Neuro-rescue during Carotid Stenting

AbstractThis paper deals with the treatment of acute neurological complications that may occur during carotid angioplasty with stenting. Endovascular ‘neurorescue’ techniques include mechanical thrombus removal (using retrieval devices, aspiration catheters, and wire or balloon fragmentation) and local and intra-arterial thrombolysis. The treatment of acute thrombosis and dissection during carotid artery and stenting will also be discussed.Knowledge of these additional skills is essential to increasing the safety of carotid stenting procedures

Manganese ferrite thin films Part I: Preparation and structure

The preparation of manganese ferrite thin films by the reactive evaporation of oxidic materials is reported. The process is not critical and provides homogeneous mirror-like films with spinel structure. An annealing procedure below 750 °C has a strong influence on the properties of the films. Special attention is paid to the partial oxygen pressure during the annealing process. For this purpose data are collected from the literature concerning the equilibrium conditions of the spinel structure for varying manganese-iron contents. The lattice constant of the spinel structure of the films is determined by electron diffraction

Separations at the Firm Level

This paper analyzes the determinants of lay-offs, job-to-job movements and total separations with a unique data set that combines information on individual firms and their workers. We are in particular interested in whether the lay-off policy of firms can explain the relatively high level of unemployment amongst lower educated workers and the relatively strong sensitivity of their unemployment rate to the business cycle. We find that lay-off rates decrease with education but that the change over the cycle in the lay-off rate of workers with a lower level of education compared to that of workers with a higher level of education can not explain the stronger cyclicality of the unemployment rate for lower educated workers. We conclude that this stronger cyclicality is not due to the personnel policy of firms.unemployment;mobility;layoffs
