An experiment was conducted to identify promising varieties of onion suited for cultivation under low hill conditions of Himachal Pradesh. Ten varieties were evaluated at Research Farm of the Institute of Biotechnology and Environmental Science, Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Neri, Hamirpur, for two consecutive seasons (2010- 2011 and 2011-2012). The farm is located at an altitude of 620m above mean sea level, with average mean maximum and minimum temperatures of 31.3°C and 12.4°C, respectively, and is a representative site of the low hill region of Himachal Pradesh. Standard package of practices was followed for raising the crop as recommended by the University. Observations were recorded on various horticultural traits, viz., plant height, number of leaves per plant, days to harvest, neck thickness, bulb diameter, bulb weight, TSS, and total yield. In addition, all the varieties were screened for resistance against purple blotch disease. Maximum days to harvest (129.33 days) were seen in the variety Holland Louis, while, variety Agrifound Rose showed minimum number of days (109). Varieties Palam Lohit, Nasik Red, N-53 and Agrifound Dark Red recorded significantly higher bulb yield (275.00, 240.67, 239.25 and 232.37 q/ha, respectively) than the other varieties evaluated. None of the varieties was able to resist the disease totally; however, 'Agrifound Dark Red' was moderately resistant, exhibiting just 13.78% disease incidence. Varieties Palam Lohit, Nasik Red and Agrifound Dark Red had medium bulb size and higher yield. These can be advocated for commercial cultivation under low hill conditions of Himachal Pradesh

A Novel Fuzzy Logic Based Technique to Find the Criticality of Power Transformer

Determining the current prevailing conditions in the transformer is still a challenge and an attempt is made for meeting the same challenge. In this paper a novel system based on fuzzy logic is developed which considers thermal, electrical and mechanical conditions prevailing in the transformer and gives the critical status of the transformer at an aggregate. The developed system also facilitates to give the critical condition of Paper thermal, Oil thermal, Partial discharge, Electrical arching, Dissolved gas analysis(DGA), Break down voltage and sweep frequency response analysis(SFRA) individually so that corresponding preventive measures can be taken by the technologists. This system consists of 10 fuzzy logic controllers whose connections are made by considering technical conditions and reasons, the corresponding rule bases of these fuzzy logic controllers were developed by considering various standards and experience of TIFAC CORE in NIT-Hamirpur. This fuzzy logic based system is tested for various transformers and found that it is highly précised in classifying the critical statues of any transformer as well as all identifying the current prevailing conditions

Central to the challenge of feed scarcity in hills of Uttarakhand, trials were conducted in hill state of Uttarakhand India in two location of Tehri Garhwal and Pithoragarh districts for fodder grain and residue yields under different management. Fodder quality of the feed was analyzed using proximate principles. Results revealed that, the improved variety BHS 380 performed better in terms of fodder, grain and straw yields. Location wise, the performance in terms of grain and straw yield was commendable in Pithoragarh compared to Tehri Garhwal. In Tehri Garhwal BHS 380 produced substantially higher quantities of grain (4.78t-ha), straw (7.31t-ha) besides 3.78t-ha of green fodder during lean season, likewise in Pithorgarh district BHS 380 yielded higher quantity of grain (7.23 t-ha) and straw(13.80t-ha) besides 1.28 t-ha of green fodder during lean season, under delayed sowing in December. Crude protein in green fodder of BHS 380 was more than the local and can result in quality feeding in fodder scarce season for livestock

Full Mouth Rehabilitation with Fixed Partial Denture and Dental Implants: A Case Report

    Get PDF
The major challenge in prosthodontics is restoring the function while maintaining the esthetics, especially considering the cases of full mouth rehabilitation. The use of a complete denture was thought to be the best solution in the past for these conditions but the perfect fit of the dentures raised questions in many cases. The advent of implants in dentistry proved to be a boon for such patients. Dental Implants are one of the most preferred treatment options for such cases as they help to support and retain the fixed or removable prosthesis. Implant-supported prosthesis gives an opportunity to such patients to lead a normal and healthy life considering their functional and esthetic demands. Successful osseointegration enables both dentist and the patient to accept full-arch implant-supported prosthesis. Here we present a case of full mouth rehabilitation with implants and fixed prosthesis

ANFIS Based Approach to Estimate Remnant Life of Power Transformer by Predicting Furan Contents

Condition monitoring and diagnostic playing important role in estimating remnant Life of power transformer. Concentration of furan content in transformer oil can be a promising factor for indirect measurement of the aging of transformer insulation. The oil gets contaminated mainly due to prolonged operation and ageing. The present research paper introduces Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) technique to correlate furanic compounds obtained by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) test to remnant life of the power transformer. The results are obtained by conducting HPLC test at TIFAC-CORE lab, NIT Hamirpur on thirteen samples of Power transformer oil taken from Himachal State Electricity Board Ltd, Shimla (India).DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i4.556
