Textile sustainability: reuse of clean waste from the textile and apparel industry
Today societies are already experiencing changes in their production systems and even consumption in order to guarantee the survival and well-being of future generations. This fact emerges from the need to adopt a more sustainable posture in both people's daily lives and productive systems. Within this context, textile sustainability emerges as the object of study of this work whose aim is to analyse which sustainability dimensions are being prioritized by the clean waste management systems of the textile and garment industries. This article aims to analyse solutions that are being proposed by sustainable creative business models in the reuse of discarded fabrics by the textile industry. Search also through a qualitative research by a case study (the Reuse Fabric Bank) understand the benefits generated by the re-use in environmental, economic, social and ways to add value. This work is supported by FEDER funds through the Competitivity Factors Operational Programme - COMPETE and by national funds through FCT - Foundation for Science and Technology within the scope of the project POCI-01-0145-FEDER-007136.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
AbstractBackgroundThe effectiveness of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is similar to that of surgery in the treatment of early lesions. The technique requires a high level of technical skill. Training on biologic models and the mastering of accessories facilitate ESD.AimsThe aim was to evaluate the usefulness of the Endolifter in facilitating tissue exposure during ESD in an in vivo porcine model performed at the experimental surgery laboratory of the School of Medicine at the Universidad de São Paulo in Brazil.Material and methodA study with an experimental design employing an in vivo porcine model was conducted on 5 Yorkshire pigs weighing 20-25kg. ESDs were performed using the Endolifter. Mucosal layer dissection was carried out with a dual knife and IT knife and all the endoscopic procedures were performed by a single expert endoscopist.ResultsA total of 25 ESDs were performed, with a technical success rate of 100%. The mean dissection time was 12.34min (range: 10.40-14.50 min) and the mean lesion size was 2.7cm (range: 2.3-3.2cm). There were no episodes of bleeding or perforations during the procedures.ConclusionsThe Endolifter enables rapid and effective ESDs to be carried out. It is an applicable and easy-to-use device that can be manipulated by a single operator
Low-temperature nucleation in a kinetic Ising model with soft stochastic dynamics
We study low-temperature nucleation in kinetic Ising models by analytical and
simulational methods, confirming the general result for the average metastable
lifetime, = A*exp(beta*Gamma) (beta = 1/kT) [E. Jordao Neves and R.H.
Schonmann, Commun. Math. Phys. 137, 209 (1991)]. Contrary to common belief, we
find that both A and Gamma depend significantly on the stochastic dynamic. In
particular, for a ``soft'' dynamic, in which the effects of the interactions
and the applied field factorize in the transition rates, Gamma does NOT simply
equal the energy barrier against nucleation, as it does for the standard
Glauber dynamic, which does not have this factorization property.Comment: 4 pages RevTex4, 2 figures. Phys. Rev. Lett., in pres
Monte Carlo with Absorbing Markov Chains: Fast Local Algorithms for Slow Dynamics
A class of Monte Carlo algorithms which incorporate absorbing Markov chains
is presented. In a particular limit, the lowest-order of these algorithms
reduces to the -fold way algorithm. These algorithms are applied to study
the escape from the metastable state in the two-dimensional square-lattice
nearest-neighbor Ising ferromagnet in an unfavorable applied field, and the
agreement with theoretical predictions is very good. It is demonstrated that
the higher-order algorithms can be many orders of magnitude faster than either
the traditional Monte Carlo or -fold way algorithms.Comment: ReVTeX, Request 3 figures from [email protected]
Scaling analysis of a divergent prefactor in the metastable lifetime of a square-lattice Ising ferromagnet at low temperatures
We examine a square-lattice nearest-neighbor Ising quantum ferromagnet
coupled to -dimensional phonon baths. Using the density-matrix equation, we
calculate the transition rates between configurations, which determines the
specific dynamic. Applying the calculated stochastic dynamic in Monte Carlo
simulations, we measure the lifetimes of the metastable state. As the magnetic
field approaches at low temperatures, the lifetime prefactor diverges
because the transition rates between certain configurations approaches zero
under these conditions. Near and zero temperature, the divergent
prefactor shows scaling behavior as a function of the field, temperature, and
the dimension of the phonon baths. With proper scaling, the simulation data at
different temperatures and for different dimensions of the baths collapse well
onto two master curves, one for and one for .Comment: published versio
