Light hadron, Charmonium(-like) and Bottomonium(-like) states
Hadron physics represents the study of strongly interacting matter in all its
manifestations and the understanding of its properties and interactions. The
interest on this field has been revitalized by the discovery of new light
hadrons, charmonium- and bottomonium-like states. I review the most recent
experimental results from different experiments.Comment: Presented at Lepton-Photon 2011, Mumbai, India; 21 pages, 18 figures;

Optimal design of multi-channel microreactor for uniform residence time distribution
Multi-channel microreactors can be used for various applications that require chemical or electrochemical reactions in either liquid, gaseous or multi phase. For an optimal control of the chemical reactions, one key parameter for the design of such microreactors is the residence time distribution of the fluid, which should be as uniform as possible in the series of microchannels that make up the core of the reactor. Based on simplifying assumptions, an analytical model is proposed for optimizing the design of the collecting and distributing channels which supply the series of rectangular microchannels of the reactor, in the case of liquid flows. The accuracy of this analytical approach is discussed after comparison with CFD simulations and hybrid analytical-CFD calculations that allow an improved refinement of the meshing in the most complex zones of the flow. The analytical model is then extended to the case of microchannels with other cross-sections (trapezoidal or circular segment) and to gaseous flows, in the continuum and slip flow regimes. In the latter case, the model is based on second-order slip flow boundary conditions, and takes into account the compressibility as well as the rarefaction of the gas flow
On theories of enhanced CP violation in B_s,d meson mixing
The DO collaboration has measured a deviation from the standard model (SM)
prediction in the like sign dimuon asymmetry in semileptonic b decay with a
significance of 3.2 sigma. We discuss how minimal flavour violating (MFV)
models with multiple scalar representations can lead to this deviation through
tree level exchanges of new MFV scalars. We review how the two scalar doublet
model can accommodate this result and discuss some of its phenomenology. Limits
on electric dipole moments suggest that in this model the coupling of the
charged scalar to the right handed u-type quarks is suppressed while its
coupling to the d-type right handed quarks must be enhanced. We construct an
extension of the MFV two scalar doublet model where this occurs naturally.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures, v3 final JHEP versio
Two-loop Corrections to the B to pi Form Factor from QCD Sum Rules on the Light-Cone and |V(ub)|
We calculate the leading-twist O(alphas^2 beta0) corrections to the B to pi
transition form factor f+(0) in light-cone sum rules. We find that, as
expected, there is a cancellation between the O(alphas^2 beta0) corrections to
fB f+(0) and the large corresponding corrections to fB, calculated in QCD sum
rules. This suggests the insensitivity of the form factors calculated in the
light-cone sum rules approach to this source of radiative corrections. We
further obtain an improved determination of the CKM matrix element |V(ub)|,
using latest results from BaBar and Belle for f+(0)|V(ub)|.Comment: 18 pages, 3 figure
A new ultrasonic process for a renewal of aortic valve decalcification
BACKGROUND: Aortic valve decalcification by ultrasound was given up. We evaluated a new ultrasound microhandpiece (Dissectron Penstyle(Âź)) to rehabilitate this alternative treatment. METHODS: We used under magnifying lenses the ultrasound microhandpiece to decalcify 30 explanted aortic valves. In the cases with embedded calcifications the thin top of the probe could be introduced into the thickness of the leaflet preserving covering layers. RESULTS: The leaflets were totally decalcified and flexible, and surrounding structures were preserved as assessed by histological examination. CONCLUSION: This new approach of ultrasonic aortic valve decalcification gives good in vitro results which allow to consider a clinical evaluation of this procedure
New Physics Models of Direct CP Violation in Charm Decays
In view of the recent LHCb measurement of Delta A_CP, the difference between
the time-integrated CP asymmetries in D --> K+K- and D --> pi+pi- decays, we
perform a comparative study of the possible impact of New Physics degrees of
freedom on the direct CP asymmetries in singly Cabibbo suppressed D meson
decays. We systematically discuss scenarios with a minimal set of new degrees
of freedom that have renormalizable couplings to the SM particles and that are
heavy enough such that their effects on the D meson decays can be described by
local operators. We take into account both constraints from low energy flavor
observables, in particular D0-D0bar mixing, and from direct searches. While
models that explain the large measured value for Delta A_CP with chirally
enhanced chromomagnetic penguins are least constrained, we identify a few
viable models that contribute to the D meson decays at tree level or through
loop induced QCD penguins. We emphasize that such models motivate direct
searches at the LHC.Comment: 24 pages, 13 figures. v2: typos corrected, reference added, published

LHC sensitivity to lepton flavour violating Z boson decays
We estimate that the LHC could set bounds BR(Z -> mu^\pm e^\mp) < 4.1 *
10^{-7} and BR(Z -> tau^\pm mu^\mp)< 3.5 * 10^{-6} (at 95% C.L.) with 20
inverse fb of data at 8 TeV. A similar sensitivity can be anticipated for Z ->
tau^\pm e^\mp, because we consider leptonic tau decays such that Z -> tau^+
mu^- gives e^+ \mu^- +$ invisibles. These limits can be compared to the LEP1
bounds of order 10^{-5} to 10^{-6}. Such collider searches are sensitive to a
flavour-changing effective Z coupling which is energy dependent, so are
complementary to bounds obtained from tau to 3mu and mu to 3e.Comment: 11 pages, 2 figures, version for publicatio
Model-independent constraints on new physics in b --> s transitions
We provide a comprehensive model-independent analysis of rare decays
involving the b --> s transition to put constraints on dimension-six Delta(F)=1
effective operators. The constraints are derived from all the available
up-to-date experimental data from the B-factories, CDF and LHCb. The
implications and future prospects for observables in b --> s l+l- and b --> s
nu nu transitions in view of improved measurements are also investigated. The
present work updates and generalises previous studies providing, at the same
time, a useful tool to test the flavour structure of any theory beyond the SM.Comment: 1+39 pages, 12 figures, 3 tables. v2: minor modifications, typos

MFV Reductions of MSSM Parameter Space
The 100+ free parameters of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM)
make it computationally difficult to compare systematically with data,
motivating the study of specific parameter reductions such as the cMSSM and
pMSSM. Here we instead study the reductions of parameter space implied by using
minimal flavour violation (MFV) to organise the R-parity conserving MSSM, with
a view towards systematically building in constraints on flavour-violating
physics. Within this framework the space of parameters is reduced by expanding
soft supersymmetry-breaking terms in powers of the Cabibbo angle, leading to a
24-, 30- or 42-parameter framework (which we call MSSM-24, MSSM-30, and MSSM-42
respectively), depending on the order kept in the expansion. We provide a
Bayesian global fit to data of the MSSM-30 parameter set to show that this is
manageable with current tools. We compare the MFV reductions to the
19-parameter pMSSM choice and show that the pMSSM is not contained as a subset.
The MSSM-30 analysis favours a relatively lighter TeV-scale pseudoscalar Higgs
boson and with multi-TeV sparticles.Comment: 2nd version, minor comments and references added, accepted for
