    Electrochemical Investigation of Exchange Current Density of Uranium and Rare-earths Couples (M3+/M0) in LiCl-KCl Eutectic Electrolyte

    Get PDF
    The objective of this work is to use electrochemical techniques to quantify the electrode reaction rate of some rare-earth elements and uranium in a LiCl-KCl eutectic electrolyte at 500oC. The exchange current densities of the oxidation-reduction couples of M3+/M0 (La3+/La0, Ce3+/Ce0, Pr3+/Pr0, Nd3+/Nd0,Gd3+/Gd0, Y3+/Y0, U3+/U0) on a tungsten electrode were measured by applying a linear polarization resistance technique. A region of linear dependence of potential on applied current could be found to describe the reaction rate of oxidation-reduction system. From these measurements, the estimated exchange current density was 0.38 mA/cm2 for uranium, and was within the range of 0.27 to 0.38mA/cm2 for rare-earth elements.open0

    Studies of the Decay B+- -> D_CP K+-

    Get PDF
    We report studies of the decay B+- -> D_CP K+-, where D_CP denotes neutral D mesons that decay to CP eigenstates. The analysis is based on a 29.1/fb data sample of collected at the \Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e+ e- storage ring. Ratios of branching fractions of Cabibbo-suppressed to Cabibbo-favored processes involving D_CP are determined to be B(B- -> D_1 K-)/B(B- -> D_1 pi-)=0.125 +- 0.036 +- 0.010 and B(B- -> D_2 K-)/B(B- -> D_2 pi-)=0.119 +- 0.028 +- 0.006, where indices 1 and 2 represent the CP=+1 and CP=-1 eigenstates of the D0 - anti D0 system, respectively. We also extract the partial rate asymmetries for B+- -> D_CP K+-, finding A_1 = 0.29 +- 0.26 +- 0.05 and A_2 = -0.22 +- 0.24 +- 0.04.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures, submitted to Physical Review Letter

    Evidence for direct CP violation in B-0 -> K+pi(-) decays

    Get PDF
    We report evidence for direct CP violation in the decay B-0-->K(+)pi(-) with 253 fb(-1) of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+)e(-) collider. Using 275x10(6) B(B) over bar pairs we observe a B-->K(+/-)pi(-/+) signal with 2140+/-53 events. The measured CP violating asymmetry is A(CP)(K(+)pi(-))=-0.101+/-0.025(stat)+/-0.005(syst), corresponding to a significance of 3.9sigma including systematics. We also search for CP violation in the decays B+-->K(+)pi(0) and B+-->pi(+)pi(0). The measured CP violating asymmetries are A(CP)(K(+)pi(0))=0.04+/-0.05(stat)+/-0.02(syst) and A(CP)(pi(+)pi(0))=-0.02+/-0.10(stat)+/-0.01(syst), corresponding to the intervals -0.05< A(CP)(K(+)pi(0))<0.13 and -0.18< A(CP)(pi(+)pi(0))<0.14 at 90% confidence level

    Measurement of vertical bar V-ub vertical bar using inclusive B -> X(u)l nu decays with a novel X-u-reconstruction method

    Get PDF
    We report the measurement of an inclusive partial branching fraction for charmless semileptonic B decay and the extraction of \V-ub\. Candidates for B-->X-u.nu are identified with a novel X-u reconstruction method based on neutrino reconstruction via missing 4-momentum and a technique called "simulated annealing." Based on 86.9 fb(-1) of data taken with the Belle detector, we obtain DeltaB(B-->X-u.nu;M-X8.0 GeV2/c(2))=[7.37+/-0.89(stat)+/-1.12(syst)+/-0.55(b-->c)+/-0.24(b-->u)]x10(-4) and determine \V-ub\=[4.66+/-0.28(stat)+/-0.35(syst)+/-0.17(b-->c)+/-0.08(b-->u)+/-0.58(theory)]x10(-3)

    Measurement of the B-0-(B)over-bar(0) mixing parameter Delta m(d) using semileptonic B-0 decays

    Get PDF
    We present a measurement of the B-0-(B-0) over bar mixing parameter Deltam(d) using neutral B meson pairs in a 29.1 fb(-1) data sample collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. We exclusively reconstruct one neutral B meson in the semileptonic B-0-->D*-.(+)nu decay mode and identify the flavor of the accompanying B meson from its decay products. From the distribution of the time intervals between the two flavor-tagged B meson decay points, we obtain Deltam(d)=(0.494+/-0.012+/-0.015) ps(-1), where the first error is statistical and the second error is systematic

    Observation of B -> K(*)l(+)l(-)

    Get PDF
    We report the observation of the flavor-changing neutral current decay B-->K*l(+l-) and an improved measurement of the decay B-->Kl(+l-), where l represents an electron or a muon, with a data sample of 140 fb(-1) accumulated at the Y(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at KEKB. The results for the branching fractions are B(B-->K*l(+l-))=(11.5(-2.4)(+2.6)+/-0.8+/-0.2)x10(-7) and B(B-->Kl(+l-))=(4.8(-0.9)(+1.0)+/-0.3+/-0.1)x10(-7), where the first error is statistical, the second is systematic and the third is from model dependence

    Observation of B-+/-->omega K-+/- decay

    Get PDF
    We report the first observation of the charmless two-body mode B+/- --> omegaK(+/-) decay, and a new measurement of the branching fraction for the B+/- --> omegapi(+/-) decay. The measured branching fractions are B(B+/- --> omegaK(+/-)) = (9.2(-2.3)(+2.6) +/-1.0) x 10(-6) and B(B+/- --> omegapi(+/-)) = (4.2(-1.8)(+2.0) +/- 0.5) x 10(-6). We also measure the partial rate asymmetry of B+/- --> omegaK(+/-) decays and obtain A(CP) = -0.21 +/- 0.28 +/- 0.03. The results are based on a data sample of 29.4 fb(-1) collected on the Y(4S) resonance by the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+)e(-) collider

    Observation of the decay (B)over-bar(0)->Lambda(+)(c)(p)over-bar

    Get PDF
    We report the measurement of the charmed baryonic decay (B) over bar (0) --> Lambda(c)(+) (p) over bar with a branching fraction of (2.19(-0.49)(+0.56) +/- 0.32 +/- 0.57) x 10(-5) and a statistical significance of 5.8 sigma. The errors are statistical, systematic, and the error of the Lambda(c)(+) --> pK(-)pi(+) decay branching fraction. This is the first observation of a two-body baryonic B decay. The analysis is based on 78.2 fb(-1) of data accumulated at the Y(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e(+)e(-) collider
