    A NETWORK LINK PREDICTION MODEL BASED ON OBJECT-OBJECT MATCH METHOD

    In this paper, we proposed and evaluated a new network link prediction method that can be used to predict missing links in a social network. In the proposed model, to improve the prediction accuracy, the network link prediction problem is transformed to a general object-object match prediction problem, in which the nodes of a network are regarded as objects and the neighbors of a node are regarded as the node\u27s associated features. Also a machine learning framework is devised for the systematic prediction. We compare the prediction accuracy of the proposed method with existing network link prediction methods using well-known network datasets such as a scientific co-authorship network, an e-mail communication network, and a product co-purchasing network. The results showed that the proposed approach made a significant improvement in all three networks. Also it reveals that considering the neighbor\u27s neighbors are critical to improve the prediction accuracy

    The effect of beta1-adrenergic receptor gene polymorphism on prolongation of corrected QT interval during endotracheal intubation under sevoflurane anesthesia

    BACKGROUND: The hemodynamic responses to endotracheal intubation are associated with sympathoadrenal activity. Polymorphisms in the beta1-adrenergic receptor (Ī²(1)AR) gene can alter the pathophysiology of specific diseases. The aim of this study is to investigate whether the Ser49Gly and Arg389Gly polymorphism of the Ī²(1)AR gene have different cardiovascular responses during endotracheal intubation under sevoflurane anesthesia. METHODS: Ninety-one healthy patients undergoing general anesthesia were enrolled. Patients underwent slow inhalation induction of anesthesia using sevoflurane in 100% oxygen. Vecuronium 0.15 mg/kg was given for muscle relaxation. Endotracheal intubation was performed by an anesthesiologist. The mean arterial pressure (MAP), heart rate (HR), and the corrected QT (QTc) interval were measured before induction, before laryngoscopy, and immediately after tracheal intubation. Genomic DNA was isolated from the patients' peripheral blood and then evaluated for the Ī²(1)AR-49 and Ī²(1)AR-389 genes using an allele-specific polymerase chain reaction method. RESULTS: No differences were found in the baseline values of MAP, HR, and the QTc interval among Ī²(1)AR-49 and Ī²(1)AR-389, respectively. In the case of Ī²(1)AR-49, the QTc interval change immediately after tracheal intubation was significantly greater in Ser/Ser genotypes than in Ser/Gly genotypes. No differences were observed immediately after tracheal intubation in MAP and HR for Ī²(1)AR-49 and Ī²(1)AR-389. CONCLUSIONS: We found an association between the Ser49 homozygote gene of Ī²(1)AR-49 polymorphism and increased QTc prolongation during endotracheal intubation with sevoflurane anesthesia. Thus, Ī²(1)AR-49 polymorphism may be useful in predicting the risk of arrhythmia during endotracheal intubation in patients with long QT syndrome.ope

    Metal-organic framework based on hinged cube tessellation as transformable mechanical metamaterial

    Mechanical metamaterials exhibit unusual properties, such as negative Poisson???s ratio, which are difficult to achieve in conventional materials. Rational design of mechanical metamaterials at the microscale is becoming popular partly because of the advance in three-dimensional printing technologies. However, incorporating movable building blocks inside solids, thereby enabling us to manipulate mechanical movement at the molecular scale, has been a difficult task. Here, we report a metal-organic framework, self-assembled from a porphyrin linker and a new type of Zn-based secondary building unit, serving as a joint in a hinged cube tessellation. Detailed structural analysis and theoretical calculation show that this material is a mechanical metamaterial exhibiting auxetic behavior. This work demonstrates that the topology of the framework and flexible hinges inside the structure are intimately related to the mechanical properties of the material, providing a guideline for the rational design of mechanically responsive metal-organic frameworks

