Integral equation method for the electromagnetic wave propagation in stratified anisotropic dielectric-magnetic materials
We investigate the propagation of electromagnetic waves in stratified
anisotropic dielectric-magnetic materials using the integral equation method
(IEM). Based on the superposition principle, we use Hertz vector formulations
of radiated fields to study the interaction of wave with matter. We derive in a
new way the dispersion relation, Snell's law and reflection/transmission
coefficients by self-consistent analyses. Moreover, we find two new forms of
the generalized extinction theorem. Applying the IEM, we investigate the wave
propagation through a slab and disclose the underlying physics which are
further verified by numerical simulations. The results lead to a unified
framework of the IEM for the propagation of wave incident either from a medium
or vacuum in stratified dielectric-magnetic materials.Comment: 14pages, 3figure
Assisted Tachyonic Inflation
The model of inflation with a single tachyon field generates larger
anisotropy and has difficulties in describing the formation of the Universe .
In this paper we consider a model with multi tachyon fields and study the
assisted inflationary solution. Our results show that this model satisfies the
observation.Comment: 5 pages, no figures, a revised version and reference adde
Kinetic energy driven superconductivity in doped cuprates
Within the t-J model, the mechanism of superconductivity in doped cuprates is
studied based on the partial charge-spin separation fermion-spin theory. It is
shown that dressed holons interact occurring directly through the kinetic
energy by exchanging dressed spinon excitations, leading to a net attractive
force between dressed holons, then the electron Cooper pairs originating from
the dressed holon pairing state are due to the charge-spin recombination, and
their condensation reveals the superconducting ground-state. The electron
superconducting transition temperature is determined by the dressed holon pair
transition temperature, and is proportional to the concentration of doped holes
in the underdoped regime. With the common form of the electron Cooper pair, we
also show that there is a coexistence of the electron Cooper pair and
antiferromagnetic short-range correlation, and hence the antiferromagnetic
short-range fluctuation can persist into the superconducting state. Our results
are qualitatively consistent with experiments.Comment: 6 pages, Revtex, two figures are included, corrected typo
Implications of the Fermi-LAT diffuse gamma-ray measurements on annihilating or decaying Dark Matter
We analyze the recently published Fermi-LAT diffuse gamma-ray measurements in
the context of leptonically annihilating or decaying dark matter (DM) with the
aim to explain simultaneously the isotropic diffuse gamma-ray and the PAMELA,
Fermi and HESS (PFH) anomalous data. Five different DM
annihilation/decay channels , , , , or (the latter
two via an intermediate light particle ) are generated with PYTHIA. We
calculate both the Galactic and extragalactic prompt and inverse Compton (IC)
contributions to the resulting gamma-ray spectra. To find the Galactic IC
spectra we use the interstellar radiation field model from the latest release
of GALPROP. For the extragalactic signal we show that the amplitude of the
prompt gamma-emission is very sensitive to the assumed model for the
extragalactic background light. For our Galaxy we use the Einasto, NFW and
Isothermal DM density profiles and include the effects of DM substructure
assuming a simple subhalo model. Our calculations show that for the
annihilating DM the extragalactic gamma-ray signal can dominate only if rather
extreme power-law concentration-mass relation is used, while more
realistic relations make the extragalactic component comparable or
subdominant to the Galactic signal. For the decaying DM the Galactic signal
always exceeds the extragalactic one. In the case of annihilating DM the PFH
favored parameters can be ruled out only if power-law relation is
assumed. For DM decaying into or the PFH favored DM parameters
are not in conflict with the Fermi gamma-ray data. We find that, due to the
(almost) featureless Galactic IC spectrum and the DM halo substructure,
annihilating DM may give a good simultaneous fit to the isotropic diffuse
gamma-ray and to the PFH data without being in clear conflict with the
other Fermi-LAT gamma-ray measurements.Comment: Accepted for publication in JCAP, added missing references, new Figs.

