    Speed Co-Augmentation for Unsupervised Audio-Visual Pre-training

    This work aims to improve unsupervised audio-visual pre-training. Inspired by the efficacy of data augmentation in visual contrastive learning, we propose a novel speed co-augmentation method that randomly changes the playback speeds of both audio and video data. Despite its simplicity, the speed co-augmentation method possesses two compelling attributes: (1) it increases the diversity of audio-visual pairs and doubles the size of negative pairs, resulting in a significant enhancement in the learned representations, and (2) it changes the strict correlation between audio-visual pairs but introduces a partial relationship between the augmented pairs, which is modeled by our proposed SoftInfoNCE loss to further boost the performance.     Dai-Huang-Fu-Zi-Tang Alleviates Intestinal Injury Associated with Severe Acute Pancreatitis by Regulating Mitochondrial Permeability Transition Pore of Intestinal Mucosa Epithelial Cells

    Objective. The aim of the present study was to examine whether Dai-Huang-Fu-Zi-Tang (DHFZT) could regulate mitochondrial permeability transition pore (MPTP) of intestinal mucosa epithelial cells for alleviating intestinal injury associated with severe acute pancreatitis (SAP). Methods. A total of 72 Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 3 groups (sham group, SAP group, and DHFZT group, n=24 per group). The rats in each group were divided into 4 subgroups (n=6 per subgroup) accordingly at 1, 3, 6, and 12 h after the operation. The contents of serum amylase, D-lactic acid, diamine oxidase activity, and degree of MPTP were measured by dry chemical method and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The change of mitochondria of intestinal epithelial cells was observed by transmission electron microscopy. Results. The present study showed that DHFZT inhibited the openness of MPTP at 3, 6, and 12 h after the operation. Meanwhile, it reduced the contents of serum D-lactic acid and activity of diamine oxidase activity and also drastically relieved histopathological manifestations and epithelial cells injury of intestine. Conclusion. DHFZT alleviates intestinal injury associated SAP via reducing the openness of MPTP. In addition, DHFZT could also decrease the content of serum diamine oxidase activity and D-lactic acid after SAP

    Clinical prognostic factors for central neurocytoma and subgroup analysis of different treatment measures: A SEER database-based retrospective analysis from 2003 to 2019

    PurposeThe study aimed to identify clinical prognostic factors affecting overall survival (OS) in patients with central neurocytoma (CN) and to determine independent prognostic factors in the subgroups of different treatment modalities using a retrospective analysis based on the SEER database from 2003 to 2019.Materials and methodsData regarding patients with CN, including basic clinical characteristics, treatment measures, and prognosis follow-up, were extracted from the SEER database. The prognostic variables for all patients were assessed using log-rank test as well as univariate and multivariate analyses based on the Cox proportional hazards model. The same statistical methods were used for analysis in different subgroups of gross total resection (GTR), subtotal resection (STR), no surgery, radiotherapy (RT), and no RT.ResultsIn total, 413 patients were enrolled in this study. Tumor size, primary site surgery, and RT were independent prognostic factors in all patients with CN. In subgroup analyses, RT was not an independent prognostic factor in patients with GTR. However, sex and race were independent prognostic factors in patients with STR. Additionally, tumor size was an independent prognostic factor in patients who did not undergo surgery. Furthermore, sex and primary site were independent prognostic factors in patients who received RT. Size and primary site surgery were independent prognostic factors in patients without RT.ConclusionIn our study, patients with small tumors or GTR or those who did not receive RT showed a better prognosis. GTR was the preferred treatment for CN. RT was not recommended for patients after GTR. Men and African American showed certain advantages after STR surgery. Tumors with a size of >4 cm were recommended for active treatment. In the RT subgroup, patients with tumors outside the ventricle or women had a poorer prognosis than those with tumors within the ventricle or men, respectively. These findings will help clinicians and patients understand the treatment and prognosis of CN visually and intuitively

    High-resolution carbon isotope stratigraphy of the Lower and Middle Ordovician succession of the Yangtze Platform, China

    Variation in the relative abundance of the stable carbon isotopes has been widely used to correlate Ordovician marine successions over the past two decades. To date, only a few of studies of Ordovician carbon chemostratigraphy have been conducted in South China. Most of the previous studies in this field have focused on specific time intervals and/or events in the Middle and Upper Ordovician. The Lower and Middle Ordovician of the Yangtze Platform is typically represented by a sedimentary succession dominated by carbonate rocks, which is ideal for studying the carbon chemostratigraphy. Three sections spanning the Nantsinkuan/Lunshan, Fenhsiang, Hunghuayuan, and Dawan/Zitai formations, corresponding to the TremadocianâDapingian in age, have been sampled for high-resolution δ13C chemostratigraphy. Our new δ13C data reveal five tie-points with the potential for global correlation: (1) a positive δ13C excursion in the lower Nantsinkuan Formation within the Tremadocian Rossodus manitouensis Zone; (2) an excursion with two peaks roughly within the late Tremadocian Paltodus âdeltiferâ Zone; (3) a positive δ13C shift in the lower Hunghuayuan Formation, within the early Floian Serratognathus diversus Zone; (4) a gradual positive δ13C shift in the late Floian, ranging from the uppermost S. diversus Zone to the basal Oepikodus evae Zone; (5) a minor negative shift in the lower Dawan/Zitai Formation, within the early Dapingian Baltoniodus triangularis Zone. These excursions are herein used for correlation of the Yangtze Platform strata with successions from South China, North China, the Argentine Precordillera, North America and Baltica. From a palaeogeographical perspective, the Gudongkou, Xiangshuidong and Daling sections represent depositional environments along an inner to outer ramp profile. The δ13C data from these sections show successively heavier (higher) δ13C values with increasing depositional depth, which can be interpreted as due to remineralization of organic carbon within the carbonate rocks formed in the shallow-water environment

