    The world faces a global crisis that encompasses health, financial, and psychological aspects as a result of the coronavirus disease. While the health crisis is significant, it is important to recognize that the human and social crises that have emerged are equally impactful. These crises have resulted in various negative outcomes, such as social rejection, economic disparity, unemployment, and mental distress. Fear is a significant psychological barrier that can impede recovery from any disease process, and thus, it plays a critical role in determining the mortality and morbidity of any given disease. The COVID-19 pandemic has generated a pervasive fear of infection that has further exacerbated the situation. This study explored the mechanisms by which humans may have elicited conditional fear, using the COVID-19 pandemic as a specific case study. Our goal was to examine the process of fear in humans by exploring our knowledge of neuroanatomy and the systemic response regulated by the autonomic nervous system

    Gorlin Goltz syndrome: a rare case report

    Gorlin-Goltz syndrome is uncommon multisystemic disease with an autosomal dominant trait, with complete penetrance and variable expressivity, though sporadic cases have been described. We report a case of 18 years old male patient having features of Gorlin Goltz syndrome. Gorlin-Goltz syndrome is characterized by multiple basal cell nevi or carcinomas, odontogenic keratocysts, palmar and/or plantar pits, calcification of the falx cerebri, and is associated with internal malignancies. It is important to know the major and minor criteria for the diagnosis and early preventive treatment of this syndrome

    © 2019 A comprehensive strategy is important for ensuring reproducible and safe acetabular component sizing and positioning. Presented here is our approach for anatomic acetabular component positioning in direct anterior total hip arthroplasty. This strategy has evolved with our understanding of the ramifications of socket sizing and positioning on instability and impingement. Data collected by a single surgeon (J.A.R.) between 2009 and 2011 influenced our current paradigm. We compare the sizing and positioning parameters of the anterior and posterior approach, thus demonstrating how the 2 are different. By highlighting these differences, we hope to provide a clear, defined approach to acetabular placement and sizing for direct anterior-approach total hip arthroplasty

    Cadaveric study: study of lateral circumflex femoral arterial origin in Rajkot

    Background: Lateral circumflex femoral artery contributes cruciate, trochanteric and knee joint anastomosis. In addition Lateral circumflex femoral artery flaps are used for the reconstruction of large tissue loss in the head and neck region, aortopopliteal bypass, coronary artery bypass grafting and extracranial intracranial bypass surgery. This work was carried out (a) to study the origin of lateral circumflex femoral artery and (b) to measure and compare (between male and female) the circumference at its origin.Methods: In this cross sectional study, 51 femoral triangles from 26 (18 male and 08 female) human adult cadavers were dissected and studied at P.D.U. government medical college, Rajkot, Gujarat. Site of origin of lateral circumflex femoral artery was identified and noted. The distance of origin of the artery from the origin of profunda femoris artery was measured and noted. Circumference at the level of origin was measured and diameter was calculated. Collected data was analysed by standard statistical formulas with the help of Microsoft excel 2013 and Epi info 7TM software.Results: 90.19% lateral circumflex femoral arteries originated from the profunda femoris artery and remaining 9.81% from the femoral artery. The mean distance of origin of the artery from the origin of profunda femoris artery was 18.44 mm. Lateral circumflex femoral artery circumference and diameter were significantly different between male and female (95% confidence interval, P <0.05).Conclusion: In this presented study maximum distance of origin of the artery from the origin was 65 mm while minimum distance of origin was 6 mm. In addition difference in circumference of the artery was statistically significant.

    Tinea incognito with unjustified use of potent Topical Corticosteroids: a case series

    Topical corticosteroids prescribed for various dermatological conditions, if used haphazardly have their adverse effects too, like aggravation of underlying infections - tinea, herpes etc. Tinea incognito is a fungal infection of skin masked and often exacerbated by application of topical immunosuppressive or steroid agent. Tinea incognito results because local physicians/chemists might mistake tinea with a simple rash. Availability of a topical steroid cream as an over the counter (OTC) drug is also one of the causes. Once it is diagnosed (clinically with or without KOH mount preparation), it should be thoroughly treated with oral and topical antifungal agents. Four cases presenting to Dermatology OPD VSGH with chief complaints of itching and aggravation of existing lesions due to application of potent topical corticosteroids like Clobetasol and Beclomethasone have been discussed here. They were diagnosed as cases of Topical Corticosteroids induced Tinea Incognito. The patients were recovering with oral and topical antifungals prescribed by dermatologist. These were also reported to nearest ADR Monitoring Centre under PvPI with Probable causality according to WHO UMC Criteria for Causality Assessment. The wide use of topical corticosteroids is due to its immediate symptomatic relief. However, the normal presentation of superficial infection gets altered with their inappropriate use. Lack of awareness among population, steroid abuse by local physicians or no strict regulations for local chemist shops have led to its inappropriate use. Its incidence ranges from 5-15%. These figures point towards the fact that implementation of appropriate regulations for the safe use of topical corticosteroids is essential

    Automatic quantitative analysis of microstructure of ductile cast iron using digital image processing

    Ductile cast iron is preferred as nodular iron or spheroidal graphite iron. Ductile cast iron contains graphite in form of discrete nodules and matrix of ferrite and perlite. In order to determine the mechanical properties, one needs to determine volume of phases in matrix and nodularity in the microstructure of metal sample. Manual methods available for this, are time consuming and accuracy depends on expertize. The paper proposes a novel method for automatic quantitative analysis of microstructure of Ferritic Pearlitic Ductile Iron which calculates volume of phases and nodularity of that sample. This gives results within a very short time (approximately 5 sec) with 98% accuracy for volume phases of matrices and 90% of accuracy for nodule detection and analysis which are in the range of standard specified for SG 500/7 and validated by metallurgist
