    A Contemporary Approach to Managing Social Responsibility in Relation to Employees as Perceived in Academic Papers

    Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) plays a significant role in Human Resource Management (HRM), especially when it comes to stipulating desired employee performance or behaviour, such as work performance, job satisfaction, organizational commitment or retention. However, the academic literature offers very fragmented or partial answers to questions addressing this issue, as many scholars focus exclusively on e.g. one-country or one-industry based sample only. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to summarize the current "state-of-the-art" trends in academic literature and thereafter, based on the findings, propose a broader contemporary conceptual approach to managing CSR in relation to employees. The results suggest a positive causal relationship between CSR and desirable employee behaviour, with job satisfaction often playing the function of a mediator. The findings also suggest that adding CSR to HRM practices could improve employees' work attitudes.     Reporting Verbs and Related Syntactic Choices in Students' Theses: A Study of Two Disciplines

    Adopting Hyland's (2002) framework of reporting words (RVs), the paper investigates the use of RVs in Master's theses written in English by students of two disciplines, Economics and Management and Natural Resources. The data were drawn from two sub-corpora, each consisting of 82 Literature Reviews, where other authors' research is summarised and commented on. Besides determining the most frequent communicative functions, in this paper, the RVs are further analysed in terms of the verb tense, voice, and subject-agent. The findings revealed significant differences between the two disciplines. In the former, most RVs were in the present active with named-author as the subject, conveying a neutral attitude towards the reported message and neutrally summarising previous research outcomes. Most RVs were in the past tense in the latter, reporting on past research procedures or outcomes. The findings reveal infrequent use of evaluative or critical verbs. Each discipline's predominant choice may suggest writers' lower ability to highlight the cited sources' direct relevance to their research. The study hopes to contribute to the efficacy of teaching English for Academic Purposes to non-native speakers. It has pedagogical implications for academic writing in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses at non-philological tertiary education institutions

    Citation practices in EFL academic writing: The use of reporting verbs in Master’s thesis literature reviews

    Reporting belongs among key features of academic writing, and reporting verbs (RVs) are probably the most explicit way of attributing the content to other sources.  For EFL learners, the correct use of RVs is often challenging. While most EFL studies focus on the functions of citation as used by novice researchers in research articles, Ph.D. theses, or university writing, fewer works are concerned with Master's theses, often students' first encounter with original scientific and academic writing. This study explores the use of RVs in EFL learners' Master's theses. Besides investigating the types and functions of RVs, the choices of the verb tense, voice, and the subject-agent in the reporting structures are explored. The research was performed on 82 Master's thesis Literature Reviews written in English by Czech economics and management students. To determine the types and functions of RVs, the study adopts Hyland's (1999, 2002) framework. First, the frequencies of RVs occurrence are counted, and RVs are discussed in terms of process categories and evaluative functions. Second, the choices of the verb tense, voice, and the subject-agent in the reporting structures are analysed. The findings show a predominant use of RVs conveying a neutral attitude towards the reported content and neutrally summarizing the previous research in the present simple active tense with named-author as the subject. Although the results confirm the trend common for novice researchers and soft discipline writers, we believe that the enhancement of appropriate use of RVs in academic writing courses is necessary. The findings might offer insights applicable to EFL contexts and contribute to the body of existing research on the citation

    COMPARATIVE STUDY OF ONGOING ADULT LEARNING IN PUBLIC SERVICES AND NON-PROFIT SECTOR (CASE STUDY)

    The aim of this paper is to compare the diversity of lifelong learning in public administration and non-profit sector and determine whether after 2009 there have been financial changes in the field of lifelong education of economically active population in selected institutions. Introduction presents a theoretical definition of life-long learning specifics and the comparison of life-long learning in public administration and non-profit sector according to different thematic classifications where their differences are significant. It concerns a general view of life-long learning in comparative areas, its significance, differences in legislation, reasons of motivation and, on the contrary, barriers. Practical part of the paper focuses on a sector quantitative and qualitative research carried out within a wider field survey. Conclusion of the paper demonstrates by the method of comparison differences in the need for education within public administration institutions and non-profit organizations

