Missional Missions
This is a case study about Onnuri Community Church (OCC), one of the megachurches based in Seoul. Composed for presentation at the June 2017 annual meeting of the American Society of Missiology, the study embraces the importance of interaction between mission practice and missiological scholarship. As such, this study examines ongoing OCC efforts to integrate its extensive mission programs with missiological understandings, especially understandings of missional church ministry. OCC has recently entered both its fourth decade of history and its second generation of leadership. During this crucial transitional period, how OCC’s mission practices and missiological understandings continue to interface will prove to be vital for its ongoing gospel ministries, both in the Seoul area and among peoples in many other parts of the world.https://place.asburyseminary.edu/firstfruitspapers/1147/thumbnail.jp
Perspectives on the Missiological Legacy of Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation
Upon the occasion of the 500th anniversary Martin Luther’s publication of his 95 theses, this composite article brings together five perspectives on the missiological legacy of the reformer and the subsequent Protestant Reformation. The blend of voices makes clear that Luther and the subsequent Protestant Reformation do not have a simple missiological legacy but rather various legacies: theological, ecclesiological, political, and practical; some of which co-exist, and even collide, in the same ecclesiastical community. The scandalous legacy of a splintered and splintering church remains. Yet, demonstrations of mutual recognition, reciprocal respect, and genuine fellowship can be found in certain missiological circles
Reflecting on and Equipping for Christian Mission
The book includes both scholarly and practical input on various aspects of the topic and from different parts of the world. There is, as far as we know, no other conceptual treatment of this issue from such a broad ecumenical perspective.https://scholar.csl.edu/edinburghcentenary/1020/thumbnail.jp
How native state topology affects the folding of Dihydrofolate Reductase and Interleukin-1beta
The overall structure of the transition state and intermediate ensembles
experimentally observed for Dihydrofolate Reductase and Interleukin-1beta can
be obtained utilizing simplified models which have almost no energetic
frustration. The predictive power of these models suggest that, even for these
very large proteins with completely different folding mechanisms and functions,
real protein sequences are sufficiently well designed and much of the
structural heterogeneity observed in the intermediates and the transition state
ensembles is determined by topological effects.Comment: Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, in press (11 pages, 4 color PS figures)

Individual MicroRNAs (miRNAs) Display Distinct mRNA Targeting Rules
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) guide Argonaute (AGO)-containing microribonucleoprotein (miRNP) complexes to target mRNAs.It has been assumed that miRNAs behave similarly to each other with regard to mRNA target recognition. The usual assumptions, which are based on prior studies, are that miRNAs target preferentially sequences in the 3\u27UTR of mRNAs,guided by the 5\u27 seed portion of the miRNAs. Here we isolated AGO- and miRNA-containing miRNPs from human H4 tumor cells by co-immunoprecipitation (co-IP) with anti-AGO antibody. Cells were transfected with miR-107, miR-124,miR-128, miR-320, or a negative control miRNA. Co-IPed RNAs were subjected to downstream high-density Affymetrix Human Gene 1.0 ST microarray analyses using an assay we validated previously-a RIP-Chip experimental design. RIP-Chip data provided a list of mRNAs recruited into the AGO-miRNP in correlation to each miRNA. These experimentally identified miRNA targets were analyzed for complementary six nucleotide seed sequences within the transfected miRNAs. We found that miR-124 targets tended to have sequences in the 3\u27UTR that would be recognized by the 5\u27 seed of miR-124, as described in previous studies. By contrast, miR-107 targets tended to have \u27seed\u27 sequences in the mRNA open reading frame, but not the 3\u27 UTR. Further, mRNA targets of miR-128 and miR-320 are less enriched for 6-mer seed sequences in comparison to miR-107 and miR-124. In sum, our data support the importance of the 5\u27 seed in determining binding characteristics for some miRNAs; however, the binding rules are complex, and individual miRNAs can have distinct sequence determinants that lead to mRNA targeting
Fair Value Hierarchy Measures: Post-Implementation Evidence on IFRS 7
Using a balance sheet valuation model, this study examines if information on the fair value hierarchy of on-balance sheet financial assets and financial liabilities are incorporated in the market’s valuation of companies’ equities in Singapore. The results of the study show significant associations between as-reported Level 1 and Level 2 fair value measures of financial assets and market values. However, the results are not significant for Level 3 fair value measures of financial assets and each of the three levels of fair value measures of financial liabilities. The results also show that returns are more positively associated with as-reported gains and losses from Level 1 and Level 2 fair value measures than those from Level 3 fair value measures. Overall, the evidence suggests that information on the fair value hierarchy of IFRS 7 Financial Instruments: Disclosures are used by market participants in their pricing decisions. The market however appears to place greater weights on fair value changes taken to the income statement than those taken to OCI, notwithstanding the level of the fair value measure. While the fixation with income statement measures remains a puzzle, the results are consistent with prior studies that show that investors largely ignore OCI in their pricing of shares
