The marketing of seasoned equity offerings
In an accelerated seasoned equity offering (SEO), an issuer foregoes the investment bank's marketing efforts in return for a lower fee. To explain why many issuing firms choose a higher cost fully marketed offer, we posit that the marketing effort flattens the issuer's short-run demand curve. Alternatively stated, with a fully marketed offer, the issuer is paying investment bankers to create demand, making the elasticity of demand at the time of issuance an endogenous choice variable. Empirical analysis shows that both the pre-issue elasticity of the issuing firm's demand curve and the offer size are important determinants of the offer method choice. We find evidence of a large transitory increase in the elasticity of demand for issuers conducting fully marketed SEOs. © 2010 Elsevier B.V.postprin
Factors which Affect Job Satisfaction and Dissatisfaction of Male and Female Interscholastic Head Coaches
Statement of Problem
This study was conducted in an effort to determine the sources of job attitudes of male and female interscholastic head coaches in the State of New Mexico. The Herzberg Dual-Factor Theory of job satisfaction formed the theoretical framework upon which this study was developed.
Procedures
A 22 item Job Satisfaction Questionnaires and a Personal Data Sheet, accompanied by an introductory letter, were sent to the entire population of 559 male and female interscholastic head coaches in the State of New Mexico. The introductory lefter, follow-up letter, and fina I post card yielded 469 returns (83.9%) of which 457 were usable (81.8%).
Conclusions
Based on the findings of this investigation, the following conclusions seem warranted:
(1) The findings of this investigation reject the Herzberg postulate that sources of satisfaction ore found only in the work content, i.e, in doing the job, and sources of job dissatisfaction are found only in the work context, i.e., the environment in which the work was done.
(2) The Herzberg factor universe is inadequate for an accurate assessment of job attitudes of a population whose role calls for intensive interaction in the public sector and/or extra organizational activity.
(3) The summation of job factors (average) is not an accurate index of job satisfaction as perceived by male and female head coaches.
(4) Although significant results were not obtained, there was a tendency for successful performance in the coaching role to lead to satisfaction, i.e., performance leads to satisfaction.
(5) The methodology employed in this investigation may have influenced the results since a greater number of significant job attitudes were reported.
(6) The results of this investigation give reason to doubt the universality of the Herzberg DuaI-Factor Theory
Application of (e,2e) Spectroscopy to the Electronic Structure of Valence Electrons in Crystalline and Amorphous Solids
This review presents theoretical and experimental aspects of (e,2e) spectroscopy specific to the study of crystalline and amorphous solids. The cross section for (e,2e) scattering is proportional to the spectral momentum density of the ejected electron under certain approximations. The theoretical framework for interpreting (e,2e) measurements is summarized here and general properties of the spectral momentum density of solids are discussed. Different designs of the (e,2e) spectrometer are described and sample preparation techniques are briefly reviewed. A summary of recent (e,2e) experiments on the electronic structure of valence electrons in graphite, ion sputtered and evaporated amorphous carbon, and aluminum-aluminum oxide films is given. The review concludes with a discussion of an ideal (e,2e) spectrometer for studying bulk properties of solids

Judge Robert R. Merhige, Jr. - Strict Constructionist Weathers the Storm
On August 27, 1967, Robert R. Merhige, Jr., was commissioned as a United States District Court Judge for the Eastern District of Virginia, the embarkment upon what many members of the legal community have labeled a controversial judicial career. However, examination of Judge Merhige\u27s numerous decisions reveals that his image as a disputatius public figure has been more than a function of his flare for vehemently enforcing pronouncements and policies of the Supreme Court. The man, who created fervor throughout this state and the South with his publicly chastised busing decisions of the early 1970s, has been a victim of timing rather than an implementor of unprecedented legal reasoning. He was appointed to the bench amidst the turmoil of an emotionally charged social climate and at a time when the federal forum was beginning to expand and blossom for a host of grievances such as school busing, sexual discrimination and prisoners rights. Oddly, throughout his judicial career, Judge Merhige has perceived himself as a strict constructionist \u27 striving avidly to adhere to judicial precedents in decisions transcending the spectrum of constitutional issues. It is the intent of this note to examine Judge Merhige\u27s judicial philosophy in the areas of equal protection, the first amendment, due process and administrative law as compared to federal precedents and trends existing at the time of his opinions

Precise measurement of positronium hyperfine splitting using the Zeeman effect
Positronium is an ideal system for the research of the quantum
electrodynamics (QED) in bound state. The hyperfine splitting (HFS) of
positronium, , gives a good test of the bound state
calculations and probes new physics beyond the Standard Model. A new method of
QED calculations has revealed the discrepancy by 15\,ppm (3.9) of
between the QED prediction and the experimental
average. There would be possibility of new physics or common systematic
uncertainties in the previous all experiments. We describe a new experiment to
reduce possible systematic uncertainties and will provide an independent check
of the discrepancy. We are now taking data and the current result of
has been obtained so far. A measurement with a precision of (ppm) is
expected within a year.Comment: 8 pages, 8 figures, 2 tables, proceeding of LEAP2011, accepted by