    Numerical investigation of air-entrainment in skimming flow over stepped spillways

    AbstractAs a widely used flood energy dissipator, the stepped spillway can significantly dissipate the kinetic or hydraulic energy due to the air-entrainment in skimming flow over the steps. The free-surface aeration involves the sharp deformation of the free surface and the complex turbulent shear flows. In this study, the volume of fluid (VOF), mixture, and Eulerian methods are utilized to simulate the air-entrainment by coupling with the Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes/large eddy simulation (RANS/LES) turbulence models. The free surface deformation, air volume fraction, pressure, and velocity are compared for the three different numerical methods. Only the Eulerian+RANS method fails to capture the free-surface aeration. The air volume fraction predicted by the VOF+LES method best matches the experimental measurement, while the mixture+LES method predicts the inception point of the air entrainment more accurately

    Modelling of Defluidization of ZrO2/Fe Particles in High Temperature Gas Fluidization: Influence of Fe Contents

    The contents of Fe on the surface of iron ore fines had a great influence on the fluidization behavior during high temperature fluidized bed reduction, which would cause defluidization when exceeding a critical value. In this paper, simplistically, ZrO2/Fe particles with different Fe contents on the surface were used as raw materials. Through modification of previous models, a quantitative relationship was established to predict the defluidization temperature of ZrO2/Fe particles with different Fe contents, and the calculation results corresponded well with the experimental data obtained from the defluidization test. The model in this paper firstly explained the dependence of defluidization behavior on the contents of Fe in high temperature gas fluidization, and it could well predict the metallization degree of commercial iron ore fines when defluidization occurred during fluidized bed reduction. Therefore, the model could be used as a reference to select suitable operating conditions for treating fine iron oxide particles in high temperature gas fluidization processes, such as direction reduction and chemical looping

    Significance of Serum Angiopoietin-2 in Patients with Hemorrhage in Adult-Onset Moyamoya Disease

    Background. Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a progressive occlusive cerebrovascular disease that is characterized by abnormal angiogenesis at the base of the brain. This pathological abnormal angiogenesis is susceptible to disturbances, including spontaneous hemorrhage and vasogenic edema. However, the underlying mechanisms of pathological angiogenesis and occurrence of hemorrhage are unclear. Angiopoietins play a fundamental role in the pathophysiology of central nervous system disorders in angiogenesis. This study was aimed at examining whether angiopoietins are associated with formation of abnormal collateral vessels and the occurrence of hemorrhage in adult-onset moyamoya disease (HMMD). Methods. A total of 27 consecutive adult patients with HMMD were enrolled from June 2011 to May 2017. Serum levels of angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1) and angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2) were examined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Patients with HMMD were compared with those with spontaneous hemorrhage (controls) and nonhemorrhagic-onset MMD (NHMMD). Results. Serum Ang-2 levels were significantly higher in patients with adult HMMD than in those with spontaneous hemorrhage and NHMMD. The ROC curve identified that a baseline serum Ang-2 level>1230 ng/ml may be associated with adult HMMD with 88.39% sensitivity and 70.37% specificity (area under the curve (AUC), 0.89; 95% CI, 0.808-0.973; P<0.001). Moreover, serum Ang-2 levels were significantly elevated in stages II, III, and IV. In subgroup analysis of a high and low degree of moyamoya vessels, serum Ang-2 levels were significantly higher in the high moyamoya vessel group than in the low moyamoya vessel group. Serum Ang-2 levels were also significantly higher in the low moyamoya vessel group compared with the control group. Serum Ang-1 levels were not significantly different among the groups. Conclusion. Increased serum Ang-2 levels may contribute to pathological abnormal angiogenesis and/or to the instability of vascular structure and function, thus causing brain hemorrhage in adult HMMD

    Circulating trends of hand, foot, and mouth disease in Hubei Province, China: Impact from the COVID-19 pandemic

    Objectives: This study was performed to investigate the effect of non-pharmaceutical interventions on hand, foot, and mouth disease in Hubei Province China during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. Methods: Data and samples were collected from the hand, foot, and mouth disease surveillance laboratory network in Hubei Province between 2018 and 2022. The samples were identified as Enterovirus A71, Coxsackievirus A6or Coxsackievirus A16 via real-time polymerase chain reaction. Representative Coxsackievirus A6 and Coxsackievirus A16 samples were sequenced and subjected to phylogenetic analyses. Results: A noticeable 3-fold reduction in the number of hand, foot, and mouth disease cases was observed from 2019 to 2020. The age and sex distributions of patients with hand, foot, and mouth disease were approximately the same from 2018 to 2022. The proportion of Coxsackievirus A6 accounted for 86 % in 2020 and 75 % in 2021 for hand, foot, and mouth disease compared with 48 % in 2018, 53 % in 2019, and 29 % in 2022. The proportions of Coxsackievirus A16 in 2020 and 2021 were 2 % and 17 %, respectively, showing a sharp decline in 2018 (37.8 %) and 2019 (35 %). In 2022, Coxsackievirus A16 was the dominant serotype (46 %). Only slight differences were found in the VP1 sequences across the different years. Conclusions: Our study confirmed that a series of non-pharmaceutical interventions during the coronavirus disease 2019 period reduced the transmission of enteroviruses and that long-term restrictions could significantly change the prevalence of enterovirus serotypes causing hand, foot, and mouth disease