    IPMA STANDARD ELEMENTS AND FEEDBACK IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT TEACHING

    The paper proposes the concept of project management teaching including the International Project Management Association (IPMA) standard. The concept of teaching is theoretical and derives from the notion of competence, which the IPMA standard is based on. The paper presents a brief description of the IPMA standard and endeavours to define the notion of competence. The competence is worked with in respect to hierarchical recognition. The proposed teaching concept works with the concepts of information, knowledge and skills. The teaching proposal stems from the structure and contents of the IPMA standard elements. Furthermore, the paper elaborates the issue of embedding the elements of the IPMA standard competences into training courses. In the article, the eye of the IPMA competences is further enhanced with possible training courses and specialist areas in which the standard elements can thematically be included. The paper states that the competence elements and training courses cross one another and overlap in a manifold way. The authors also propose a way which could verify into what extent the students have actually acquired taught IPMA competence elements. The paper contains the proposal of feedback quantification for the IPMA standard and project management teaching. The results of the paper can be used as a starting premise for future research. Both the verification proposal and the embedding of the elements into teaching are derived from on-going academic experience of the authors of the article

Any organization can not achieve the aim without work of its staff and the staff can not work effectively without suitable motivation. Workers are not motivated just with wages, non-financial bonuses are offered too. These are working environment, education system or public recognition. There should be a staff department in every middle-sized company. Workers can be satisfied for teamwork or they can be satisfied as individuals. First part of this work is about motivation which is descibed in bibliogrphy, second part is dedicated to personal work in chosen company. There can be some diferences between benefits offered by employers and benefits which are prefered by employees based on experience. Presente circumstances is that benefits market is very variegated.Práce je zaměřena na pracovní motivaci a hlouběji rozebírá zaměstnanecké benefity. Žádná organizace nemůže dosáhnout svých cílů bez práce zaměstnanců a ti nepracují efektivně bez patřičné motivace. Pracovníci nejsou motivováni k výkonu jen prostřednictvím finančního ohodnocení, ale uplatňují se také nefinanční odměny, které zahrnují pracovní prostředí, systém vzdělávání nebo třeba veřejné uznání. Pro větší firmy je velmi podstatná existence personálního útvaru. Je možné odměnit pracovníky za týmovou práci, nebo mohou být ohodnoceny jejich individuální zásluhy. V první části práce je motivace popsána na základě dostupné odborné literatury, druhá část se věnuje péči o zaměstnance v konkrétní organizaci. Praxe také naznačuje, že existují nepatrné rozdíly mezi benefity, jež nabízejí zaměstnavatelé a benefity, které jsou preferovány zaměstnanci.     The article presents selected results from an ethnographic study on the (re)production of gender in the classroom. In this analysis, gender is conceived as a principle manifested in interactions, a principle that structures the lives of individuals and the collective, and not as a complex of essential characteristics of an individual. Gender is analysed in relation to other categories like age and ethnicity. These represent additional re/constructed categories that influence social inequality. These categories tend to be viewed as natural sources of social difference and the legitimisation of inequalities. An analysis of the ways in which these categories are activated in the social fi eld makes it possible to go beyond the boundaries of research on the reifi cation of these categories. In this article, the author shows how these categories intertwine and connect and how the interplay between them is manifested in the behaviour and strategies of various actors, i.e. students, in the classroom

    The paper deals with the project called Online Study Support for the Subject of Business English within the Fund of Higher Education Development of the Czech Republic. It will be created in the form of a twelve-module course in the Moodle Learning Management System (LMS) on the B1 level of the Common European Framework of References for Languages. Moodle is an open source Virtual Learning Environment which is free, developed by a worldwide community and is used for study purposes. It allows the teachers to create online courses and the students to enrol in them. The course is focused on the development of business and economic terminology, on reading comprehension, listening comprehension and the work with up-to-date authentic audio-visual materials. The course comprises the topics such as business and its basic terms, business letters, business organizations, macroeconomics and microeconomics, personnel management, marketing, email, accounting and finance etc. Single units have the following structure: lead in, key words and definitions, specialist material, various activities such as filling in the gaps, multiple choice, matching, word formation, word order etc. These electronic activities are created in the most famous authoring tool in our field called Hot Potatoes, they can be stored on a central server and accessed from anywhere through the Internet. Online support will be intended for students of all faculties and fields of study at the Czech University of Life Sciences (CULS) in Prague, including incoming Erasmus students and academic staff as well as the students of other universities
