Learning by Experience in the Project-Bases Organization
This paper describes how project-based organizations use structured experience to aid the learning and development of individuals, and how they capture their experience of projects to feed that back into the improved management of future projects and the experiential learning of individuals. We show that successful project-based organizations ensure their project managers obtain a broad range practical experiences following a spiral staircase career. This takes them through lead design and project team leadership and management roles. These organizations also capture project experience through post completion reviews, and codify them in company procedures which are used as part of the development of new project managers and other professionals
Interior of a Schwarzschild black hole revisited
The Schwarzschild solution has played a fundamental conceptual role in
general relativity, and beyond, for instance, regarding event horizons,
spacetime singularities and aspects of quantum field theory in curved
spacetimes. However, one still encounters the existence of misconceptions and a
certain ambiguity inherent in the Schwarzschild solution in the literature. By
taking into account the point of view of an observer in the interior of the
event horizon, one verifies that new conceptual difficulties arise. In this
work, besides providing a very brief pedagogical review, we further analyze the
interior Schwarzschild black hole solution. Firstly, by deducing the interior
metric by considering time-dependent metric coefficients, the interior region
is analyzed without the prejudices inherited from the exterior geometry. We
also pay close attention to several respective cosmological interpretations,
and briefly address some of the difficulties associated to spacetime
singularities. Secondly, we deduce the conserved quantities of null and
timelike geodesics, and discuss several particular cases in some detail.
Thirdly, we examine the Eddington-Finkelstein and Kruskal coordinates directly
from the interior solution. In concluding, it is important to emphasize that
the interior structure of realistic black holes has not been satisfactorily
determined, and is still open to considerable debate.Comment: 15 pages, 7 figures, Revtex4. V2: Version to appear in Foundations of

Coherent states for exactly solvable potentials
A general algebraic procedure for constructing coherent states of a wide
class of exactly solvable potentials e.g., Morse and P{\"o}schl-Teller, is
given. The method, {\it a priori}, is potential independent and connects with
earlier developed ones, including the oscillator based approaches for coherent
states and their generalizations. This approach can be straightforwardly
extended to construct more general coherent states for the quantum mechanical
potential problems, like the nonlinear coherent states for the oscillators. The
time evolution properties of some of these coherent states, show revival and
fractional revival, as manifested in the autocorrelation functions, as well as,
in the quantum carpet structures.Comment: 11 pages, 4 eps figures, uses graphicx packag
Nuclear Structure Calculations with Coupled Cluster Methods from Quantum Chemistry
We present several coupled-cluster calculations of ground and excited states
of 4He and 16O employing methods from quantum chemistry. A comparison of
coupled cluster results with the results of exact diagonalization of the
hamiltonian in the same model space and other truncated shell-model
calculations shows that the quantum chemistry inspired coupled cluster
approximations provide an excellent description of ground and excited states of
nuclei, with much less computational effort than traditional large-scale
shell-model approaches. Unless truncations are made, for nuclei like 16O,
full-fledged shell-model calculations with four or more major shells are not
possible. However, these and even larger systems can be studied with the
coupled cluster methods due to the polynomial rather than factorial scaling
inherent in standard shell-model studies. This makes the coupled cluster
approaches, developed in quantum chemistry, viable methods for describing
weakly bound systems of interest for future nuclear facilities.Comment: 10 pages, Elsevier latex style, Invited contribution to INPC04

Effect of Ordering on Spinodal Decomposition of Liquid-Crystal/Polymer Mixtures
Partially phase-separated liquid-crystal/polymer dispersions display highly
fibrillar domain morphologies that are dramatically different from the typical
structures found in isotropic mixtures. To explain this, we numerically explore
the coupling between phase ordering and phase separation kinetics in model
two-dimensional fluid mixtures phase separating into a nematic phase, rich in
liquid crystal, coexisting with an isotropic phase, rich in polymer. We find
that phase ordering can lead to fibrillar networks of the minority polymer-rich
phase
The Isotope Effect in d-Wave Superconductors
Based on recently proposed anti-ferromagnetic spin fluctuation exchange
models for -superconductors, we show that coupling to harmonic
phonons {\it{cannot}} account for the observed isotope effect in the cuprate
high- materials, whereas coupling to strongly anharmonic multiple-well
lattice tunneling modes {\it{can}}. Our results thus point towards a strongly
enhanced {\it{effective}} electron-phonon coupling and a possible break-down of
Migdal-Eliashberg theory in the cuprates.Comment: 12 pages + 2 figures, Postscript files, all uuencoded Phys. Rev.

Nab: Measurement Principles, Apparatus and Uncertainties
The Nab collaboration will perform a precise measurement of 'a', the
electron-neutrino correlation parameter, and 'b', the Fierz interference term
in neutron beta decay, in the Fundamental Neutron Physics Beamline at the SNS,
using a novel electric/magnetic field spectrometer and detector design. The
experiment is aiming at the 10^{-3} accuracy level in (Delta a)/a, and will
provide an independent measurement of lambda = G_A/G_V, the ratio of
axial-vector to vector coupling constants of the nucleon. Nab also plans to
perform the first ever measurement of 'b' in neutron decay, which will provide
an independent limit on the tensor weak coupling.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures, 1 table, talk presented at the International

A light-front coupled cluster method
A new method for the nonperturbative solution of quantum field theories is
described. The method adapts the exponential-operator technique of the standard
many-body coupled-cluster method to the Fock-space eigenvalue problem for
light-front Hamiltonians. This leads to an effective eigenvalue problem in the
valence Fock sector and a set of nonlinear integral equations for the functions
that define the exponential operator. The approach avoids at least some of the
difficulties associated with the Fock-space truncation usually used.Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure; to appear in the proceedings of LIGHTCONE 2011,
