Theory for charge and orbital density-wave states in manganite LaSrMnO
We investigate the high temperature phase of layered manganites, and
demonstrate that the charge-orbital phase transition without magnetic order in
LaSrMnO can be understood in terms of the density wave
instability. The orbital ordering is found to be induced by the nesting between
segments of Fermi surface with different orbital characters. The simultaneous
charge and orbital orderings are elaborated with a mean field theory. The

Proteomic analysis of swine serum following highly virulent classical swine fever virus infection
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Classical swine fever virus (CSFV) belongs to the genus <it>Pestivirus </it>within the family <it>Flaviviridae</it>. Virulent strains of classical swine fever virus (CSFV) cause severe disease in pigs characterized by immunosuppression, thrombocytopenia and disseminated intravascular coagulation, which causes significant economic losses to the pig industry worldwide.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>To reveal proteomic changes in swine serum during the acute stage of lethal CSFV infection, 5 of 10 pigs were inoculated with the virulent CSFV Shimen strain, the remainder serving as uninfected controls. A serum sample was taken at 3 days post-infection from each swine, at a stage when there were no clinical symptoms other than increased rectal temperatures (≥40°C). The samples were treated to remove serum albumin and immunoglobulin (IgG), and then subjected to two-dimension differential gel electrophoresis.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Quantitative intensity analysis revealed 17 protein spots showing at least 1.5-fold quantitative alteration in expression. Ten spots were successfully identified by MALDI-TOF MS or LTQ MS. Expression of 4 proteins was increased and 6 decreased in CSFV-infected pigs. Functions of these proteins included blood coagulation, anti-inflammatory activity and angiogenesis.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>These proteins with altered expression may have important implications in the pathogenesis of classical swine fever and provide a clue for identification of biomarkers for classical swine fever early diagnosis.</p
Effects of Dietary Manganese Supplementation on Antioxidant Enzyme Activity in the Shrimp (Neocaridina heteropoda)
The effects of the manganese (Mn) supplemented diets on the level of superoxide anions (O-2) in the hemolymph, and the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) in the muscle of Neocaridina heteropoda were investigated. Manganese sulfate (MnSO4) was added to a basal diet at 0, 20, 40, 60, 80, or 100 μg/g. Diets were fed to triplicate groups of shrimp (0.30±0.11 g, 1.4±0.1 cm) in a recirculating freshwater rearing system for 30 days. The Mn concentration in the rearing water, monitored during feeding, was 1.00±0.02 μg/l. O-2 was lower and antioxidant enzyme activity was higher (p<0.05) in shrimps fed Mn-supplemented diets than in shrimps fed the control. Antioxidant enzyme activity reached a maximum when the Mn concentration was 60 μg/g diet
Myofilament Ca2+ desensitization mediates positive lusitropic effect of neuronal nitric oxide synthase in left ventricular myocytes from murine hypertensive heart
AbstractNeuronal nitric oxide synthase (NOS1 or nNOS) exerts negative inotropic and positive lusitropic effects through Ca2+ handling processes in cardiac myocytes from healthy hearts. However, underlying mechanisms of NOS1 in diseased hearts remain unclear. The present study aims to investigate this question in angiotensin II (Ang II)-induced hypertensive rat hearts (HP). Our results showed that the systolic function of left ventricle (LV) was reduced and diastolic function was unaltered (echocardiographic assessment) in HP compared to those in shams. In isolated LV myocytes, contraction was unchanged but peak [Ca2+]i transient was increased in HP. Concomitantly, relaxation and time constant of [Ca2+]i decay (tau) were faster and the phosphorylated fraction of phospholamban (PLN-Ser16/PLN) was greater. NOS1 protein expression and activity were increased in LV myocyte homogenates from HP. Surprisingly, inhibition of NOS1 did not affect contraction but reduced peak [Ca2+]i transient; prevented faster relaxation without affecting the tau of [Ca2+]i transient or PLN-Ser16/PLN in HP, suggesting myofilament Ca2+ desensitization by NOS1. Indeed, relaxation phase of the sarcomere length–[Ca2+]i relationship of LV myocytes shifted to the right and increased [Ca2+]i for 50% of sarcomere shortening (EC50) in HP. Phosphorylations of cardiac myosin binding protein-C (cMyBP-C282 and cMyBP-C273) were increased and cardiac troponin I (cTnI23/24) was reduced in HP. Importantly, NOS1 or PKG inhibition reduced cMyBP-C273 and cTnI23/24 and reversed myofilament Ca2+ sensitivity. These results reveal that NOS1 is up-regulated in LV myocytes from HP and exerts positive lusitropic effect by modulating myofilament Ca2+ sensitivity through phosphorylation of key regulators in sarcomere
Near-infrared and mid-infrared semiconductor broadband light emitters
Semiconductor broadband light emitters have emerged as ideal and vital light sources for a range of biomedical sensing/imaging applications, especially for optical coherence tomography systems. Although near-infrared broadband light emitters have found increasingly wide utilization in these imaging applications, the requirement to simultaneously achieve both a high spectral bandwidth and output power is still challenging for such devices. Owing to the relatively weak amplified spontaneous emission, as a consequence of the very short non-radiative carrier lifetime of the inter-subband transitions in quantum cascade structures, it is even more challenging to obtain desirable mid-infrared broadband light emitters. There have been great efforts in the past 20 years to pursue high-efficiency broadband optical gain and very low reflectivity in waveguide structures, which are two key factors determining the performance of broadband light emitters. Here we describe the realization of a high continuous wave light power of >20 mW and broadband width of >130 nm with near-infrared broadband light emitters and the first mid-infrared broadband light emitters operating under continuous wave mode at room temperature by employing a modulation p-doped InGaAs/GaAs quantum dot active region with a ‘J’-shape ridge waveguide structure and a quantum cascade active region with a dual-end analogous monolithic integrated tapered waveguide structure, respectively. This work is of great importance to improve the performance of existing near-infrared optical coherence tomography systems and describes a major advance toward reliable and cost-effective mid-infrared imaging and sensing systems, which do not presently exist due to the lack of appropriate low-coherence mid-infrared semiconductor broadband light sources
The Large Sky Area Multi-object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) Quasar Survey: Quasar Properties from Data Release Six to Nine
We report the fourth installment in the series of the Large Sky Area
Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) Quasar Survey, which
includes quasars observed between September, 2017 and June, 2021. There are in
total 13,066 quasars reliably identified, of which 6,685 are newly discovered
that are not reported in the SDSS DR14 quasar catalog or Million Quasars
catalog. Because LAMOST does not provide accurate absolute flux calibration, we
re-calibrate the spectra with the SDSS/Pan-STARRS1 multi-band photometric data.
The emission line properties of H, H, Mg\,{\sc ii} and C\,{\sc
iv}, and the continuum luminosities are measured by fitting the re-calibrated
spectra. We also estimate the single-epoch virial black hole masses () using the derived emission line and continuum parameters. This is the
first time that the emission line and continuum fluxes were estimated based on
LAMOST re-calibrated quasar spectra. The catalog and spectra for these quasars
are available online. After the nine-year LAMOST quasar survey, there are in
total 56,175 identified quasars, of which 24,127 are newly discovered. The
LAMOST quasar survey not only discovers a great number of new quasars, but also
provides a database for investigating the spectral variability of the quasars
observed by both LAMOST and SDSS, and finding rare quasars including

