Dopamine (DA) plays a pivotal role in reward processing, cognitive functions, and emotional regulation. The prefrontal cortex (PFC) is a critical brain region for these processes. Parvalbumin-positive (PV+) neurons are one of the major classes of inhibitory GABAergic neurons in the cortex, they modulate the activity of neighboring neurons, influencing various brain functions. While DA receptor expression exhibits age-related changes, the age-related changes of these receptors in PV+ neurons, especially in the PFC, remain unclear. To address this, we investigated the expression of DA D1 (D1R) and D2 (D2R) receptors in PV+ neurons within the orbitofrontal (OFC) and prelimbic (PrL) cortices at different postnatal ages (P28, P42, P56, and P365). We found that the expression of D1R and D2R in PV+ neurons showed both age- and region-related changes. PV+ neurons in the OFC expressed a higher abundance of D1 than those in the PrL, and those neurons in the OFC also showed higher co-expression of D1R and D2R than those in the PrL. In the OFC and PrL, D1R in PV+ neurons increased from P28 and reached a plateau at P42, then receded to express at P365. Meanwhile, D2R did not show significant age-related changes between the two regions except at P56. These results showed dopamine receptors in the prefrontal cortex exhibit age- and region-specific changes, which may contribute to the difference of these brain regions in reward-related brain functions

AbstractH9N2 viruses have circulated in domestic poultry in Mainland China since 1994, and an inactivated vaccine has been used in chickens to control the disease since 1998. The present study analyzed 27 H9N2 avian influenza viruses that were isolated from chickens and ducks from 1996 to 2002. Infection studies indicated that most of the viruses replicate efficiently but none of them is lethal for SPF chickens. However, these viruses exhibit different phenotypes of replication in a mouse model. Five viruses, including 4 early isolates and one 2000 isolate, are not able to replicate in mice; 14 viruses replicate to moderate titers in mouse lungs and cause less than 5% weight loss, while other 8 viruses could replicate to high titers in the lungs and 7 of them induce 10–20% weight loss of the mice on day 5 after inoculation. Most of the viruses isolated after 1996 are antigenically different from the vaccine strain that is currently used in China. Three viruses isolated in central China in 1998 are resistant to adamantanes. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that all of the viruses originated from CK/BJ/1/94-like virus and formed multiple genotypes through complicated reassortment with QA/HK/G1/97-, CK/HK/G9/97-, CK/SH/F/98-, and TY/WI/66-like viruses. This study is a description of the previously uncharacterized H9N2 avian influenza viruses recently circulating in chickens and ducks in Mainland China. Our findings suggest that urgent attention should be paid to the control of H9N2 influenza viruses in animals and to the human's influenza pandemic preparedness

Comparing with laser irradiation only, the laser ablation combined with chemical modification process is a widely used technique to obtain bio-inspired super-hydrophobic surface. However, the as-prepared surfaces may be polluted by toxic substance during chemical modification such as fluoroalkyl silane and stearic acid. The side effect of polluted functional surface on organisms and environment limited its application value. In this paper, a green and environmental-friendly super-hydrophobic surface was quickly fabricated on nitinol substrates through hybrid of nanosecond laser ablation and carbon ion implantation. The time that turning from super-hydrophilicity to super-hydrophobicity was only 16 hours exhibiting high efficiency compared with pure laser processing. Surface morphology and chemical component were systematically investigated to reveal the formation mechanism of super-hydrophobicity in such short time. The mechanical abrasion tests implied that the mechanical properties of surface microstructure could be heightened after carbon ion implantation, showing the superior structure stability. It is noted that chemical modified super-hydrophobicity could be hardly destroyed under high temperature, and the thermal stability of this ion implanted super-hydrophobic surface was on a par with it. This hybrid method of laser irradiation and carbon ion implantation paves a green way for rapid fabrication super-hydrophobic surface on nitinol, which would have great application value in biomedicine and industry

Immunoglobulin G (IgG) functionality can drastically change from anti- to proinflammatory by alterations in the IgG N-glycan patterns. Our previous studies have demonstrated that IgG N-glycans associated with the risk factors of dementia, such as aging, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and ischemic stroke. Therefore, the aim is to investigate whether the effects of IgG N-glycan profiles on dementia exists in a Chinese Han population. A case–control study, including 81 patients with dementia, 81 age- and gender-matched controls with normal cognitive functioning (NC) and 108 non-matched controls with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) was performed. Plasma IgG N-glycans were separated by ultra-performance liquid chromatography. Fourteen glycan peaks reflecting decreased of sialylation and core fucosylation, and increased bisecting N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc) N-glycan structures were of statistically significant differences between dementia and NC groups after controlling for confounders (p \u3c 0.05; q \u3c 0.05). Similarly, the differences for these 14 initial glycans were statistically significant between AD and NC groups after adjusting for the effects of confounders (p \u3c 0.05; q \u3c 0.05). The area under the receiver operating curve (AUC) value of the model consisting of GP8, GP9, and GP14 was determined to distinguish dementia from NC group as 0.876 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.815–0.923] and distinguish AD from NC group as 0.887 (95% CI: 0.819–0.936). Patients with dementia were of an elevated proinflammatory activity via the significant changes of IgG glycome. Therefore, IgG N-glycans might contribute to be potential novel biomarkers for the neurodegenerative process risk assessment of dementia

