    A graph partition problem

    Given a graph GG on nn vertices, for which mm is it possible to partition the edge set of the mm-fold complete graph mKnmK_n into copies of GG? We show that there is an integer m0m_0, which we call the \emph{partition modulus of GG}, such that the set M(G)M(G) of values of mm for which such a partition exists consists of all but finitely many multiples of m0m_0. Trivial divisibility conditions derived from GG give an integer m1m_1 which divides m0m_0; we call the quotient m0/m1m_0/m_1 the \emph{partition index of GG}. It seems that most graphs GG have partition index equal to 11, but we give two infinite families of graphs for which this is not true. We also compute M(G)M(G) for various graphs, and outline some connections between our problem and the existence of designs of various types

    A Panchromatic View of Brown Dwarf Aurorae

    Stellar coronal activity has been shown to persist into the low-mass star regime, down to late M-dwarf spectral types. However, there is now an accumulation of evidence suggesting that at the end of the main sequence there is a transition in the nature of the magnetic activity from chromospheric and coronal to planet-like and auroral, from local impulsive heating via flares and MHD wave dissipation to energy dissipation from strong large-scale magnetospheric current systems. We examine this transition and the prevalence of auroral activity in brown dwarfs through a compilation of multi-wavelength surveys of magnetic activity, including radio, X-ray, and optical. We compile the results of those surveys and place their conclusions in the context of auroral emission as the consequence of large-scale magnetospheric current systems that accelerate energetic electron beams and drive the particles to impact the cool atmospheric gas. We explore the different manifestation of auroral phenomena in brown dwarf atmospheres, like Hα\alpha, and define their distinguishing characteristics. We conclude that large amplitude photometric variability in the near infrared is most likely a consequence of clouds in brown dwarf atmospheres, but that auroral activity may be responsible for long-lived stable surface features. We report a connection between auroral Hα\alpha emission and quiescent radio emission in ECMI pulsing brown dwarfs, suggesting a potential underlying physical connection between the quiescent and auroral emissions.     Nucleon spin structure at very high-x

    Dyson-Schwinger equation treatments of the strong interaction show that the presence and importance of nonpointlike diquark correlations within the nucleon are a natural consequence of dynamical chiral symmetry breaking. Using this foundation, we deduce a collection of simple formulae, expressed in terms of diquark appearance and mixing probabilities, from which one may compute ratios of longitudinal-spin-dependent u- and d-quark parton distribution functions on the domain x =1. A comparison with predictions from other approaches plus a consideration of extant and planned experiments shows that the measurement of nucleon longitudinal spin asymmetries on x =1 can add considerably to our capacity for discriminating between contemporary pictures of nucleon structure.Comment: 6 pages, 1 table, 3 figures.     The Ultraviolet Luminosity Density of the Universe from Photometric Redshifts of Galaxies in the Hubble Deep Field

    Studies of the Hubble Deep Field (HDF) and other deep surveys have revealed an apparent peak in the ultraviolet (UV) luminosity density, and therefore the star-formation rate density, of the Universe at redshifts 1<z<2. We use photometric redshifts of galaxies in the HDF to determine the comoving UV luminosity density and find that, when errors (in particular, sampling error) are properly accounted for, a flat distribution is statistically indistinguishable from a distribution peaked at z~1.5. Furthermore, we examine the effects of cosmological surface brightness (SB) dimming on these measurements by applying a uniform SB cut to all galaxy fluxes after correcting them to redshift z=5. We find that, comparing all galaxies at the same intrinsic surface brightness sensitivity, the UV luminosity density contributed by high intrinsic SB regions increases by almost two orders of magnitude from z~0 to z~5. This suggests that there exists a population of objects with very high star formation rates at high redshifts that apparently do not exist at low redshifts. Fisheries is a highly multidisciplinary subject and, in order to have a successful professional career in the field of fisheries, one should become familiar with a variety of subjects other than Zoology, like Aquaculture, Fishery Biology, Oceanography, Limnology, Processing Technology, Fisheries Economics, Fisheries Statistics etc. It was felt that professional degree programmes in fisheries at the University level similar to the graduate and post-graduate programmes in Agriculture, Veterinary & Animal Sciences, should be started in the fisheries sector also in order to provide the much needed technical manpower in this sector. As per the Kerala Agricultural University Act, 1972, fisheries education comes under the purview of the Kerala Agricultural University
