Hydrodynamic modeling of deconfinement phase transition in nuclear collisions
The (3+1)-dimensional ideal hydrodynamics is used to simulate collisions of
gold nuclei with bombarding energies from 1 to 160 GeV per nucleon. The initial
state is represented by two cold Lorentz-boosted nuclei. Two equations of
state: with and without the deconfinement phase transition are used. We have
investigated dynamical trajectories of compressed baryon-rich matter as
functions of various thermodynamical variables. The parameters of collective
flow and hadronic spectra are calculated. It is shown that presence of the
deconfinement phase transition leads to increase of the elliptic flow and to
flattening of proton rapidity distributions.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure
Studies of multiplicity in relativistic heavy-ion collisions
In this talk I'll review the present status of charged particle multiplicity
measurements from heavy-ion collisions. The characteristic features of
multiplicity distributions obtained in Au+Au collisions will be discussed in
terms of collision centrality and energy and compared to those of p+p
collisions. Multiplicity measurements of d+Au collisions at 200 GeV
nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy will also be discussed. The results will
be compared to various theoretical models and simple scaling properties of the
data will be identified.Comment: "Focus on Multiplicity" Internationsl Workshop on Particle

Hadron production in heavy ion collisions: Fragmentation and recombination from a dense parton phase
We discuss hadron production in heavy ion collisions at RHIC. We argue that
hadrons at transverse momenta P_T < 5 GeV are formed by recombination of
partons from the dense parton phase created in central collisions at RHIC. We
provide a theoretical description of the recombination process for P_T > 2 GeV.
Below P_T = 2 GeV our results smoothly match a purely statistical description.
At high transverse momentum hadron production is well described in the language
of perturbative QCD by the fragmentation of partons. We give numerical results
for a variety of hadron spectra, ratios and nuclear suppression factors. We
also discuss the anisotropic flow v_2 and give results based on a flow in the
parton phase. Our results are consistent with the existence of a parton phase
at RHIC hadronizing at a temperature of 175 MeV and a radial flow velocity of
0.55c.Comment: 25 pages LaTeX, 18 figures; v2: some references updated; v3: some

Laying the groundwork at the AGS: Recent results from experiment E895
The E895 Collaboration at the Brookhaven AGS has performed a systematic
investigation of Au+Au collisions at 2-8 AGeV, using a large-acceptance Time
Projection Chamber. In addition to extensive measurements of particle flow,
spectra, two-particle interferometry, and strangeness production, we have
performed novel hybrid analyses, including azimuthally-sensitive pion HBT,
extraction of the six-dimensional pion phasespace density, and a first
measurement of the Lambda-proton correlation function.Comment: Presented at Quark Matter 2001, 8 pages, 5 figure
Charged Pion Production in 2 to 8 AGeV Central Au+Au Collisions
Momentum spectra of charged pions over nearly full rapidity coverage from
target to beam rapidity have been measured in the 0-5% most central Au+Au
collisions in the beam energy range from 2 to 8 AGeV by the E895 Experiment.
Using a thermal parameterization to fit the transverse mass spectra, rapidity
density distributions are extracted. The observed spectra are compared with
predictions from the RQMD v2.3 cascade model and also to a thermal model
including longitudinal flow. The total 4 yields of the charged pions are
used to infer an initial state entropy produced in the collisions.Comment: 13 pgs, 19 figs, accepted by Phys. Rev. C. Data tables available at

Longitudinal Flow of Protons from 2-8 AGeV Central Au+Au Collisions
Rapidity distributions of protons from central Au + Au
collisions measured by the E895 Collaboration in the energy range from 2 to 8
AGeV at the Brookhaven AGS are presented. Longitudinal flow parameters derived
using a thermal model including collective longitudinal expansion are extracted
from these distributions. The results show an approximately linear increase in
the longitudinal flow velocity, , as a function of the
logarithm of beam energy.Comment: 5 Pages, including 3 figures, 1 tabl