The deteriorating soil health under continuous monoculture is commonly found across various cropping systems. This study evaluated the effects of different tillage practices (conventional tillage and no till) and species mixtures (legumes and grasses) on arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) community properties, soil nutrients, and enzyme activity in a 3-year experiment. Compared with traditional tillage, the number of AMF species under no-till conditions was increased, with the Glomus group being dominant. Under different tillage conditions, TN (total N) and AN (available N) contents under no till were significantly higher than those under conventional tillage, while no significant differences among other nutrients were found. The activities of soil acid phosphatase (S-ACP), soil dehydrogenase (S-DHA), and soil sucrose (S-SC) under conventional tillage were significantly higher than those under no till, and the cover crop mixtures also had an exclusive advantage in yield. Soil organic matter (SOM) indicated a significant negative correlation with glomalin-related soil protein (GRSP). The increase in diversity associated with the AMF species community was strongly correlated with the increase in three enzyme activities, and AN was negatively correlated with all species. Tillage did not significantly change soil chemistry, except for AN, and the high concentration of AN led to a decrease in AMF species. The results of this study showed that no till was an effective measure for enriching soil micro-organism population. Additionally, soil AMF diversity was improved by cover crop mixtures, and microbial diversity was higher than that under monoculture cover crops. Different AMF groups responded differently to tillage and cover crop mixtures. Across all mixtures, the combination of hairy vetch (Vicia villosa R.) and ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) performed the best

Soil organic phosphorus (P) mineralization is catalyzed by phosphatases synthesized by plants or microorganisms, particularly when organic P is present and inorganic P is limited. We investigated how P status affects the substrate induction response of phosphatase activities and changes in labile inorganic P (ΔNaHCO3-Pi) by adding phosphodiester to long-term low P and high P-fertilized soils. Phosphodiester addition significantly increased acid phosphomonoesterase activity and ΔNaHCO3-Pi, while exhibiting non-significant effect on phosphodiesterase activity. No significant differences were observed in phosphodiester-induced phosphatase activities and ΔNaHCO3-Pi between the low P and high P-fertilized soils. Our results indicate that phosphodiester may incentivize microbially mediated enzymatic P mineralization not necessarily for P but possibly for energy. This emphasizes the importance of phosphodiester in the development of microbial strategies for mobilizing soil P

Modified Biochars and Their Effects on Soil Quality: A Review

Biochar (BC) has attracted attention due to its impacts on soil quality by enhancing soil fertility, carbon storage and contaminants immobilization. BC also induces changes in microbial community structure and enhances crop productivity in long term scenarios compared to many other organic amendments. However, information related to the role of modified BCs in altering the soil quality is still scarce. BC can be modified by using physical, chemical and microbial methods. Modified BC can change the functional groups, pore size, pore structure, surface area and chemical properties of soil, which plays a key role in changing the soil quality. The addition of modified BCs as soil amendment increased soil CEC (cation exchange capacity), EC (electron conductivity), pH, organic matter, hydraulic conductivity, soil porosity, infiltration rate, microbial activities (enzymes and community), nutrient profile and gas exchange properties, but it varies according to the soil structure and pervading environmental conditions. This study provides a basis for effective practical approaches to modifying BCs for improving soil quality

Information on the relationships between phosphatase activities and organic phosphorus (P) turnover is fundamental to understanding soil P dynamics but remains poorly understood. An 8-year field study was conducted in a steppe and an abandoned cropland under semi-arid grasslands to explore the effects of nitrogen (N) and P additions on P composition in soil as determined by ³¹P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and associated phosphatase activities. Results showed that the phosphate monoester content, soil acid phosphomonoesterase, alkaline phosphomonoesterase, and phosphodiesterase activities were higher in the steppe than in the abandoned cropland soil. Nitrogen addition significantly suppressed phosphatase activities. Phosphorus addition significantly increased acid phosphomonoesterase, alkaline phosphomonoesterase, and phosphodiesterase activities in the steppe but significantly decreased them in the abandoned cropland. Structural equation modeling revealed that both phosphodiesterase and alkaline phosphomonoesterase activities showed significant negative effects on diesters and monoesters in the steppe, but there were no significant effects of phosphatase activities on organic P composition in the abandoned cropland. Our findings highlight the variation of dominant mechanisms involved in organic P turnover with land use change. Phosphorus deficiency in the steppe appeared to promote the production of phosphatases and the subsequent biochemical mineralization of organic P. While in the abandoned cropland, previous cultivation resulted in a proportionally greater loss of soil organic carbon than that of organic P, indicating that organic P was mineralized as a result of biological mineralization of organic matter

Implementing risk assessment is of great significance to aviation safety. At present, with the gradual assembly of large transport aircraft with troops, it has become an urgent matter to carry out reloading airdrop to achieve the desired combat purpose and effect. In this paper, the task process of reloading airdrop is described in detail, the risk evaluation index system is established by using the questionnaire, and the probability and severity of the evaluation index are scored, and the risk grade is determined according to the risk matrix. Finally, the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process is used for risk assessment, and the corresponding preventive measures are put forward. The evaluation results show that in the process of heavy load airdrop, attention should be paid to the possibility of aircraft instability during the process of equipment and materials delivery
