Rapidly growing order-and-pay apps, third-party online ordering and delivery services make fine dining from home easier than ever and, in some cases, "dining out" a thing of the past. App-only services that deliver food from different restaurants food trucks and joints have transformed the way food delivery was once viewed and interpreted (Economics Week). There was 40 percent growth in online food delivery market in India at Rs350 crore during 2014. It accounted for 17 percent of the online services market, as per the data of Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI).This has resulted in massive inflow of investments into online food delivery services.( India Business Insight)The sudden burst and evolvement of food delivered online in the last 5 years in Bangalore has been able to satiate the hunger pangs, offer myriad cuisines to the discreet noveau foodies, and to some, food door delivered. Booming online ordering and home delivery services are helping to drive the growth of India’s restaurant industry. This primary source study provides information of young entrepreneurs venturing in to the business of online food aggregation in the breakfast landscape in Bangalore. But the idea of tapping the breakfast market is still nascent and the paper narrates how this can be a first move advantage for online food aggregation. The study creates a landscape concept to capitalize on the breakfast online delivery market, hitherto untapped in south India. The Indian retail market has grown at a double-digit compound annual growth rate over the last five years and was worth an estimated $554bn in 2011 and is expected to grow further. The Indian economy grew throughout the global downturn, with increasing consumer purchasing power bolstering the retail sector. Retailing is now the second highest contributor to India’s gross domestic product. (PR Newswire, New York, 2012)."Facebook, Twitter and more have become de rigueur rather than optional for centre marketers,"(Henry,Alison). “Centre owners and managers are also placing renewed emphasis on enhancing the 'experience' of in a bricks and-mortar environment, through targeted promotional events to engage consumers and offer them additional incentives to shop in-mall vs online."The forum mall in Bangalore presents a unique retail pattern site in Bangalore that helps build the brand identity of the mall for teenagers, as they are the ones who like the format. This study explores the relationship between teenager’s identity and their perception towards Forum Mall as a blend of lifestyle mall retailing and a patronage pattern. A store intercept survey approach was used to collect data from 120 teenagers mostly college and university students. Findings indicated that teenager’s identity as a mall enthusiast and/or a habitual mall visitor had little impact on their perceptions about the importance of selected store atmospherics in the decision to shop at Forum mall, Bangalore but did influence some of their intended patronage behaviors towards the mall

Issues and Opportunities of Niche Tourism Markets- Understanding South India Wine Tourism

