    In the title compound, C15H14N2O3·H2O [systematic name: 3-(7-meth­oxy-9H-pyrido[3,4-b]indol-1-yl)propanoic acid monohydrate], the fused rings make dhedral angles of 0.4 (1), 1.1 (2) and 1.4 (2)°. In the crystal, the water mol­ecule is involved in the formation of three independent hydrogen-bonded chains via O—H⋯O and N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, while the carb­oxy group forms an inter­molecular O—H⋯N hydrogen bond

    Because Deng’s grey relational degree is inconspicuous, Deng’s relational degree with an exponential function is first presented. Then, we demonstrate that improved Deng’s relational degree is more conspicuous than the original model. Then, we construct a multiple-attribute decision-making model, based on improved Deng’s relational degree with multiple stages, and a method for determining the weight of the index is also developed. Finally, the core competence of private enterprises in Henan province is analyzed, illustrating the validity and feasibility of the improved model

    Dynamical Properties of Environmental High-Performance Composites with Calcined Clay

    Concrete structures may be exposed to dynamic loadings within short periods such as earthquakes and vehicles load, resulting in substantial damage to human life and property because of the collapse of concrete structures. The research achievements on dynamic properties of high-performance composites with LC3 (HPC-LC3) are limited, although dynamic loadings are commonly encountered in infrastructure. The study aims to develop a new-green concrete product (HPC-LC3) with high dynamical properties and promote its mass use in a vibration service environment by investigating dynamical properties of HPC-LC3. Dynamical properties of structure can be promoted at material level by means of enhancing the inherent ability of cement-matrix materials to passively absorb the vibrational energy. Dynamic properties of traditional HPC may be improved by incorporated LC3 because of excellent mechanical properties. The fiber pull-out, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), (nuclear magnetic resonance) NMR, and microstructure test were used to reveal the enhanced mechanism of dynamic properties in the HPC with LC3 (HPC-LC3), and the economic efficiency of HPC is also evaluated to promote its mass application. The results indicate that the dynamic properties of HPC-LC3 increased by 47% in damping capacity, 102% in storage modulus, 16% in energy dissipation, in comparison with the reference (HPC-OPC). Meanwhile, compared with the reference, the compressive and flexural strengths of LC3-50 increased by 14% and 27%. TGA and NMR results indicate that LC3-50 shows better hydration characteristics, longer alumina-silicate chain length (from 3.9 to 8) than HPC-OPC. The proposed composites reduced embodied energy, embedded CO2 emissions, and costs of HPC by up to 33%, 45%, and 7%, respectively. Thus, the green product (HPC-LC3) with 30%–40% calcined clay, high dynamic properties and more sustainable, will be recommended to mass use in a vibration service environment

    Action Mechanisms of Du-Huo-Ji-Sheng-Tang on Cartilage Degradation in a Rabbit Model of Osteoarthritis

    Du-Huo-Ji-Sheng-Tang (DHJST) is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine used to treat osteoarthritis. In the present study, the therapeutic effect of DHJST on cartilage degradation in a rabbit model of osteoarthritis was investigated. In the knee joints of rabbits, anterior cruciate ligament transection (ACLT) was performed to induce experimental osteoarthritis. At the end of the sixth week, 30 rabbits with ACLT were divided into six groups, control group, DHJST group and Osaminethacine (OSA) group, which were followed for another 4 weeks. The other three groups of rabbits with ACLT were untreated with DHJST or OSA, which were sacrificed after 6 weeks, and served as 6-week time point controls. Results indicated that at the end of the sixth week after surgery, there was a significantly histological degeneration in the control group compared with the normal group. In the control group, the mean score for histological degeneration were further increases at 10th week, and there was a significantly lower mean score for histological degeneration in the DHJST group compared with the control group. To research the potential mechanism, the expression level of VEGF and HIF-1α were detected. The expression of VEGF mRNA and HIF-1α mRNA are low in normal group, while the activities increase gradually in the control group. However, compared to that of the same time point model group, activity of VEGF and HIF-1α decreased significantly in DHJST group. In conclusion, DHJST exerts significant therapeutic effect on osteoarthritis rabbits, and mechanisms are associated with inhibition of VEGF and HIF-1α expression

    Suppressed star formation in circumnuclear regions in Seyfert galaxies

    Feedback from black hole activity is widely believed to play a key role in regulating star formation and black hole growth. A long-standing issue is the relation between the star formation and fueling the supermassive black holes in active galactic nuclei (AGNs). We compile a sample of 57 Seyfert galaxies to tackle this issue. We estimate the surface densities of gas and star formation rates in circumnuclear regions (CNRs). Comparing with the well-known Kennicutt-Schmidt (K-S) law, we find that the star formation rates in CNRs of most Seyfert galaxies are suppressed in this sample.
