    An uncommon variant of rare type of muscular dystrophy

    The muscular dystrophies are a group of hereditary degenerative diseases characterised by progressive myopathy. Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy (EDMD) is a rare genetically heterogenous type of muscular dystrophy characterized by early contractures (especially in the neck, elbows and ankles), slowly progressing muscle weakness more prominent in humeroperoneal region, onset in early childhood and cardiac problems. Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy is commonly inherited in an X linked recessive pattern and rarely autosomal dominant inheritance or autosomal recessive fashion.     Adapting the HHL algorithm to (non-unitary) quantum many-body theory

    Rapid progress in developing near- and long-term quantum algorithms for quantum chemistry has provided us with an impetus to move beyond traditional approaches and explore new ways to apply quantum computing to electronic structure calculations. In this work, we identify the connection between quantum many-body theory and a quantum linear solver, and implement the Harrow-Hassidim-Lloyd (HHL) algorithm to make precise predictions of correlation energies for light molecular systems via the (non-unitary) linearised coupled cluster theory. We alter the HHL algorithm to integrate two novel aspects- (a) we prescribe a novel scaling approach that allows one to scale any arbitrary symmetric positive definite matrix A, to solve for Ax = b and achieve x with reasonable precision, all the while without having to compute the eigenvalues of A, and (b) we devise techniques that reduce the depth of the overall circuit. In this context, we introduce the following variants of HHL for different eras of quantum computing- AdaptHHLite in its appropriate forms for noisy intermediate scale quantum (NISQ), late-NISQ, and the early fault-tolerant eras, as well as AdaptHHL for the fault-tolerant quantum computing era. We demonstrate the ability of the NISQ variant of AdaptHHLite to capture correlation energy precisely, while simultaneously being resource-lean, using simulation as well as the 11-qubit IonQ quantum hardware

    Improvement in diagnosis of breast tumour using ultrasound elastography and echography: A phantom based analysis

    Due to the isoechoic nature of lesions and their poor contrast with neighbouring tissue, a lesion may remain undetected in ultrasound B mode imaging for cancerous tissue. Imaging of the elastic properties of tissue provides new information which is collateral to tissue pathology. This study provides quantitative analysis of improvements in tumour diagnosis when the ultrasound B mode imaging is combined with elastography. Quantification was based on the textural parameters measured from the ultrasound B mode image and strain measured from the elastogram. The ability of a parameter to discriminate between diseased cases and normal cases was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis.     Cerebral gene expression in response to single or combined gestational exposure to methylmercury and selenium through the maternal diet

    Controversy remains regarding the safety of consuming certain types of seafood, particularly during pregnancy. While seafood is rich in vital nutrients, it may also be an important source of environmental contaminants such as methylmercury (MeHg). Selenium (Se) is one essential element present in seafood, hypothesised to ameliorate MeHg toxicity. The aim of the present study was to ascertain the impact of Se on MeHg-induced cerebral gene expression in a mammalian model. Microarray analysis was performed on brain tissue from 15-day-old mice that had been exposed to MeHg throughout development via the maternal diet. The results from the microarray analysis were validated using qPCR. The exposure groups included: MeHg alone (2.6 mg kg−1), Se alone (1.3 mg kg−1), and MeHg + Se. MeHg was presented in a cysteinate form, and Se as Se–methionine, one of the elemental species occurring naturally in seafood. Eight genes responded to Se exposure alone, five were specific to MeHg, and 63 were regulated under the concurrent exposure of MeHg and Se. Significantly enriched functional classes relating to the immune system and cell adhesion were identified, highlighting potential ameliorating mechanisms of Se on MeHg toxicity. Key developmental genes, such as Wnt3 and Sparcl1, were also identified as putative ameliorative targets. This study, utilising environmentally realistic forms of toxicants, delivered through the natural route of exposure, in association with the power of transcriptomics, highlights significant novel information regarding putative pathways of selenium and MeHg interaction in the mammalian brain

