Spectral Properties of Tensor Products of Channels
We investigate spectral properties of the tensor products of two quantum
channels defined on matrix algebras. This leads to the important question of
when an arbitrary subalgebra can split into the tensor product of two
subalgebras. We show that for two unital quantum channels and
the multiplicative domain of
splits into the tensor product of the
individual multiplicative domains. Consequently, we fully describe the fixed
points and peripheral eigen operators of the tensor product of channels.
Through a structure theorem of maximal unital proper -subalgebras (MUPSA)
of a matrix algebra we provide a non-trivial upper bound of the 'multiplicative
index' of a unital channel which was recently introduced. This bound gives a
criteria on when a channel cannot be factored into a product of two different
channels. We construct examples of channels which can not be realized as a
tensor product of two channels in any way. With these techniques and results,
we found some applications in quantum error correction.Comment: Proofs of Section 3 are simplified using a result of Ola Bratteli.

A conceptual study of spirituality in selected writings of Emile Jaques-Dalcroze
Several authors have noted that one of Émile Jaques-Dalcroze’s aims was to dissolve the mind–body dualism, typical of Cartesianism. However, there has been little research on the spirit–body connection, as it appears in Jaques-Dalcroze’s writings. The purpose of this document analysis is to understand how a hermeneutic phenomenological model for spirituality in music education can inform our understanding of spirituality in selected writings by Jaques-Dalcroze. In the adapted model holism, balance, aesthetic experience, and movement in time, space, and with energy emerged as core concepts. This gives us a much richer understanding of the Dalcroze approach than has hitherto been available and adds to a growing narrative about the spiritual as it pertains to Jaques-Dalcroze and the approach he initiated
Nanodroplets Impacting on Graphene
The unique and remarkable properties of graphene can be exploited as the
basis to a wide range of applications. However, in spite of years of
investigations there are some important graphene properties that are not still
fully understood, as for example, its wettability. There are controversial
reported results whether graphene is really hydrophobic or hydrophilic. In
order to address this problem we have carried out classical molecular dynamics
simulations of water nanodroplets shot against graphene surface. Our results
show that the contact angle values between the nanodroplets and graphene
surfaces depend on the initial droplet velocity value and these angles can
change from 86 degrees (hydrophobic) to 35 degrees (hydrophilic). Our
preliminary results indicate that the graphene wettability can be dependent on
spreading liquid dynamics and which can explain some of the apparent
inconsistencies reported in the literature
The decentralization of public services : lessons from the theory of the firm
The literature on the theory of the firm is rich in theoretical and practical insights. The key messages in this overview are the following: (a) the modern theory of the firm provides many insights into political organization, for political jurisdictions can be viewed as pseudo-firms that provide services and that group together various kinds of decisionmaking activities. (b) questions about decentralization in government are questions about the allocation of control rights. If contractual relation were complete, it would not matter whether power were decentralized, as contracts would specify everything to be done at each level of government. There would be no need for discretion; (c) how much to decentralize depends on which level of government will have the most incentive to bring about desired outcomes. Centralized governments may be better at coordinating things but tend to be less accountable than decentralized governments (with important expections); and (d) the organizational design of government affects not only incentives to make decisions but also incentives to gather the information on which those decisions are based.Knowledge Economy,Environmental Economics&Policies,National Governance,Banks&Banking Reform,Education for the Knowledge Economy
The Method of Social Analysis in Social Change and Social Research
There is a widespread tendency to classify clinical, practical, social change studies as applied and therefore atheoretical work, in contrast to research which is meant to develop and test concepts, hypotheses, and theories. I believe that this view is incorrect. The significance of the development of a clinical sociology will lie, as does all clinical research, in its conjoined contribution to theory and practice - to theory developed in practice and toughened by use, and to practice informed by theory. In this article I propose to describe one experience in clinical sociology which may demonstrate this interaction
Is Issue Management evolving or progressing towards extinction: A status review
After almost 40 years of development, issue management has reached a point where it could either fade out of fashion or continue evolving into new forms. Reviewing both the past and possible future, four major trends are identified – migration of the discipline beyond the corporation to Government agencies and NGOs; the impact of social media and the rise of new community expectations; continuing developments in the relationship between issue management and crisis management; and the challenge of how issue management is positioned within organizations and among other management activities. Each of these trends is analysed to assess its impact on the future of issue management, and how the roles of corporate and non-corporate players will likely have significantly different influences on shaping its survival