Density Fluctuation Mediated Superconductivity
We conpare predictions of the mean-field theory of supercnductivity for
metallic systems on the border of a density instability for cubic and
tetragonal lattices. The calculations are based on a parametrisation of an
effective interaction arising from the exchange of density fluctuations and
assume that a single band is relevant for superconductivity. The results show
that for comparable model parameters, desnity fluctuation mediated pairing is
more robust in quasi-two dimensions than in three dimensions, and that the
robustness of pairing increases gradually as one goes from a cubic to a more
and more anisotropic tetragonal structure. We also find that the robustness of
density fluctuation mediated pairing can depend sensitively on the incipient
ordering wavevector. We discuss the similarities and differences between the
mean-field theories of superconductivity for density and magnetically mediated
pairing
Super-conservative interpretation of muon g-2 results applied to supersymmetry
The recent developments in theory and experiment related to the anomalous
magnetic moment of the muon are applied to supersymmetry. We follow a very
cautious course, demanding that the supersymmetric contributions fit within
five standard deviations of the difference between experiment and the standard
model prediction. Arbitrarily small supersymmetric contributions are then
allowed, so no upper bounds on superpartner masses result. Nevertheless,
non-trivial exclusions are found. We characterize the substantial region of
parameter space ruled out by this analysis that has not been probed by any
previous experiment. We also discuss some implications of the results for
forthcoming collider experiments.Comment: 10 pages, latex, 3 fig
Implications of the Muon Anomalous Magnetic Moment for Supersymmetry
We re-examine the bounds on supersymmetric particle masses in light of the
E821 data on the muon anomalous magnetic moment. We confirm, extend and
supersede previous bounds. In particular we find (at one sigma) no lower limit
on tan(beta) or upper limit on the chargino mass implied by the data at
present, but at least 4 sparticles must be lighter than 700 to 820 GeV and at
least one sparticle must be lighter than 345 to 440 GeV. However, the E821
central value bounds tan(beta) > 4.7 and the lighter chargino mass by 690 GeV.
For tan(beta) < 10, the data indicates a high probability for direct discovery
of SUSY at Run II or III of the Tevatron.Comment: 20 pages LaTeX, 14 figures; references adde
Radio emission and jets from microquasars
To some extent, all Galactic binary systems hosting a compact object are
potential `microquasars', so much as all galactic nuclei may have been quasars,
once upon a time. The necessary ingredients for a compact object of stellar
mass to qualify as a microquasar seem to be: accretion, rotation and magnetic
field. The presence of a black hole may help, but is not strictly required,
since neutron star X-ray binaries and dwarf novae can be powerful jet sources
as well. The above issues are broadly discussed throughout this Chapter, with a
a rather trivial question in mind: why do we care? In other words: are jets a
negligible phenomenon in terms of accretion power, or do they contribute
significantly to dissipating gravitational potential energy? How do they
influence their surroundings? The latter point is especially relevant in a
broader context, as there is mounting evidence that outflows powered by
super-massive black holes in external galaxies may play a crucial role in
regulating the evolution of cosmic structures. Microquasars can also be thought
of as a form of quasars for the impatient: what makes them appealing, despite
their low number statistics with respect to quasars, are the fast variability
time-scales. In the first approximation, the physics of the jet-accretion
coupling in the innermost regions should be set by the mass/size of the
accretor: stellar mass objects vary on 10^5-10^8 times shorter time-scales,
making it possible to study variable accretion modes and related ejection
phenomena over average Ph.D. time-scales. [Abridged]Comment: 28 pages, 13 figures, To appear in Belloni, T. (ed.): The Jet

Lepton Flavor Violation in the SUSY-GUT Models with Lopsided Mass Matrix
The tiny neutrino masses measured in the neutrino oscillation experiments can
be naturally explained by the supersymmetric see-saw mechanism. If the
supersymmetry breaking is mediated by gravity, the see-saw models may predict
observable lepton flavor violating effects. In this work, we investigate the
lepton flavor violating process in the kind of neutrino mass
models based on the idea of the ``lopsided'' form of the charged lepton mass
matrix. The constraints set by the muon anomalous magnetic moment are taken
into account. We find the present models generally predict a much larger
branching ratio of than the experimental limit. Conversely,
this process may give strong constraint on the lepton flavor structure.
Following this constraint we then find a new kind of the charged lepton mass
matrix. The feature of the structure is that both the elements between the 2-3
and 1-3 generations are ``lopsided''. This structure produces a very small 1-3
mixing and a large 1-2 mixing in the charged lepton sector, which naturally
leads to small and the LMA solution for the solar neutrino
problem.Comment: 24 pages, 8 figure
Joint Resummation for Higgs Production
We study the application of the joint resummation formalism to Higgs
production via gluon-gluon fusion at the LHC, defining inverse transforms by
analytic continuation. We work at next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. We find
that at low Q_T the resummed Higgs Q_T distributions are comparable in the
joint and pure-Q_T formalisms, with relatively small influence from threshold
enhancement in this range. We find a modest (about ten percent) decrease in the
inclusive cross section, relative to pure threshold resummation.Comment: 22 pages, LaTeX, 5 figures as eps file
