    A knowledge perspective on HRM activities: what matters for HRM?.

    This stuy discusses the HRM literature and models from a knowledge perspective relying on the distinction between component and architectural knowledge. Given this distinction, it examines the influence of HRM activities on client orientation, felt responsibility, psychological attachment and cooperative attitude, four main characteristics of a learning organisation.Knowledge;

    Watertightness of window frames: experience of notified bodies

    The research facility for testing building envelope elements at Ghent University has been testing the air- and watertightness of windows for over 30 years. As a certified lab a lot of tests are done for the industry according to standard procedures. This paper presents the results and analysis of about 200 tests that were carried out throughout the last 10 years. Is the overall performance of the window correlated with the construction material? And does a good airtightness guarantee a corresponding watertightness? All too often the test samples delivered by the industry are an exception to the rule: while a grade A window is delivered to the lab, poor quality is general practice. Clients, architects and contractors need clear-cut specifications concerning performance assessment in order to obtain a high-quality product, and if there are apparent indications of defects or flaws the specifications should provide the possibility to put a randomly chosen window to the test. Based on the experience of the test lab as notified body guidelines for quality management in low-rise and high-rise buildings are developed

    Design principles for pressure moderated window frames

    High performance window frames that are widely used in Europe rely on pressure moderation to achieve a good weathertightness. By separating the airtightness plane from the water shedding surface a drained cavity can be pressure moderated. As wind pressure is the main driving force for water to infiltrate into the frame, a pressure equalized system is able to achieve higher performance levels. In this paper the performance of window frames is analyzed in two separate ways: first of all experimental research was conducted on a single frame to analyze the way it functions and fails, secondly a database of the university window testing facility was used to perform a parametric analysis. High frequency measurements on window frames provide for the information to model the pressure in the cavity and render information on prevalent parameters. The influence of different elements (section, joggles, gaskets, fittings) is examined in both dry as well as rainy conditions during static and dynamic pressure differences. The airtightness of the outer plane divided by the airtightness of the inner plane is the main parameter that will determine the watertightness potential of window frames. Based on the research carried out within the framework of that program and the analysis of the test reports in the database design principles have been determined requisite to achieve adequate pressure moderation in window frames

    This paper aims to contribute to the debates about the nature of the speaker-related meanings of the mental state predicates, on the basis of a diachronic corpus study into the semantic evolution of five such verbs in Dutch. The analyses show that each of these verbs develops its own spe-cific profile in terms of a limited set of clearly distinguishable speaker-related meanings, viz. epistemic modality, evidentiality, and ‘subjectivi-ty’. Each of these meanings is moreover characterized by a distinctive di-achronic path. The study thus also demonstrates the independent status of ‘subjectivity’ as a meaning category.Diese Untersuchung hat zum Ziel, einen Beitrag zur Debatte über die Art der sprecherbezogenen Bedeutungen von Verben des Denkens und Erkennens zu leisten, indem sie versucht, mithilfe einer diachronischen Korpusstudie die Entwicklung von fünf solchen Verben in der niederländischen Sprache darzustellen. Forschungsresultate zeigen, dass jedes der untersuchten Verben ein eigenes Profil im Sinne einer begrenzten Reihe von untereinander deutlich unterscheidbaren sprecherbezogenen Bedeutungen entwickelt, nämlich epistemische Modalität, Evidentialität und Subjektivität. Jede dieser Bedeutungen ist außerdem durch einen distinktiven diachronischen Entwicklungsweg gekennzeichnet. Zusätzlich veranschaulicht die Untersuchung den selbstständigen Status der Subjektivität als Bedeutungskategorie

    This study was undertaken to test the hypothesis that altered podocyte slit protein nephrin distribution is associated with disturbed polarity protein expressions in podocytes from preeclampsia (PE). We examined expressions and distributions of nephrin, podoplanin, polarity protein partitioning defective-3 (PARD-3), and PARD-6 in podocytes from PE. Podocyte cell line (AB 8/13 cells) was used as control. Podocytes were found in all severe PE cases. In contrast, no podocyte was found in the samples from normal pregnancies and mild PE. Compared to control cells, nephrin, PARD-3 and PARD-6 expressions were reduced or lost in podocytes from severe PE. Podoplanin was expressed in podocyte surface membrane on control cells but reduced in podocytes from PE. These findings indicate that loss of slit protein nephrin and polarity protein PARD-3 and PARD-6 on foot processes could explain for podocyte detachment from glomerular basement membrane and lead to podocyte shedding in PE. © The Author(s) 2011.link_to_subscribed_fulltex

    A Proposed Conceptual Framework for Blockchain Systems

    Get PDF
    Across organisations data exchange is a topic of increasing interest. Blockchain technology is a promising technology for this management problem. Understanding the technology requires an understanding of the vocabulary related to blockchain systems and blockchain technology. The aim of this paper is to develop vocabulary and definitions for blockchain system, blockchain system type, blockchain system functional characteristics, blockchain subtype, blockchain system non-functional characteristics, blockchain system application area and governance of blockchain systems. This research is done by a systematic literature review and a systematic mapping study to identify vocabulary for defining a proposed conceptual framework for blockchain systems. None of the definitions have yet been used. As such, more work has to be done before actual implementations of putting such technology in a real life setting
