    Experimentally obtaining the Likeness of Two Unknown Quantum States on an NMR Quantum Information Processor

    Recently quantum states discrimination has been frequently studied. In this paper we study them from the other way round, the likeness of two quantum states. The fidelity is used to describe the likeness of two quantum states. Then we presented a scheme to obtain the fidelity of two unknown qubits directly from the integral area of the spectra of the assistant qubit(spin) on an NMR Quantum Information Processor. Finally we demonstrated the scheme on a three-qubit quantum information processor. The experimental data are consistent with the theoretical expectation with an average error of 0.05, which confirms the scheme.Comment: 3 pages, 4 figure

    Synthesis and Sensing Properties of ZnO/ZnS Nanocages

    Large-scale uniform ZnO dumbbells and ZnO/ZnS hollow nanocages were successfully synthesized via a facile hydrothermal route combined with subsequent etching treatment. The nanocages were formed through preferential dissolution of the twinned (0001) plane of ZnO dumbbells. Due to their special morphology, the hollow nanocages show better sensing properties to ethanol than ZnO dumbbells. The gain in sensitivity is attributed to both the interface between ZnO and ZnS heterostructure and their hollow architecture that promotes analyte diffusion and increases the available active surface area

    Functional Diversity of p53 in Human and Wild Animals

    The common understanding of p53 function is a genome guardian, which is activated by diverse stresses stimuli and mediates DNA repair, apoptosis, and cell cycle arrest. Increasing evidence has demonstrated p53 new cellular functions involved in abundant endocrine and metabolic response for maintaining homeostasis. However, TP53 is frequently mutant in human cancers, and the mutant p53 (Mut-p53) turns to an “evil” cancer-assistant. Mut-p53-induced epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) plays a crucial role in the invasion and metastasis of endocrine carcinomas, and Mut-p53 is involved in cancer immune evasion by upregulating PD-L1 expression. Therefore, Mut-p53 is a valuable treatment target for malignant tumors. Targeting Mut-p53 in correcting sequence and conformation are increasingly concerned. Interestingly, in wild animals, p53 variations contribute to cancer resistant and high longevity. This review has discussed the multiple functions of p53 in health, diseases, and nature evolution, summarized the frequently mutant sites of p53, and the mechanisms of Mut-p53-mediated metastasis and immune evasion in endocrine cancers. We have provided a new insight for multiple roles of p53 in human and wild animals

    Vesicle Size Regulates Nanotube Formation in the Cell

    Intracellular membrane nanotube formation and its dynamics play important roles for cargo transportation and organelle biogenesis. Regarding the regulation mechanisms, while much attention has been paid on the lipid composition and its associated protein molecules, effects of the vesicle size has not been studied in the cell. Giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) are often used for in vitro membrane deformation studies, but they are much larger than most intracellular vesicles and the in vitro studies also lack physiological relevance. Here, we use lysosomes and autolysosomes, whose sizes range between 100 nm and 1 ÎĽm, as model systems to study the size effects on nanotube formation both in vivo and in vitro. Single molecule observations indicate that driven by kinesin motors, small vesicles (100-200 nm) are mainly transported along the tracks while a remarkable portion of large vesicles (500-1000 nm) form nanotubes. This size effect is further confirmed by in vitro reconstitution assays on liposomes and purified lysosomes and autolysosomes. We also apply Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) to measure the initiation force for nanotube formation. These results suggest that the size-dependence may be one of the mechanisms for cells to regulate cellular processes involving membrane-deformation, such as the timing of tubulation-mediated vesicle recycling

    Clinical benefit analysis of PD-1 inhibitors in patients with advanced, recurrent or metastatic cervical cancer: a meta-analysis and systematic review

    PurposeThis study aims to comprehensively evaluate the efficacy and safety of programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) in patients with advanced, recurrent, or metastatic cervical cancer (ARMCC) and identify the population that may benefit the most.MethodsWe conducted a search of PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Collaboration Library from their inception to September 2023. We extracted and analyzed the results related to the efficacy and safety of PD-1 in patients with ARMCC. The primary endpoints included the overall objective response rate (ORR) and adverse events (AEs), while the secondary endpoints encompassed the 1-year overall survival (OS) rate, 1-year progression-free survival (PFS) rate, as well as OS and PFS. We used a random effects model to conduct a meta-analysis on single-group rates, and the Mantel-Haenszel method was utilized to compare the ORR and the incidence of AEs.ResultsOur study included a total of 21 trials involving 2,097 patients. The ORR of the combination of PD-1 inhibitors with chemotherapy was 56.36%, the combination of PD-1 inhibitors with anti-angiogenic agents was 38.72%, the combination of PD-1 inhibitors with Cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen 4 inhibitors was 25.60%, and PD-1 inhibitor monotherapy was 15.99%. The subgroup analysis showed that the group of patients with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) exhibited a significantly higher ORR compared to the non-SCC group in patients who received PD-1 inhibitors combined with other anti-tumor drugs (Odds Ratio =2.43, P=0.002). Additionally, the group of patients with a programmed death-ligand 1 combined positive score (PD-L1 CPS) ≥1 exhibited a significantly higher ORR compared to the PD-L1 CPS <1 group in patients who received PD-1 inhibitor monotherapy (OR=4.14, P=0.02). PD-1 inhibitor monotherapy or PD-1 inhibitors combined with chemotherapy did not significantly increase the incidence of all grades of adverse events (Relative Risk=0.99, p=0.788) or the incidence of serious adverse events (RR=0.99, p=0.788) compared to chemotherapy alone.ConclusionPD-1 inhibitors demonstrate outstanding efficacy in the treatment of patients with ARMCC. Patients with SCC may benefit more from treatments including PD-1 inhibitors in combination with other anti-tumor drugs, and PD-L1 CPS ≥1 can be considered a favorable indicator of immune therapy response. Importantly, the use of PD-1 inhibitor monotherapy or PD-1 inhibitors in combination with chemotherapy did not lead to an increased incidence of AEs compared with chemotherapy alone, indicting safety during treatment.Systematic Review RegistrationPROSPERO (CRD42023457945)

    Repellent activity of essential oils extracted from five Artemisia species against Tribolium castaneum (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae)

    Artemisia genus (family Asteraceae) has been widely used as medicines and cosmetic. The chemical compositions of essential oils extracted from five Artemisia species (A. anethoides, A. giraldii, A. roxburghiana, A. rubripes and A. sacrorum) were analyzed and the repellent activities of five essential oils were investigated by testing percent repellency (PR) in petri dish against Tribolium castaneum. By GC-MS analysis, the common components of the five essential oils were eucalyptol (11.09%-50.05%), camphor (6.28%-33.10%), terpinen- 4-ol (2.46%-12.41%), β-caryophyllene (0.63%-10.68%) and germacrene D (2.28%-10.01%). 3,3,6-trimethyl-1,4-heptadien-6-ol (11.72%), 2-isopropyl-5-methyl-3-cyclohexen-1-one (24.80%) and β-farnesene (12.23%) were the characteristic compounds in essential oils of A. sacrorum, A. anethoides and A. rubripes respectively. The essential oils of five plants showed repellent activity against T. castaneum. The PR of others four essential oils were comparable with DEET expect for A. sacrorum. The results indicated that the essential oils of A. anethoides, A. giraldii, A. roxburghiana and A. rubripes had the potential to be developed as repellent for control of T. castaneum
