    Towards an Integrative Understanding of Privacy Nudging – Systematic Review and Research Agenda

    When using digital technologies, various data traces are left behind for collection, storage and analysis. Innovative solutions for information systems are needed that mitigate privacy risks and foster information privacy. One mechanism to achieve this are privacy nudges. Nudges are a concept from behavioural economics to influence individual’s decisions. This paper focusses on building an integrative understanding of privacy nudging. Specifically, we conceptualize the constituting characteristics of privacy nudges by conducting a systematic literature review to cover the current state of knowledge in the interdisciplinary privacy nudge literature stream. We structure the intrapersonal factors that determine effectiveness for each privacy nudge in a morphological box and conceptualize on this basis current research coverage as well as demand for future research. Finally, we develop theoretical propositions contributing to the discussion of how to study and design effective privacy nudges that can pave the way for more privacy sensitive IT systems

    With this paper, we examine the use of data analytics for crisis management in automotive procurement departments. Possible business values of data analytics were part of numerous research approaches. Nevertheless, automotive manufacturers are repeatedly confronted with supply chain disruptions. Procurement departments have a central role within supply chains and are predominantly responsible for stable supply processes. Taking into account the potential of data analytics, such crises should be avoided or at least mitigated. Thus, there is the question, why data analytics cannot currently help automotive procurement departments by facing such crises. We therefore evaluate problems and obstacles by implementing and using data analytics in automotive procurement departments. Therefore, we talk to experienced procurement experts for evaluating practical insights. With our findings we provide practical insights and applicable recommendations for action with the goal of helping procurement leaders to better leverage data analytics for meeting current and future crises

    Does culture matter? A qualitative and comparative study on eLearning in Germany and China

    eLearning offers the exciting opportunity to acquire new material at any time and any place. It is also a means to teach a large number of people simultaneously, which is an important aspect when thinking about challenges in fast growing countries like China. We suggest that the successful usage of eLearning requires the consideration of didactic socialization. While prior research has primarily focused on the overall success factors of eLearning, there is little understanding about how a specific learning culture context influences its usefulness. This study intends by a use of a proxy approach to investigate culture-sensitive success factors of eLearning measures regarding overall satisfaction and learning success. The results of the comparison of the German and East Asian learning context show that there are culturally specific requirements of eLearning success that cater to the specific didactic socialization

    Hydrolytic and chromatographic studies on the PEGylation of dextranase from Penicillium sp.

    AbstractDextranases catalyze the hydrolysis of the α-l,6-glucosidic bond of the polysaccharide dextran. Dextranases have been isolated from bacteria, yeast and fungi. Purified dextranase enzyme from Penicillium sp. was PEGylated (polyethylene glycol modification) with mPEG (5000Da) and showed an increase in the dextranase protein molecular weight as estimated by Superose 12 (23ml) column and this increment in the molecular weight is directly proportional to mPEG (5000Da) concentration until a complete dextranase enzyme PEGylation (disappearance of dextranase peak). The residual activity of partially PEGylated dextranase (mPEG 5000 of 5.8mg/ml) was 33.8% and for the completely PEGylated dextranase (mPEG 5000 of 29mg/ml) it was 25.75%. Dextranase PEGylated with mPEG (30,000Da) showed a little PEGylation at mPEG concentration of 5.8mg/ml but at a concentration of 29mg/ml several PEGylated peaks were produced with a difference in dextranase activity toward dextran T500, retardation in the activity with the increasing in the molecular weight was clearly appeared with Sephadex G75 but for Sephadex G200 a little retardation than Sephadex G75 has been appeared

    Individual Appropriation of Learning Management Systems—Antecedents and Consequences