    Polygenic prediction of educational attainment within and between families from genome-wide association analyses in 3 million individuals

    We conduct a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of educational attainment (EA) in a sample of ~3 million individuals and identify 3,952 approximately uncorrelated genome-wide-significant single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). A genome-wide polygenic predictor, or polygenic index (PGI), explains 12-16% of EA variance and contributes to risk prediction for ten diseases. Direct effects (i.e., controlling for parental PGIs) explain roughly half the PGI's magnitude of association with EA and other phenotypes. The correlation between mate-pair PGIs is far too large to be consistent with phenotypic assortment alone, implying additional assortment on PGI-associated factors. In an additional GWAS of dominance deviations from the additive model, we identify no genome-wide-significant SNPs, and a separate X-chromosome additive GWAS identifies 57

    A Transformerless Multiinput Multioutput DC-DC Boost Converter Using Fuzzy Logic Controller for Electric Vehicle Applications

    ABSTRACT: A new fuzzy controlled transformerless multiinput multioutput dc-dc boost converter is proposed in this paper. This converter is applicable in hybridizing alternative energy sources in electric vehicles.In fact, by hybridization of energy sources, advantages of different sources are achievable. In this converter, the loads power can be flexibly distributed between input sources. The proposed converter has two outputs with different voltage levels which makes it suitable for interfacing to multilevel inverters and also for electric vehicles. The proposed converter has just one inductor.Depending on charging and discharging states of the energy storage system (ESS), two different power operation modes are defined for the converter.In this paper battery discharging mode is evaluated by using fuzzy logic control which is more efficient than conventional controllers. I.INTRODUCTION It has been well recognized that hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) are much more efficient and cleaner than the vehicles powered by gasoline and diesel engine alone.The EVs can be used for environmentally friendly transportation application with the usage of clean and renewable energy sources such as fuel cell etc.Due to the slow power transfer rate and increased cost of fuel cell,they are used along with batteries and supercapacitors.To provide a specific voltage level for load and to control power flow between input sources,dc-dc converter is needed.In hybrid power systems ,multiinput dc-dc converters have been used. In this paper, a new multiinput multioutput nonisolated converter based on combination of a multiinput and a multioutput converter using fuzzy logic control is proposed. The proposed converter compared to similar cases has less number of elements. This converter can control power flow between sources with each other and load. Also, proposed converter has several outputs that each one can have different voltage level.The terminal output voltage is controlled by using fuzzy logic controller which performs better than conventional controllers. II.LITERATURE SURVEY To address the issues of depletion of fossil fuels, rising gasoline prices, over-dependence on foreign energy, and growing greenhouse gas emissions, vehicle manufacturers have increasingly found electric vehicles as a solution. However, it implements a different switching law for the modulator that extends the range of continuous conduction mode of operation. The switching principle of the modulator is predictive, as the actual current equals the reference current at the end of each switching period. The no. of reset integrators required in this modulator for generation of the carrier waveform is two. The steady-state stability analysis of the boost rectifier with the proposed predictive switching modulator (PSM) is presented in this paper. A low-frequency small-signal model of the boost rectifier switched by the PSM is developed for evaluation of the control transfer function. Experimental results on a 400-W boost rectifier prototype are presented

    Not AvailableThe Observations during Kharif 2013 on jasmine Jasminum sambac and J. multiflorum half acre plots each at Hessaraghatta, Bengaluru North Taluk, Bengaluru Urban District is reported multiflorum plants probed, C. bistrialis was recorded on 24 plants, C. semirugata on 9 and A.fulica on one plant. Of the seven J. sambac plants counted seven C. semirugata R. punctata were counted, the highest number of the former was 3 and the latter 2 per plant. The aggregation of gastropods was high in J. multiflorum compared to this was reflected in the foliar damage of 30% in the former and up to 5% in the latter.Not Availabl
