    Revitalisation endodontic treatment of traumatised immature teeth: a prospective long-term clinical study

    Purpose Continuation of root development following revitalisation endodontics (RET) has been shown to be unpredictable with lower success rates in traumatised teeth. This study reports the outcomes for RET in traumatised teeth over a review period of 4 years. Methods A prospective uncontrolled study, where RET was performed on traumatised upper immature anterior teeth with necrotic pulps in 15 children (mean age = 8.3 years), was conducted. Patients were reviewed at 3, 9, 12, 24, and 48 months, where clinical and radiographic assessments were performed. At the last review appointment, patients and parents answered questions assessing their perception and acceptance of tooth colour change over time. McNemar’s Exact test and linear mixed model assessment were used to assess changes in pulpal electrical response and radiographic evidence of continuation of root development over time, respectively. Results There was 83.3% healing with no significant changes in EPT responses, and no significant changes in root lengths, while significant changes in root widths (p < 0.05) and root apex widths (p < 0.001) were found over time. Twenty-five percent of patients and 33% of parents felt that there were changes in tooth colour following RET over time. Conclusion Within the limitations of this study, traumatised teeth treated using RET showed no significant root lengthening, however, acceptable periapical healing, slow thickening of root dentinal walls, and rapid development of apical closure were evident over a period of 43 months.     Healthcare utilisation in overweight and obese children: a systematic review and meta-analysis

    Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to systematically analyse the association of overweight and obesity with health service utilisation during childhood. Data sources: PubMed, MEDLINE, CINAHL, EMBASE and Web of Science. Methods: Observational studies published up to May 2020 that assessed the impact of overweight and obesity on healthcare utilisation in children and adolescents were included. Studies were eligible for inclusion if the included participants were ≤19 years of age. Findings from all included studies were summarised narratively. In addition, rate ratios (RRs) and 95% CIs were calculated in a meta-analysis on a subgroup of eligible studies. Outcome measures: Included studies reported association of weight status with healthcare utilisation measures of outpatient visits, emergency department (ED) visits, general practitioner visits, hospital admissions and hospital length of stay. Results: Thirty-three studies were included in the review. When synthesising the findings from all studies narratively, obesity and overweight were found to be positively associated with increased healthcare utilisation in children for all the outcome measures. Six studies reported sufficient data to meta-analyse association of weight with outpatient visits. Five studies were included in a separate meta-analysis for the outcome measure of ED visits. In comparison with normal-weight children, rates of ED (RR 1.34, 95% CI 1.07 to 1.68) and outpatient visits (RR 1.11, 95% CI 1.02 to 1.20) were significantly higher in obese children. The rates of ED and outpatient visits by overweight children were only slightly higher and non-significant compared with normal-weight children. Conclusions: Obesity in children is associated with increased healthcare utilisation. Future research should assess the impact of ethnicity and obesity-associated health conditions on increased healthcare utilisation in children with overweight and obesity.     Massively parallel RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) has rapidly become the assay of choice for interrogating RNA transcript abundance and diversity. This article provides a detailed introduction to fundamental RNA-seq molecular biology and informatics concepts. We make available open-access RNA-seq tutorials that cover cloud computing, tool installation, relevant file formats, reference genomes, transcriptome annotations, quality-control strategies, expression, differential expression, and alternative splicing analysis methods. These tutorials and additional training resources are accompanied by complete analysis pipelines and test datasets made available without encumbrance at www.rnaseq.wiki

    Phenylcyanamidocopper(I) and silver(I) complexes of the type, [{M(PPh3)2L}2] (M = Cu, L = 4-NO2pcyd or 4-Me2Npcyd; M = Ag, L = 4-Me2Npcyd), [Cu(PPh3)3L] (L = pcyd or 4-NO2-pcyd), [Ag-(PPh3)3L] (L = pcyd, 2-Clpcyd, 4-Clpcyd, 4-Brpcyd, 4-MeOpcyd, 4-NO2pcyd or 4-Me2Npcyd), [Ag(Me2phen)(2-Clpcyd)] (Me2phen = 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline) and [Ag(dppm)(4-Brpcyd)] (dppm = bis(diphenylphosphino)methane) have been synthesised and characterised and the crystal structures of four of the complexes determined. For both [{Cu(PPh3)2(4-Me2Npcyd)}2] â‹… CH2Cl2 and [{Ag(PPh3)2(4-Me2Npcyd)}2], the cyanamide ligands bridge the metal atoms in a &mu;-1,3-fashion through the cyano and amido nitrogens. Each metal atom has a distorted tetrahedral geometry, being bound to two triphenylphosphine phosphorus atoms and two nitro-gen atoms from 4-Me2Npcyd ligands to give a \u27P2N2\u27 coordination sphere. In the case of the Cu complex the dimer is centrosymmetric but for the Ag complex the metal atoms are not equivalent. The complexes, [Ag(PPh3)3(4-Brpcyd)] and [Ag(PPh3)3(4-Me-Opcyd)], are discrete monomers, in which each of the Ag atoms adopts a distorted tetrahedral geometry, being bound to three triphenylphosphine phosphorus atoms and one phenylcyanamide ligand binding in a terminal fashion through the cyano nitrogen