A simulation study on the measurement of D0-D0bar mixing parameter y at BES-III
We established a method on measuring the \dzdzb mixing parameter for
BESIII experiment at the BEPCII collider. In this method, the doubly
tagged events, with one decays to
CP-eigenstates and the other decays semileptonically, are used to
reconstruct the signals. Since this analysis requires good separation,
a likelihood approach, which combines the , time of flight and the
electromagnetic shower detectors information, is used for particle
identification. We estimate the sensitivity of the measurement of to be
0.007 based on a fully simulated MC sample.Comment: 6 pages, 7 figure
FAST observations of an extremely active episode of FRB 20201124A: IV. Spin Period Search
We report the properties of more than 800 bursts detected from the repeating
fast radio burst (FRB) source FRB 20201124A with the Five-hundred-meter
Aperture Spherical radio telescope (FAST) during an extremely active episode on
UTC September 25th-28th, 2021 in a series of four papers. In this fourth paper
of the series, we present a systematic search of the spin period and linear
acceleration of the source object from both 996 individual pulse peaks and the
dedispersed time series. No credible spin period was found from this data set.
We rule out the presence of significant periodicity in the range between 1 ms
to 100 s with a pulse duty cycle (when the profile is defined
by a von-Mises function, not a boxcar function) and linear acceleration up to
m s in each of the four one-hour observing sessions, and up to
m s in all 4 days. These searches contest theoretical scenarios
involving a 1 ms to 100 s isolated magnetar/pulsar with surface magnetic field
G and a small duty cycle (such as in a polar-cap emission mode) or a
pulsar with a companion star or black hole up to 100 M and
hours. We also perform a periodicity search of the fine structures and
identify 53 unrelated millisecond-timescale "periods" in multi-components with
the highest significance of 3.9 . The "periods" recovered from the fine
structures are neither consistent nor harmonically related. Thus they are not
likely to come from a spin period. We caution against claiming spin periodicity
with significance below 4 with multi-components from one-off
FRBs. We discuss the implications of our results and the possible connections

Novel Human Bocavirus in Children with Acute Respiratory Tract Infection
Human bocavirus (HBoV) and HBoV2, two human bocavirus species, were found in 18 and 10 of 235 nasopharyngeal aspirates, respectively, from children hospitalized with acute respiratory tract infection.
