The E-peak distribution of the GRBs detected by HETE FREGATE instrument
The FREGATE gamma ray detector of HETE-2 is sensitive to photons between 6
and 400 keV. This sensitivity range, extended towards low energies, allows us
to explore the emission of GRBs in hard X-rays. We fit the spectra of 23 GRBs
with Band's spectral function in order to derive the distribution of their peak
energies (E-peak). This distribution is then compared with the E-peak
distributions measured by BATSE and GINGA.Comment: 3 pages, Woods Hole Proceeding
In flight performance and first results of FREGATE
The gamma-ray detector of HETE-2, called FREGATE, has been designed to detect
gamma-ray bursts in the energy range [6-400] keV. Its main task is to alert the
other instruments of the occurrence of a gamma-ray burst (GRB) and to provide
the spectral coverage of the GRB prompt emission in hard X-rays and soft
gamma-rays. FREGATE was switched on on October 16, 2000, one week after the
successful launch of HETE-2, and has been continuously working since then. We
describe here the main characteristics of the instrument, its in-flight

X-ray afterglow detection of the short gamma-ray burst 991014
GRB 991014 is one of the shortest gamma-ray bursts detected so far with the
Wide Field Cameras aboard BeppoSAX, both in gamma-rays and X-rays. The duration
is 9.6 sec in 2-28 keV and 3.2 sec in 40 to 700 keV (as measured between the
times when 5 and 95% of the burst photons have been accumulated). We refine the
InterPlanetary Network annulus of the burst, present the detection of the X-ray
afterglow of GRB 991014 within this refined annulus, and discuss X-ray and
gamma-ray observations of the prompt and afterglow emission. Except for the
briefness of the prompt event, no other unusual aspects were found in the
prompt and afterglow observations as compared to such measurements in previous

Spectral analysis of 35 GRBs/XRFs observed with HETE-2/FREGATE
We present a spectral analysis of 35 GRBs detected with the HETE-2 gamma-ray
detectors (the FREGATE instrument) in the energy range 7-400 keV. The GRB
sample analyzed is made of GRBs localized with the Wide Field X-ray Monitor
onboard HETE-2 or with the GRB Interplanetary Network. We derive the spectral
parameters of the time-integrated spectra, and present the distribution of the
low-energy photon index, alpha, and of the peak energy, e_peak . We then
discuss the existence and nature of the recently discovered X-Ray Flashes and

Spectrum and Variability of Mrk501 as observed by the CAT Imaging Telescope
The CAT Imaging Telescope has observed the BL Lac object Markarian 501
between March and August 1997. We report here on the variability over this time
including several large flares. We present also preliminary spectra for all
