Disintegrating Loops of Uprooted Plastic
I’m interested in paint’s malleability. In my work, I transform the physical possibilities of paint in a literal way, using it as a tactile material to be cut apart, reassembled, or simply exposed for what it is. My paintings are labor-intensive. They are not predetermined, they meticulously evolve; crafted rather than executed. Remnant material from one painting, the result of a working process of cutting, gouging, or sanding, leads directly to the production of a new piece. In my work there is no illusion, material is meant to reiterate itself. Unlike abstract painters of the early 20th century, who hoped their work could aspire to spiritual harmony. My paintings are much more pragmatic, every day, present, and real
Connecting Sister Rosetta Tharpe to Phoebe Bridgers: A Look at the Development of Female Singer/Guitarists From 1940-Today
Sister Rosetta Tharpe, a queer Black woman and Queen of Rock and Roll, was an innovator of gospel music and popularized the use of the electric guitar in the 1940s. Her impact on American popular music is evident when listening to artists such as Elvis Presley, Little Richard, and Chuck Berry. While her influence on the music of her famous male counterparts is undeniable and referenced in documentaries, textbooks, and films, the trail-blazing guidance she provided female vocalist/guitarists is rarely highlighted. In this presentation, Ms.Prevatte will create a musical family tree connecting Sister Rosetta Tharpe to modern-day singer/songwriter, Phoebe Bridgers, by linking multiple known female singer/guitarists including Dolly Parton and Tracy Chapman. Citing direct connections and musical examples, Prevatte will explore Tharpe\u27s musical lineage and conclude with a live performance of a piece from Bridger\u27s repertoire
The objective of this research was to establish the relationship between procrastination and academic stress in psychology students at a university in Lima in the year 2021. The methodology used was quantitative, non-experimental design, transactional and correlational. The population consisted of 384 8th, 9th and 10th cycle psychology students from a university in Lima. The type of sampling was non-probabilistic by convenience and the sample consisted of 283 students. The technique used was the survey and the instruments used were: SISCO Academic Stress Inventory and the Academic Procrastination Scale (EPA). SPSS version 26 statistical software was used to analyze the data. The results found show that there is a correlation of 0.00 (p<0.05), in other words, between both variables there is a highly significant relationship (p<0.01), that is, the higher the academic stress score, the higher the procrastination index. Likewise, with respect to the dimensions of stress (stressors, symptoms, and coping strategies) and procrastination, a significance index of 0.00 (p<0.05) was obtained; therefore, it can be affirmed that, between each of the dimensions of stress and procrastination, there is a highly significant relationship
