Composição botânica da dieta de bovinos em vegetação típica de caatinga sob diferentes taxas de lotação.

Uma grande extensão territorial da região semi-árida do Nordeste do Brasil é constituída de pastagem natural do tipo caatinga, caracterizada por estrato dominante de vegetação arbustivo-arbórea, com pouco estrato herbáceo. Durante o perído das chuvas, quando ocorrem o desenvolvimento e produção das plantas, a fitomassa disponível é bastante diversa nos três estratos; entretanto, no período de estiagem, a disponibilidade fica bastante reduzida. O objetivo deste trabalho foi a determinação da composição botânica da dieta anual de bovinos, em vegetação típica de caatinga, sob diferentes intensidades de pastejo. Uma área de 360 hectares foi dividida em piquetes de 80, 60 e 40 ha, onde se utilizou as taxas de lotação leve, moderada e pesada, correspondendo a um animal adulto para 13,3, 10,0 e 6,6 hectares, respectivamente, com duas repetições. A composição botânica das dietas foi determinada pela análise de material fecal, usando a técnica microhistológica. Trinta espécies foram identificadas em mais de 90% da dieta anual dos bovinos. A seleção dos arbustos, para várias espécies, foi mais consistente do que a seleção das herbáceas, o que provavelmente foi influenciado pela característica arbusto-arbórea da área experimental, além da disponibilidade e fenologia. O arbusto mais consistentemente selecionado foi Mimosa tenuiflora Wiilld., seguido de Solanum chaetacanthum Dun., Tabebuia spongiosa Rizinni, e Calliandra depauperata Benth. Apesar de escassez de gramíneas, houve contribuição bastante expressiva de outras espécies do estrato herbáceo na dieta anual dos animais. As plantas herbáceas mais selecionadas foram a Sida cordifolia L., Sida galheirensis Ulbr., Macropitilium martii Benth. e Croton glandulosus (L. em) Muell. Arg. Diferenças na pressão de pastejo, causada pela variação na taxa de lotação, não foram suficiente para afetar significativamente a seleção da dieta. Combining exclusive semi-leptonic and hadronic B decays to measure |V_ub|

The Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |V_ub| can be extracted from the rate for the semi-leptonic decay B -> pi + l + antineutrino_l, with little theoretical uncertainty, provided the hadronic form factor for the B -> pi transition can be measured from some other B decay. In here, we suggest using the decay B -> pi J\psi. This is a color suppressed decay, and it cannot be properly described within the usual factorization approximation; we use instead a simple and very general phenomenological model for the b d J\psi vertex. In order to relate the hadronic form factors in the B -> pi J\psi and B -> pi + l + antineutrino_l decays, we use form factor relations that hold for heavy-to-light transitions at large recoil.Comment: Latex, 7 pages, no figure

Anisotropy and percolation threshold in a multifractal support

Recently a multifractal object, $Q_{mf}$, was proposed to study percolation properties in a multifractal support. The area and the number of neighbors of the blocks of $Q_{mf}$ show a non-trivial behavior. The value of the probability of occupation at the percolation threshold, $p_{c}$, is a function of $\rho$, a parameter of $Q_{mf}$ which is related to its anisotropy. We investigate the relation between $p_{c}$ and the average number of neighbors of the blocks as well as the anisotropy of $Q_{mf}$

The preparation of music teachers in Brazil and England: reflections on teaching practice models

This paper examines and compares teaching practice models of three music teacher training courses originating from Brazil and England, as well as addressing issues regarding the initial preparation of the music teacher in both countries. Activity theory was employed as a theoretical framework to explain the related factors involved in both models’ implementation. A number of challenges were indentified such as: (i) how to balance the theoretical and practical dimensions of the curriculum; (ii) the quest for mechanisms for the transferral of the pedagogical and musical instrument knowledge acquired by students to music teaching practice contexts; and (iii) the absence of a specialist music teacher as mentors in some educational contexts. Findings showed that there is diversity in teaching practice models due to different educational and technological contexts employed

Group theory for structural analysis and lattice vibrations in phosphorene systems

Group theory analysis for two-dimensional elemental systems related to phosphorene is presented, including (i) graphene, silicene, germanene and stanene, (ii) dependence on the number of layers and (iii) two stacking arrangements. Departing from the most symmetric $D_{6h}^{1}$ graphene space group, the structures are found to have a group-subgroup relation, and analysis of the irreducible representations of their lattice vibrations makes it possible to distinguish between the different allotropes. The analysis can be used to study the effect of strain, to understand structural phase transitions, to characterize the number of layers, crystallographic orientation and nonlinear phenomena.Comment: 24 pages, 3 figure
