Vitaminer og fedtsyrer i hø og ensilage – hvad sker der vid forvejring og lagring?

For at undersøge stabiliteten af vitaminer i moderne ensilage- og høproduktion, har FØJO III projektet ECOVIT, igennem to vækstår, målt vitaminindholdet i forskellige græsmarksafgrøder ved forskellige høsttidspunkter og sletintervaller. Resultaterne viser, at det største tab af vitaminer og umættede fedtsyrer sker i forbindelse med forvejringen, mens tabet i lagringsperioden er begrænset

Any major shaking of the Earth can be recorded on a seismograph regardless of the nature of the source. Earthquakes and large explosions generate waves with similar frequency content. This fact has been used for decades to construct systems to monitor detonations of underground nuclear explosions. The quality of the monitoring system has increased significantly in recent years, and we demonstrate here that the data are useful in Danish earthquake research

A recursive kinematic random forest and alpha beta filter classifier for 2D radar tracks

In this work, we show that by using a recursive random forest together with an alpha beta filter classifier it is possible to classify radar tracks from the tracks’ kinematic data. The kinematic data is from a 2D scanning radar without Doppler or height information. We use random forest as this classifier implicit handles the uncertainty in the position measurements. As stationary targets can have an apparently high speed because of the measurement uncertainty, we use an alpha beta filter classifier to classify stationary targets from moving targets. We show an overall classification rate from simulated data at 82.6 % and from real world data 79.7 %. Additional to the confusion matrix we also show recordings of real world data

Exploring the Behavioral and Metabolic Phenotype Generated by Re-Introduction of the Ghrelin Receptor in the Ventral Tegmental Area

Ghrelin receptor (Ghr-R) signaling in neurons of the ventral tegmental area (VTA) can modulate dopaminergic function and the reward-related effects of both palatable foods and drugs of abuse. In this study, we re-introduced the Ghr-R in VTA neurons in Ghr-R knockout mice (Ghr-RVTA mice) to specifically study the importance of the constitutively active Ghr-R for VTA neuronal signaling. Our results showed that re-introduction of the Ghr-R in the VTA had no impact on body weight or food intake under basal conditions. However, during novel environment stress Ghr-RVTA mice showed increased food intake and energy expenditure compared to Ghr-R knockout mice, demonstrating the significance of Ghr-R signaling in the response to stress. Ghr-RVTA mice also showed increased cocaine-induced locomotor activity compared to Ghr-R knockout mice, highlighting the importance of ghrelin signaling for the reward-related effects of activation of VTA neurons. Overall, our data suggest that re-introduction of the Ghr-R in the mesolimbic reward system of Ghr-R knockout mice increases the level of activation induced by both cocaine and novelty stress

Age- and Sex-Associated Effects on Acute-Phase Proteins in Göttingen Minipigs

Göttingen minipigs are a useful model for diseases having an inflammatory component, and the associated use of acute-phase proteins (APP) as biomarkers of inflammation warrants establishment of their reference ranges. The objective of this study was to establish reference values for selected APP in Göttingen minipigs and to investigate the effects of age, sex, and various stimuli on these ranges. Serum concentrations of C-reactive protein (CRP), serum amyloid A (SAA), haptoglobin, pig major acute-phase protein (PMAP), albumin, and porcine α-1 acid glycoprotein (PAGP) were evaluated in 4 age groups (6, 16, 24 and 40–48 wk) of male and female Göttingen minipigs. In addition, minipigs were tested under 2 housing conditions, after acute LPS challenge, and after diet-induced obesity with and without mild diabetes. Changing the pigs to a new environment induced significant increases in CRP, PMAP, haptoglobin and PAGP and a decrease in albumin. An acute LPS stimulus increased CRP, PMAP, haptoglobin, and SAA; PAGP was unchanged and albumin decreased. Obese pigs with and without diabetes showed increases in CRP and PAGP, albumin decreased, and haptoglobin and SAA were unchanged. PMAP was increased only in obese pigs without diabetes. In conclusion, reference values for CRP, PMAP, haptoglobin, SAA, PAGP and albumin were established for male and female Göttingen minipigs of different ages. These APP were influenced by age and sex, underlining the importance of considering these factors when designing and interpreting studies including aspects of inflammation. Hygrothermal assessment of north facing, cold attic spaces under the eaves with varying single sided passive ventilation strategies and infiltration scenarios, in a cool, temperate climate

Relative humidity and temperature were measured in cold attic spaces under the eaves with diffusion-open roofing underlay to investigate different ventilation strategies, the influence of infiltration, and exterior insulated roofing underlay. The project was carried out as a full-scale experimental setup in the cool, temperate climate in Lyngby, Denmark. The objective was to test if the best practice recommendations concerning design of the cold attic space will prevent damaging moisture levels in the attics. Measurements do however indicate that complying with recommendations will not ensure satisfactory moisture levels in the attic spaces. A comparison of the passive ventilation strategies in combination with varying infiltration rates, for attic spaces fitted with diffusion-open roofing underlay, indicate that attic ventilation increases moisture levels.
