Clinical Pathway Evaluation for Left and Sigmoid Colectomy in Abdominal Surgery

At the end of 2008, a new left colon clinical pathway was implemented in our hospital and set up by a multidisciplinary team, monitored by a clinical pathway coordinator. Our aim was to evaluate the quality of left and sigmoid colectomy management, to simplify the clinical pathway and to assess its impact on the patient, the medical and nursing staffs. A sample of 290 patients with benign or malignant disease requiring a laparoscopic of laparotomy left colon resection (mainly sigmoid) was included in this clinical pathway during the years 2009–2017. Our analysis focused particularly on the compliance with the protocol, the pain felt, the suture leak rate, the hospital stay, the re-hospitalization rate and redo surgery within 30 days. Our work leads to the conclusion that the introduction of a clinical pathway, when it is well prepared and brings together all the implicated persons with the same goal, is feasible with convincing results. These are directly beneficial to the patient and to the quality of its management

The outcome of patients with advanced germ cell tumor depends on the optimal clinical management. Residual masses are frequent, and their histology can be different than the initial one (i.e., only residual mature teratoma cells or necrosis-fibrosis). Therefore a second surgery on residual masses with curative intent, may be important to optimalize the treatment and follow up

Análisis de ADN Mitocondrial en restos de hijo putativo de Luis XVI, Rey de Francia y María Antonieta

Carl Wilhelm Naundorff fue sepultado en 1845 en Delft como Luis Charles, Duque de Normandía, “Luis XVII”. Sin embargo, el hijo de Luis XVI y María Antonieta-Luis XVII- falleció oficialmente en el templo de París en 1795. Con el fin de determinar la identidad de Naundorff, se comparó las secuencias de las ondas del ADNmitocondrial (ADNmt) de sus restos con las secuencias obtenidas a partir del cabello de dos hermanas de María Antonieta, de la misma María Antonieta, y con las secuencias obtenidas de las muestras del ADN de dos parientes maternos vivos. La secuencia del ADNmt de una muestra de hueso de Naundorff mostró dos diferencias en los nucleótidos en cuanto a la secuencia del de las tres hermanas y cuatro diferencias en las secuencias de los parientes maternos vivos basado en esta evidencia resulta muy remoto que Naundorff sea el hijo de María Antonieta

Kristien Ceyssens (Het Domein Bokrijk) Binnen mijn stage bedrijf heb ik enkele voorstellen gekregen over welke projecten ik zou willen behandelen. Hierbij heb ik gekozen voor het huisje VTB Kortessem dat gelegen is in Domein Bokrijk. Dit wordt binnenkort gerestaureerd in zijn geheel. Gedurende mijn stage heb ik een totaalopmeting gedaan van dit huisje en dit op plan gebracht. Verder heb ik nog een uitvoeringsvoorstel opgemaakt aan de hand van een fotoreportage. Hieraan heb ik enkele probleemstellingen en onderzoeksvragen gelinkt om mijn bachelorproef tot een technisch diepgaand dossier met nuttig naslagwerk te maken zodat ik tegelijk voor mezelf en ook voor het bedrijf een nuttig werk/dossier afhandel. Dit onderwerp is dan ook een zeer interessant gegeven naar restauratie en renovatie toe. De EPB-normen stellen eisen op het vlak van thermische isolatie, energieprestatie en binnenklimaat. Deze norm heeft als doel om het energieverbruik in woningen te verlagen. Dit onderzoek is gebeurd op een niet-bewoonbare woning in Domein Bokrijk waarvan ik zelf de woning in kaart heb gebracht omdat er geen plannen van waren

Analysis of Scalable Data Streams for Representations in Networked Virtual Environments

Analyzing the data generated by networked applications is a topic of great interest to a number of parties, such as ISPs and Network Equipment Manufacturers. However, it is becoming an increasingly difficult task to accomplish, mainly due to the use of undisclosed protocols. This is especially true when considering applications that stream content in real-time from central servers. There is a clear need for more detailed knowledge of the network behavior of these techniques. In this poster, we analyze the data streams related to 3D objects that are requested by the clients of our own networked virtual environment framework. We employ several LoD optimizations such as the use of image based representations and reduced complexity geometrical models. Using these optimizations, we try to deliver an acceptable visual representation of the virtual world as quickly as possible to a user in an environment that is in its entirety streamed in real-time from a server. Since these techniques are becoming integrated into commercial applications the conclusions drawn are widely applicable. 1
