induzem a perda de função das fibras elásticas, o que certamente levará a perda de complacência do ligamento interfoveolar, predispondo à hérnia inguinal indireta, que freqüentemente aparece em homens adultos ou idosos, especialmente acima de 50 anos de idade.In order to evaluate age related changes of the elastic fiber system in the interfoveolar ligament, we studied the deep inguinal ring from 33 male cadavers aged from stillborn to 76 years. Selective and alternated staining methods for elastic fibers were performed to differentiate oxytalan, elaunin, and mature elastic fibers. We confirmed quantitative changes of the elastic fiber system with aging. There was a significant and progressive reduction of the oxytalan fibers (responsible for tissue resistance) and a significant increment in the mature elastic and elaunin fibers (responsible for tissue elasticity). Furthermore, there were structural changes in the thickness, shortness and curling of these mature elastic fibers. These changes induced loss of the elastic fiber function and loss of the interfoveolar ligament compliance. These factors predispose individuals to the development of indirect inguinal hernias that frequently emerge in adults and aged individuals, especially above the fifth decade

    Chronic intermittent form of isovaleric aciduria in a 2-year-old boy

    Isovaleric aciduria (IVA) is caused by an autosomal recessive deficiency of isovaleryl-CoA dehydrogenase (IVD). IVA presents either in the neonatal period as an acute episode of fulminant metabolic acidosis, which may lead to coma or death, or later as a "chronic intermittent form" that is associated with developmental delays, with or without recurrent acidotic episodes during periods of stress, such as infections. Here, we report the case of a 2-year old boy with IVA who presented with the chronic intermittent form. He was admitted to Asan Medical Center Children's Hospital with recurrent vomiting. Metabolic acidosis, hyperammonemia, elevated serum lactate and isovalerylcarnitine levels, and markedly increased urine isovalerylglycine concentration were noted. Sequence analysis of the IVD gene in the patient revealed the novel compound mutations-a missense mutation, c.986T>C (p.Met329Thr) and a frameshift mutation, c.1083del (p.Ile361fs*11). Following stabilization during the acute phase, the patient has remained in a stable condition on a low-leucine diet

    Analysis of the characteristics of global virtual water trade network using degree and eigenvector centrality, with a focus on food and feed crops

    This study aims to analyze the characteristics of global virtual water trade (GVWT), such as the connectivity of each trader, vulnerable importers, and influential countries, using degree and eigenvector centrality during the period 2006&ndash;2010. The degree centrality was used to measure the connectivity, and eigenvector centrality was used to measure the influence on the entire GVWT network. Mexico, Egypt, China, the Republic of Korea, and Japan were classified as vulnerable importers, because they imported large quantities of virtual water with low connectivity. In particular, Egypt had a 15.3 Gm<sup>3</sup>&thinsp;year<sup>−1</sup> blue water saving effect through GVWT: the vulnerable structure could cause a water shortage problem for the importer. The entire GVWT network could be changed by a few countries, termed "influential traders". We used eigenvector centrality to identify those influential traders. In GVWT for food crops, the USA, Russian Federation, Thailand, and Canada had high eigenvector centrality with large volumes of green water trade. In the case of blue water trade, western Asia, Pakistan, and India had high eigenvector centrality. For feed crops, the green water trade in the USA, Brazil, and Argentina was the most influential. However, Argentina and Pakistan used high proportions of internal water resources for virtual water export (32.9 and 25.1 %); thus other traders should carefully consider water resource management in these exporters