    IT support in the learning process constitutes a key factor for the success of innovative teaching/learning scenarios. To ensure learning success in innovative teaching/learning scenarios, learners need to faithfully apply learning management systems (LMS). However, we lack theoretical insights into which factors affect whether they do so. To help solve this issue, we first used adaptive structuration theory to identify antecedents and consequences regarding faithful LMS appropriation and embed them into a theoretical model. Second, we conducted a survey study with 173 participants to evaluate the model. The results show that the perceived IT support, interactivity, and the task-technology fit significantly affect the degree to which learners faithfully apply a LMS. Moreover, the results indicate that faithful appropriation is a significant indicator of the learning process satisfaction as well as perceived learning success. The present paper thus theoretically contributes to the scientific discussion concerning technology-mediated learning processes while also making a practical contribution by deriving implications for LMS application

    Conceptualizing Design Knowledge in IS Research – A Review and Taxonomy of Design Knowledge Properties

    Design science projects are of great interest in information systems (IS) research. Typically, design-oriented projects generate valuable design knowledge through the design and possible instantiation of artifacts. Although designing novel artifacts and accumulating design knowledge is common practice in IS, there is still limited shared knowledge about the distinctive characteristics of design knowledge to facilitate its accumulation. To address this issue, we develop a design knowledge taxonomy and contribute to a deeper understanding of design knowledge properties. The taxonomy is grounded on a systematic literature review, followed by a combination of empirical-to-conceptual and conceptual-to-empirical iterations. We evaluate the taxonomy by interviewing six domain experts and demonstrate its practical application and utility. Thus, the taxonomy consists of key dimensions and characteristics of design knowledge and contributes to a better scientific understanding of its characteristics. Practitioners can use the taxonomy as an instrument to further understand, design, and accumulate design knowledge

    Towards a Holistic Understanding of Technology-mediated Learning Appropriation

    Information technology in the learning process is one major success factor for innovative learning scenarios. A necessary pre-condition is the faithful appropriation of technology-mediated learning (TML) to ensure learning outcomes. However, research still lacks insights concerning determinants and consequences of a faithful TML appropriation. Therefore, this research-in-progress paper presents a mixed-methods research approach to gain a holistic understanding of TML appropriation. First, based on the insights of adaptive structuration theory, a theoretical model is developed considering objective and subjective measures for TML appropriation as well as antecedents and consequences of TML appropriation. Second, the mixed-methods approach is presented in order to evaluate the theoretical model. Our expected contribution to theory includes an extension of both TML and adaptive structuration theory with an in-depth view of TML appropriation. Expected practical contributions include the derivation of design implications for TML services that are faithfully appropriated to ensure learning success of TML participants

    Sharing Design Knowledge Through Codification in Interdisciplinary DSR Collaborations

    The goals of design science research (DSR) projects are to generate novel and useful artifacts and to produce rigorous and generalizable design knowledge. Often, DSR projects are conducted in collaborative, interdisciplinary project teams. Different disciplinary approaches to codifying design knowledge result in challenging project interactions. To study this situation, we analyze design knowledge codification in interdisciplinary teams over time. We gain insights from a survey of recent DSR papers that have been published in the AIS Senior Scholars’ Basket. We then present a detailed case study of a longitudinal project that brought to light issues of sharing design knowledge across disciplinary borders. Drawing from the survey and case study, we provide actionable guidance on how to effectively codify and share design knowledge to support researchers and practitioners to build useful artifacts and to make interdisciplinary design knowledge contributions reusable and applicable

    Today’s servitized and digitalized society has significant implications for the economical system as value creation increasingly shifts towards digital services. Driven by different factors, service providers have been enabled to scale up their businesses. One of these factors is artificial intelligence, which enabled many novel technological artifacts like conversational agents (CA). These human-like AI-driven artifacts open new possibilities and channels for service providers to create value, or to scale up their business even further. However, while we witness the results of that everyday, what do we really know about scalability of services and the role of CAs therein? Therefore, we conduct an analysis of service research and popular CAs to determine the status quo and highlight opportunities for scaling services with CAs. We contribute to theory by clarifying the meaning of scalability in combination with CAs and support practitioners by providing an overview about how companies successfully scale their CAs
