Simultaneous dual-frequency radio observations of S5 0716+714: A search for intraday variability with the Korean VLBI Network
This study aims to search for the existence of intraday variability (IDV) of
BL Lac object S5 0716+714 at high radio frequencies for which the interstellar
scintillation effect is not significant. Using the 21-meter radio telescope of
the Korean VLBI Network (KVN), we present results of multi-epoch simultaneous
dual-frequency radio observations. Single-dish observations of S5 0716+714 were
simultaneously conducted at 21.7 GHz (K-band) and 42.4 GHz (Q-band), with a
high cadence of 30-60 minute intervals.We observed four epochs between December
2009 and June 2010. Over the whole set of observation epochs, S5 0716+714
showed significant inter-month variations in flux density at both the K- and
Q-bands, with modulation indices of approximately 19% for the K-band and
approximately 36% for the Q-band. In all epochs, no clear intraday variability
was detected at either frequency. The source shows monotonic flux density
increase in epochs 1 and 3 and monotonic flux density decrease in epochs 2 and
4. In the flux density increasing phases, the flux densities at the Q-band
increase more rapidly. In the decreasing phase, no significant flux density
difference is seen at the two frequencies. The situation could be different
close to flux density peaks that we did not witness in our observations. We
find an inverted spectrum with mean spectral indices of -0.57+-0.13 in epoch 1
and -0.15+-0.11 in epoch 3. On the other hand, we find relatively steep indices
of +0.24+-0.14 and +0.17+-0.18 in epochs 2 and 4, respectively. We conclude
that the frequency dependence of the variability and the change of the spectral
index are caused by source-intrinsic effects rather than by any extrinsic

Mitochondrial DNA Copy Number in Peripheral Blood Is Independently Associated with Visceral Fat Accumulation in Healthy Young Adults
Aims. Visceral obesity is associated with an increased risk of cardiometabolic diseases and it is important to identify the underlying mechanisms. There is growing evidence that mitochondrial dysfunction is associated with metabolic disturbances related to visceral obesity. In addition, maintaining mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) copy number is important for preserving mitochondrial function. Therefore, we investigated the relationship between mtDNA copy number and visceral fat in healthy young adults. Methods. A total of 94 healthy young subjects were studied. Biomarkers of metabolic risk factors were assessed along with body composition by computed tomography. mtDNA copy number was measured in peripheral leukocytes using real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods. Results. The mtDNA copy number correlated with BMI (r=-0.22, P=0.04), waist circumference (r=-0.23, P=0.03), visceral fat area (r=-0.28, P=-0.01), HDL-cholesterol levels (r=0.25, P=0.02), and hs-CRP (r=0.32, P=0.02) after adjusting for age and sex. Both stepwise and nonstepwise multiple regression analyses confirmed that visceral fat area was independently associated with mtDNA copy number (β=-0.33, P<0.01, β=0.32, and P=0.03, resp.). Conclusions. An independent association between mtDNA content and visceral adiposity was identified. These data suggest that mtDNA copy number is a potential predictive marker for metabolic disturbances. Further studies are required to understand the causality and clinical significance of our findings
Ejection of Double knots from the radio core of PKS 1510--089 during the strong gamma-ray flares in 2015
PKS 1510--089 is a bright and active -ray source that showed strong
and complex -ray flares in mid-2015 during which the Major Atmospheric
Gamma Imaging Cherenkov telescopes detected variable very high energy (VHE;
photon energies 100 GeV) emission. We present long-term multi-frequency
radio, optical, and -ray light curves of PKS 1510--089 from 2013 to
2018, and results of an analysis of the jet kinematics and linear polarization
using 43 GHz Very Long Baseline Array data observed between late 2015 and
mid-2017. We find that a strong radio flare trails the -ray flares in
2015, showing an optically thick spectrum at the beginning and becoming
optically thin over time. Two laterally separated knots of emission are
observed to emerge from the radio core nearly simultaneously during the
-ray flares. We detect an edge-brightened linear polarization near the
core in the active jet state in 2016, similar to the quiescent jet state in
2008--2013. These observations indicate that the -ray flares may
originate from compression of the knots by a standing shock in the core and the
jet might consist of multiple complex layers showing time-dependent behavior,

A Multilevel Study Of Supportive Leadership And Individual Work Outcomes: The Mediating Roles Of Team Cooperation, Job Satisfaction, And Team Commitment
Due to increasing empowerment in work teams, team leaders’ supportive role in helping team members perform their tasks is deemed important. The present study aimed at exploring the multilevel dynamics involving team leaders’ supportive leadership and individual work outcomes. Longitudinal survey data were collected from 536 employees in 69 teams of a large engineering company located in South Korea. The results of multilevel structural equation modeling showed that individuals’ perceptions of supportive leadership were positively related to their subsequent task performance, and that this relationship was mediated by team commitment. The relationship between individual-level perceptions of supportive leadership and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) was mediated by job satisfaction and team commitment. On the other hand, team cooperation mediated the relationship between team-level perceptions of supportive leadership and OCB. These findings provide meaningful insights into multilevel mediation processes involving different levels of supportive leadership perceptions
Practical Controller Design of Three-Phase Dual Active Bridge Converter for Low Voltage DC Distribution System
In a low voltage DC (LVDC) distribution system, isolated bi-directional DC-DC converters are key devices to control power flows. A three-phase dual-active-bridge (3P-DAB) converter is one of the suitable candidates due to inherent soft-switching capability, low conduction loss, and high-power density. However, the 3P-DAB converter requires a well-designed controller due to the influence of the equivalent series resistance (ESR) of an output filter capacitor, degrading the performance of the 3P-DAB converter in terms of high-frequency noise. Unfortunately, there is little research that considers the practical design methodology of the 3P-DAB converter's controller because of its complexity. In this paper, the influence of the ESR on the 3P-DAB converter is presented. Additionally, the generalized average small-signal model (SSM) of the 3P-DAB converter including the ESR of the capacitive output filter is presented. Based on this model, an extended small-signal model and appropriate controller design guide, and performance comparison are presented based on the frequency domain analysis. Finally, experimental results verify the validity of the proposed controller using a 25 kW prototype 3P-DAB converter
Seroprevalence of Hepatitis A and E Viruses Based on the Third Korea National Health and Nutrition Survey in Korea
AbstractObjectivesThe purpose of this study was to investigate the seroprevalence of hepatitis A virus (HAV) and hepatitis E virus (HEV) in Korea during 2005.MethodsStudy subjects were selected from across Korea using a stratified multistage probability sampling design, and HAV and HEV seroprevalence was compared on the basis of sex, age, and residency. A total of 497 rural and urban people aged 10–99 years of age (mean ± SD age = 28.87 ± 17.63 years) were selected by two-stage cluster sampling and tested serologically for anti-HAV and anti-HEV IgG using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.ResultsAmong this population, the overall seroprevalence of HAV was 63.80% (55.21% aged in their 20s and 95.92% in their 30s, p < 0.01) and that of HEV was 9.40% (5.21% aged in their 20s and 7.14% in their 30s, p < 0.01). Seroprevalence also varied according to area of residence. HEV prevalence in rural areas was higher than that of urban regions based on the anti-HEV antibody, odds ratio 3.22 (95% confidence interval: 1.46–7.10, p < 0.01). There were no significant differences between male and female against anti-HAV/HEV antibodies.ConclusionOur study suggested that the seropositive rates of HAV and HEV might be related to age and environmental conditions
