    Direct-write, focused ion beam-deposited,7 K superconducting C-Ga-O nanowire

We have fabricated C-Ga-O nanowires by gallium focused ion beam-induced deposition from the carbon-based precursor phenanthrene. The electrical conductivity of the nanowires is weakly temperature dependent below 300 K, and indicates a transition to a superconducting state below Tc = 7 K. We have measured the temperature dependence of the upper critical field Hc2(T), and estimate a zero temperature critical field of 8.8 T. The Tc of this material is approximately 40% higher than that of any other direct write nanowire, such as those based on C-W-Ga, expanding the possibility of fabricating direct-write nanostructures that superconduct above liquid helium temperaturesComment: Accepted for AP

GOES I/M image navigation and registration

    Get PDF
Image Navigation and Registration (INR) is the system that will be used on future Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) missions to locate and register radiometric imagery data. It consists of a semiclosed loop system with a ground-based segment that generates coefficients to perform image motion compensation (IMC). The IMC coefficients are uplinked to the satellite-based segment, where they are used to adjust the displacement of the imagery data due to movement of the imaging instrument line-of-sight. The flight dynamics aspects of the INR system is discussed in terms of the attitude and orbit determination, attitude pointing, and attitude and orbit control needed to perform INR. The modeling used in the determination of orbit and attitude is discussed, along with the method of on-orbit control used in the INR system, and various factors that affect stability. Also discussed are potential error sources inherent in the INR system and the operational methods of compensating for these errors

Non Abelian Sugawara Construction and the q-deformed N=2 Superconformal Algebra

The construction of a q-deformed N=2 superconformal algebra is proposed in terms of level 1 currents of Uq(su^(2)){\cal{U}}_{q} ({\widehat{su}}(2)) quantum affine Lie algebra and a single real Fermi field. In particular, it suggests the expression for the q-deformed Energy-Momentum tensor in the Sugawara form. Its constituents generate two isomorphic quadratic algebraic structures. The generalization to Uq(su^(N+1)){\cal{U}}_{q} ({\widehat{su}}(N+1)) is also proposed.Comment: AMSLATEX, 21page

A Labelling Scheme for Higher Dimensional Simplex Equations

    Get PDF
We present a succinct way of obtaining all possible higher dimensional generalization of Quantum Yang-Baxter Equation (QYBE). Using the scheme, we could generate the two popular three-simplex equations, namely: Zamolodchikov's tetrahedron equation (ZTE) and Frenkel and Moore equation (FME).Comment: To appear as a Letter to the Editor in J. The Normal State Resistivity of Grain Boundaries in YBa2Cu3O7-delta

Using an optimized bridge geometry we have been able to make accurate measurements of the properties of YBa2Cu3O7-delta grain boundaries above Tc. The results show a strong dependence of the change of resistance with temperature on grain boundary angle. Analysis of our results in the context of band-bending allows us to estimate the height of the potential barrier present at the grain boundary interface.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figure

Constraints and Period Relations in Bosonic Strings at Genus-g

We examine some of the implications of implementing the usual boundary conditions on the closed bosonic string in the hamiltonian framework. Using the KN formalism, it is shown that at the quantum level, the resulting constraints lead to relations among the periods of the basis 1-forms. These are compared with those of Riemanns' which arise from a different consideration.Comment: 16 pages, (Plain Tex), NUS/HEP/9320

Orbital Magnetism of 2D Chaotic Lattices

We study the orbital magnetism of 2D lattices with chaotic motion of electrons withing a primitive cell. Using the temperature diagrammatic technique we evaluate the averaged value and rms fluctuation of magnetic response in the diffusive regime withing the model of non-interacting electrons. The fluctuations of magnetic susceptibility turn out to be large and at low temperature can be of the order of χL(kFl)3/2\chi_{L} (k_{F}l)^{3/2}, where kFk_{F} is the Fermi wavevector, ll is the mean free path, and χL\chi_{L} is the Landau susceptibility. In the certain region of magnetic fields the paramagnetic contribution to the averaged response is field independent and larger than the absolute value of Landau response.Comment: 6 pages, Latex file, figures available upon reques
