Author Institution: Space Science Laboratory, General Electric Company; Cryogenic Laboratory, The Ohio State UniversityThe infrared absorption spectra of magnesium fluoride and magnesium chloride isolated in solid krypton and argon matrices have been investigated from 240−4000cm−1240-4000 cm^{-1}. The molecules were generated in a high temperature cell and trapped at liquid H2H_{2} and He temperatures. The spectrum of MgF2MgF_{2} indicates that the apex angle F---Mg---F is 160∘±20∘160^{\circ} \pm 20^{\circ}. Complete assignment and other details will be discussed

Author Institution: Cryogenic Laboratory, The Ohio State University; Space Science Laboratory, General Electric company; Molecular Spectroscopy Section, National Bureau of Standards“The infrared absorption spectra of LiO, Li2OLi_{2}O AND Li2O2Li_{2}O_{2} isolated in solid krypton matrices have been investigated from 300−1000  cm−1300-1000\;cm^{-1}. The molecules were generated by vaporising solid Li2OLi_{2}O in it high temperature effusion cell and trapped in solid krypton matrices at approximately 4∘K4^{\circ} K and 20∘K20^{\circ} K. The spectrum indicates that Li2OLi_{2}O is almost linear and Li2O2Li_{2}O_{2} is rhombic with an angle of 116∘116^{\circ} at Li atom. On the basis of ionic model the equilibrium angle is found to be 118∘118^{\circ}. The similarity of Lithium Oxide dimer to Lithium Chloride dimer, along with other details will be discussed.
