    Description of self-synchronization effects in distributed Josephson junction arrays using harmonic analysis and power balance

    Power generation and synchronisation in Josephson junction arrays have attracted attention for a long time. This stems from fundamental interest in nonlinear coupled systems as well as from potential in practical applications. In this paper we study the case of an array of junctions coupled to a distributed transmission line either driven by an external microwave or in a self-oscillating mode. We simplify the theoretical treatment in terms of harmonic analysis and power balance. We apply the model to explain the large operation margins of SNS- and SINIS-junction arrays. We show the validity of the approach by comparing with experiments and simulations with self-oscillating es-SIS junction arrays.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

    Wagner's hypothesis: a local perspective

    Wagner's hypothesis of an expanding public sector as an economy develops is tested using pooled time-series cross-sectional data for U.S. states from 1964 to 1986. Comparing government size among fiscal jurisdictions within a single nation reduces the problems of data comparability and of controlling for cultural and institutional differences that plague the more common international tests of this theory. Our results are inconsistent with Wagner's hypothesis, yielding a negative relationship between public-sector size and output.     On the theoretical uncertainties in the muon anomalous magnetic moment

    I present a fairly detailed discussion of various contributions to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon a_mu. I try to give an unbiased evaluation of the validity of the SM prediction for this quantity and to point out some delicate issues involved in its calculation. I conclude that the theory uncertainties in the SM prediction for the muon anomalous magnetic moment are underestimated and a great deal of work will be required to reduce these uncertainties to the level required by experiment.Comment: 12 pages, revte