    Get PDF
Wine tourism is one of the best ways to take the tourist for an offbeat experience and it also helps in understanding the local culture and cuisine. Wine tourism is now recognized as an important aspect of destination promotion all across the globe. It is a niche type of tourism, whose principal feature is given by the wine and the wine-production places and wine consumers. Wine tourism can be defined as "visitation to vineyards, wineries, wine festivals and wine shows for which grape wine tasting and/or experiencing the attributes of a grape wine region are the prime motivating factors for visitors (Hall and Macionis)". This definition is apt because it encompasses the various destinations most frequently sought by wine tourists and reinforces the fact that there are different reasons tourists go to a particular destination. Today, wine tourism is acknowledged as a growing area of special-interest tourism throughout the world and it is an increasingly important tourism component of for many wine producing states. With its wide range of advantages, including foreign-exchange earnings, the creation of both full- and part-time jobs, and the generation of secondary economic activity, wine tourism is emerging as a lucrative industry sector. The ability to generate substantial long-term wealth and sustain steady tourism growth for these regions also helps in understanding the changing consumer dynamics. In the last 10 years the growth of wine Industry, particularly in India has led to a spurt in wineries and improved extended tourist stay and spending power. In the last five years wine tourism has become a key market driver for South Indian cities like Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad resulting in mushrooming new wine industries, wine festivals, wine lounges and other wine related activities. With Government aim at increasing grape cultivation, and encouraging more wineries, and wine-production units declared as food processing industry one can expect concessions to boost the sector. Furthermore relaxing the license-issuing procedure, there has been a substantial increase in winery owners in these cities. This sudden gain of optimism among the industry, government and consumers in these cities has resulted in critical developmental issues of sustainability and long term profitability. The study undertakes a review of existing activities, deals with issues related to wine tourism. The aim is to analyze whether government promoted wine festivals have had an impact on the tourism sector.  In addition the research will also detail if wine dinners and wine activations carried by the companies have resulted in heightened tourist inflow and improved destination awareness. The study identifies challenges and makes prospective suggestions with respect to an action plan that will develop urban wine tourism in metro cities of south India. Background: Biliary tract cancers (BTCs) are a heterogeneous group of malignancies with a dismal prognosis. Gemcitabine-based regimens are the standard of care in advanced disease, but median overall survival (OS) is roughly 12 months. The addition of albumin-bound paclitaxel to gemcitabine and cisplatin (GAP) demonstrated promising efficacy in a 60 patient, single-arm phase II study (Shroff et al, JAMA Oncol 2019), with observed median OS of 19.2 months. Methods: SWOG 1815 is a randomized, open-label, phase III trial comparing GAP to gemcitabine/cisplatin (GC). The study included newly diagnosed advanced BTC patients (pts), randomized 2:1 to GAP vs. GC. GAP included gemcitabine at 800 mg/m2, cisplatin at 25 mg/m2 and albumin-bound paclitaxel at 100 mg/m2 on days 1 and 8 of a 21-day cycle. GC included standard dosing of gemcitabine at 1000 mg/m2 and cisplatin at 25 mg/m2 on days 1 and 8 of a 21-day cycle. Pts were treated until progression. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS) with a target hazard ratio of 0.7 with 90% power and a 1-sided alpha of 0.025; randomization was stratified by disease site (intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma [CCA] vs gallbladder adenocarcinoma [GBC] vs extrahepatic CCA), disease stage (locally advanced vs metastatic), and Zubrod PS 0 vs 1. Results: Of 441 eligible pts randomized, 55% were female. 67% of patients had intrahepatic CCA, 16% had GBC and 17% had extrahepatic CCA. Most pts had metastases (73%). Median OS with GAP vs. GC was 14 vs. 12.7 mo respectively (HR 0.93, 95% CI 0.74-1.19, p=0.58), ORR (confirmed and unconfirmed) 34% vs25% (p=0.11) and median PFS 8.2 vs 6.4 mo (HR 0.92, 95% CI 0.72-1.16, p=0.47), respectively. Grade 3 and 4 treatment related adverse events (TRAEs) in ≥10% of pts for GAP and GC were anemia, neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia. GAP had more ≥ grade 3 hematologic AEs compared to the GC arm (60% vs. 45%, p=0.003). Discontinuation due to toxicity was at 24% vs 19% (p=0.26) with GAP vs GC. In exploratory subset analyses, GAP vs GC improved OS in pts with locally advanced disease (medians 19.2 vs 13.7 mo; HR 0.67, 95% CI 0.42- 1.06, p=0.09) and in GBC pts (medians 17.0 vs 9.3 mo; HR 0.74, 95% CI 0.41-1.35, p=0.33). ORR for GAP vs GC in GBC was 50% vs 24% (p=0.09) and for locally advanced disease 28 vs 21% p=0.74. Conclusions: SWOG 1815 did not result in a statistically significant improvement in median OS with GAP vs. GC. The GAP regimen had higher rates of TRAEs without a statistically significant difference in discontinuation rates. Pts with locally advanced disease and GBC may benefit from the use of GAP. Further analyses are ongoing to understand potential benefit of GAP in subsets of BTC pts. This is the author accepted manuscript. The final version is available from Elsevier via the DOI in this recordData availability: All data are available upon request. The sequence variants in WNK3 (NM_004656.3) reported in the paper have been deposited in ClinVar database. Their respective accession numbers (SCV002107163 to SCV002107168) are indicated in Tables 1 and S1.Purpose WNK3 kinase (PRKWNK3) has been implicated in the development and function of the brain via its regulation of the cation-chloride cotransporters, but the role of WNK3 in human development is unknown. Method We ascertained exome or genome sequences of individuals with rare familial or sporadic forms of intellectual disability (ID). Results We identified a total of 6 different maternally-inherited, hemizygous, 3 loss-of-function or 3 pathogenic missense variants (p.Pro204Arg, p.Leu300Ser, p.Glu607Val) in WNK3 in 14 male individuals from 6 unrelated families. Affected individuals had identifier with variable presence of epilepsy and structural brain defects. WNK3 variants cosegregated with the disease in 3 different families with multiple affected individuals. This included 1 large family previously diagnosed with X-linked Prieto syndrome. WNK3 pathogenic missense variants localize to the catalytic domain and impede the inhibitory phosphorylation of the neuronal-specific chloride cotransporter KCC2 at threonine 1007, a site critically regulated during the development of synaptic inhibition. Conclusion Pathogenic WNK3 variants cause a rare form of human X-linked identifier with variable epilepsy and structural brain abnormalities and implicate impaired phospho-regulation of KCC2 as a pathogenic mechanism.Estonian Research CouncilNational Natural Science Foundation of ChinaRoyal SocietySouth Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (SCDDSN)National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS

Metallurgical Investigation of HSLA Steel Subjected to Underwater Explosion

    No full text
The metallurgical behaviour of HSLA steel subjected to underwater explosion is of prime importance because of its structural applications in underwater vehicles. HSLA steel plates 300 Ă— 250 Ă— 4 mm were subjected to single and repetitive shock loadings and the point of rupture was identified. Test plates exhibited mode-I (large ductile deformation) and mode-II (tensile tearing) macroscopic failures. Electron micrographic and fractographic examination showed that the initiation of fracture was due to adiabatic shearing and the microscopic mode of failure was ductile. Plates subjected to single shock showed an increase in residual hardness and at the point of rupture it was approximately one-third higher than the initial residual hardness