    Absolute Properties of the Oscillating Eclipsing Algol X Trianguli

    We report results from the TESS photometric data and new high-resolution spectra of the Algol system X Tri showing short-period pulsations. From the echelle spectra, the radial velocities of the eclipsing pair were measured, and the rotational rate and effective temperature of the primary star were obtained to be v1v_1sinā”\sini=84Ā±6i=84\pm6 km sāˆ’1^{-1} and Teff,1=7900Ā±110T_{\rm eff,1}=7900 \pm 110 K, respectively. The synthetic modeling of these observations implies that X Tri is in synchronous rotation and is physically linked to a visual companion TIC 28391715 at a separation of about 6.5 arcsec. The absolute parameters of our target star were accurately and directly determined to be M1=2.137Ā±0.018M_1 = 2.137 \pm 0.018 MāŠ™M_\odot, M2=1.101Ā±0.010M_2 = 1.101 \pm 0.010 MāŠ™M_\odot, R1=1.664Ā±0.010R_1 = 1.664 \pm 0.010 RāŠ™R_\odot, R2=1.972Ā±0.010R_2 = 1.972 \pm 0.010 RāŠ™R_\odot, L1=9.67Ā±0.55L_1 = 9.67 \pm 0.55 LāŠ™L_\odot, and L2=2.16Ā±0.09L_2 = 2.16 \pm 0.09 LāŠ™L_\odot. The phase-binned mean light curve was used to remove the binary effect from the observed TESS data. Multifrequency analysis of the residuals revealed 16 significant frequencies, of which the high-frequency signals between 37 dayāˆ’1^{-1} and 48 dayāˆ’1^{-1} can be considered probable pulsation modes. Their oscillation periods of 0.021āˆ’-0.027 days and pulsation constants of 0.014āˆ’-0.018 days are typical values of Ī“\delta Sct variables. The overall results demonstrate that X Tri is an oEA star system, consisting of a Ī“\delta Sct primary and its lobe-filling companion in the semi-detached configuration.Comment: 27 pages, including 8 figures and 6 tables, accepted for publication in A

    Association between childhood adversities and adulthood depressive symptoms in South Korea: Results from a nationally representative longitudinal study

    Objective To examine how childhood adversity (ie, parental death, parental divorce, suspension of school education due to financial strain or being raised in a relative\u27s house due to financial strain) is associated with prevalence and incidence of adulthood depressive symptoms and whether this association differs by gender and by age in South Korea. Design Prospective cohort design. Setting Nationally representative longitudinal survey in South Korea. Participants 11ā€…526 participants in South Korea. Outcome measure Prevalence and incidence of adulthood depressive symptoms were assessed as a dichotomous variable using the Centers for Epidemiologic Studies Depression (CES-D) Scale in 2006 and 2007. Results In the prevalence analysis, each of the four childhood adversities was significantly associated with a higher prevalence of adulthood depressive symptoms. The higher incidence of depressive symptoms was associated with suspension of school education (OR 1.55, 95% CI 1.32 to 1.82) and parental divorce (OR 1.65, 95% CI 1.00 to 2.71). In the age-stratified analyses, prevalence of depressive symptoms was associated with all CAs across different adulthoods, except for parental divorce and late adulthood depressive symptoms. After being stratified by gender, the association was significant for parental divorce (OR 3.76, 95% CI 2.34 to 6.03) in the prevalence analysis and for being raised in a relativeā€™s house (OR 1.89, 95% CI 1.21 to 2.94) in the incidence analysis only among women. Conclusions This study suggests that childhood adversity may increase prevalence and incidence of adulthood depressive symptoms, and the impact of parental divorce or being raised in a relative\u27s house due to financial strain on adulthood depressive symptoms may differ by gender

    Synergistic Effects of Simvastatin and Irinotecan against Colon Cancer Cells with or without Irinotecan Resistance

    Aims. We here investigated whether the combination of simvastatin and irinotecan could induce the synergistic effect on colon cancer cells with or without resistance to irinotecan. Methods. We investigated cell proliferation assay and assessed cell death detection ELISA and caspase-3 activity assay of various concentrations of simvastatin and irinotecan to evaluate the efficacy of drug combination on colon cancer cells with or without irinotecan resistance. Results. The IC50 values of simvastatin alone and irinotecan alone were 115.4Ā±0.14ā€‰Ī¼M (r=0.98) and 62.5Ā±0.18ā€‰Ī¼M (r=0.98) in HT-29 cells without resistance to irinotecan. The IC50 values of these two drugs were 221.9Ā±0.22ā€‰Ī¼M (r=0.98) and 195.9Ā±0.16ā€‰Ī¼M (r=0.99), respectively, in HT-29 cell with resistance to irinotecan. The results of combinations of the various concentrations of two drugs showed that combined treatment with irinotecan and simvastatin more efficiently suppressed cell proliferation of HT-29 cells even with resistance to irinotecan as well as without resistance. Furthermore, the combination of simvastatin and irinotecan at 2:1 molar ratio showed the best synergistic interaction. Conclusion. Simvastatin could act synergistically with irinotecan to overcome irinotecan resistance of colon cancer

    Necrotizing fasciitis involving the chest and abdominal wall caused by Raoultella planticola

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p><it>Raoultella planticola </it>was originally considered to be a member of environmental <it>Klebsiella</it>. The clinical significance of <it>R. planticola </it>is still not well known.</p> <p>Case presentation</p> <p>We describe the first case of necrotizing fasciitis involving the chest and abdominal wall caused by <it>R. planticola</it>. The identity of the organism was confirmed using 16S rRNA sequencing. The patient was successfully treated with the appropriate antibiotics combined with operative drainage and debridement.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p><it>R. planticola </it>had been described as environmental species, but should be suspected in extensive necrotizing fasciitis after minor trauma in mild to moderate immunocompromised patients.</p
