Finite volume corrections to the binding energy of the X(3872)
The quark mass dependence of hadrons is an important input for lattice
calculations. We investigate the light quark mass dependence of the binding
energy of the X(3872) in a finite box to next-to-leading order in an effective
field theory for the X(3872) with perturbative pions (XEFT). At this order, the
quark mass dependence is determined by a quark mass-dependent contact
interaction in addition to the one-pion exchange. While there is only a
moderate sensitivity to the light quark masses in the region up to twice their
physical value, the finite volume effects are significant already at box length
as large as 20 fm.Comment: 23 pages, 9 figures, REVTe
Cross-Correlation-Function-Based Multipath Mitigation Method for Sine-BOC Signals
Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) positioning accuracy indoor and urban canyons environments are greatly affected by multipath due to distortions in its autocorrelation function. In this paper, a cross-correlation function between the received sine phased Binary Offset Carrier (sine-BOC) modulation signal and the local signal is studied firstly, and a new multipath mitigation method based on cross-correlation function for sine-BOC signal is proposed. This method is implemented to create a cross-correlation function by designing the modulated symbols of the local signal. The theoretical analysis and simulation results indicate that the proposed method exhibits better multipath mitigation performance compared with the traditional Double Delta Correlator (DDC) techniques, especially the medium/long delay multipath signals, and it is also convenient and flexible to implement by using only one correlator, which is the case of low-cost mass-market receivers
Quantum dynamics of an Ising spin-chain in a random transverse field
We consider an Ising spin-chain in a random transverse magnetic field and
compute the zero temperature wave vector and frequency dependent dynamic
structure factor numerically by using Jordan-Wigner transformation. Two types
of distributions of magnetic fields are introduced. For a rectangular
distribution, a dispersing branch is observed, and disorder tends to broaden
the dispersion peak and close the excitation gap. For a binary distribution, a
non-dispersing branch at almost zero energy is recovered. We discuss the
relationship of our work to the neutron scattering measurement in

SPSA-Based Tracking Method for Single-Channel-Receiver Array
A novel tracking method in the phased antenna array with a single-channel receiver for the moving signal source is presented in this paper. And the problems of the direction-of-arrival track and beamforming in the array system are converted to the power maximization of received signal in the free-interference conditions, which is different from the existing algorithms that maximize the signal to interference and noise ratio. The proposed tracking method reaches the global optimum rather than local by injecting the extra noise terms into the gradient estimation. The antenna beam can be steered to coincide with the direction of the moving source fast and accurately by perturbing the output of the phase shifters during motion, due to the high efficiency and easy implementation of the proposed beamforming algorithm based on the simultaneous perturbation stochastic approximation (SPSA). Computer simulations verify that the proposed tracking scheme is robust and effective
Observation of Landau level-like quantizations at 77 K along a strained-induced graphene ridge
Recent studies show that the electronic structures of graphene can be
modified by strain and it was predicted that strain in graphene can induce
peaks in the local density of states (LDOS) mimicking Landau levels (LLs)
generated in the presence of a large magnetic field. Here we report scanning
tunnelling spectroscopy (STS) observation of nine strain-induced peaks in LDOS
at 77 K along a graphene ridge created when the graphene layer was cleaved from
a sample of highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG). The energies of these
peaks follow the progression of LLs of massless 'Dirac fermions' (DFs) in a
magnetic field of 230 T. The results presented here suggest a possible route to
realize zero-field quantum Hall-like effects at 77 K
Finite-volume Hamiltonian method for coupled channel interactions in lattice QCD
Within a multi-channel formulation of scattering, we investigate the
use of the finite-volume Hamiltonian approach to resolve scattering observables
from lattice QCD spectra. The asymptotic matching of the well-known L\"uscher
formalism encodes a unique finite-volume spectrum. Nevertheless, in many
practical situations, such as coupled-channel systems, it is advantageous to
interpolate isolated lattice spectra in order to extract physical scattering
parameters. Here we study the use of the Hamiltonian framework as a
parameterisation that can be fit directly to lattice spectra. We find that with
a modest amount of lattice data, the scattering parameters can be reproduced
rather well, with only a minor degree of model dependence.Comment: 25 pages, 16 figure
A rapid staining-assisted wood sampling method for PCR-based detection of pine wood nematode Bursaphelenchus xylophilus in Pinus massoniana wood tissue
For reasons of unequal distribution of more than one nematode species in wood, and limited
availability of wood samples required for the PCR-based method for detecting pinewood nematodes in
wood tissue of Pinus massoniana, a rapid staining-assisted wood sampling method aiding PCR-based
detection of the pine wood nematode Bursaphelenchus xylophilus (Bx) in small wood samples of P.
massoniana was developed in this study. This comprised a series of new techniques: sampling, mass
estimations of nematodes using staining techniques, and lowest limit Bx nematode mass determination
for PCR detection. The procedure was undertaken on three adjoining 5-mg wood cross-sections, of
0.5 · 0.5 · 0.015 cm dimension, that were cut from a wood sample of 0.5 · 0.5 · 0.5 cm initially, then
the larger wood sample was stained by acid fuchsin, from which two 5-mg wood cross-sections (that
adjoined the three 5-mg wood cross-sections, mentioned above) were cut. Nematode-staining-spots
(NSSs) in each of the two stained sections were counted under a microscope at 100· magnification. If
there were eight or more NSSs present, the adjoining three sections were used for PCR assays. The
B. xylophilus – specific amplicon of 403 bp (DQ855275) was generated by PCR assay from 100.00% of
5-mg wood cross-sections that contained more than eight Bx NSSs by the PCR assay. The entire
sampling procedure took only 10 min indicating that it is suitable for the fast estimation of nematode
numbers in the wood of P. massonina as the prelimary sample selections for other more expensive
Bx-detection methods such as PCR assay
Loss of control in pattern-directed nucleation: a theoretical study
The properties of template-directed nucleation are studied close to the
transition where full nucleation control is lost and additional nucleation
occurs beyond the pre-patterned regions. First, kinetic Monte Carlo simulations
are performed to obtain information on a microscopic level. Here the
experimentally relevant cases of 1D stripe patterns and 2D square lattice
symmetry are considered. The nucleation properties in the transition region
depend in a complex way on the parameters of the system, i.e. the flux, the
surface diffusion constant, the geometric properties of the pattern and the
desorption rate. Second, the properties of the stationary concentration field
in the fully controlled case are studied to derive the remaining nucleation
probability and thus to characterize the loss of nucleation control. Using the
analytically accessible solution of a model system with purely radial symmetry,
some of the observed properties can be rationalized. A detailed comparison to
the Monte Carlo data is included
