Higgs bosons of a supersymmetric E6E_6 model at the Large Hadron Collider

It is found that CP symmetry may be explicitly broken in the Higgs sector of a supersymmetric E6E_6 model with two extra neutral gauge bosons at the one-loop level. The phenomenology of the model, the Higgs sector in particular, is studied for a reasonable parameter space of the model, in the presence of explicit CP violation at the one-loop level. At least one of the neutral Higgs bosons of the model might be produced via the WWWW fusion process at the Large Hadron Collider.Comment: 23 pages, 5 figures, JHE

Gregory-Laflamme instability of a slowly rotating black string

We study the Gregory-Laflamme instability of a 5-dimensional slowly rotating black string in which the 4-dimensional section is described by the Kerr black hole. We treat the rotation in a perturbative way introducing a small parameter for the rotation. It is found that rotation makes the Gregory-Laflamme instability stronger. Both the critical wavelength at the onset of instability and the growth time-scale are found to decrease as the rotation increases.Comment: 26 pages, 1 figur

Unsupervised Holistic Image Generation from Key Local Patches

We introduce a new problem of generating an image based on a small number of key local patches without any geometric prior. In this work, key local patches are defined as informative regions of the target object or scene. This is a challenging problem since it requires generating realistic images and predicting locations of parts at the same time. We construct adversarial networks to tackle this problem. A generator network generates a fake image as well as a mask based on the encoder-decoder framework. On the other hand, a discriminator network aims to detect fake images. The network is trained with three losses to consider spatial, appearance, and adversarial information. The spatial loss determines whether the locations of predicted parts are correct. Input patches are restored in the output image without much modification due to the appearance loss. The adversarial loss ensures output images are realistic. The proposed network is trained without supervisory signals since no labels of key parts are required. Experimental results on six datasets demonstrate that the proposed algorithm performs favorably on challenging objects and scenes.Comment: 16 page

Electroneutrality and the Friedel sum rule in a Luttinger liquid

Screening in one-dimensional metals is studied for arbitrary electron-electron interactions. It is shown that for finite-range interactions (Luttinger liquid) electroneutrality is violated. This apparent inconsistency can be traced to the presence of external screening gates responsible for the effectively short-ranged Coulomb interactions. We also draw attention to the breakdown of linear screening for wavevectors close to 2 K_f.Comment: 4 pages REVTeX, incl one figure, to appear in Phys.Rev.Let

Search for axion-like particles using a variable baseline photon regeneration technique

We report the first results of the GammeV experiment, a search for milli-eV mass particles with axion-like couplings to two photons. The search is performed using a "light shining through a wall" technique where incident photons oscillate into new weakly interacting particles that are able to pass through the wall and subsequently regenerate back into detectable photons. The oscillation baseline of the apparatus is variable, thus allowing probes of different values of particle mass. We find no excess of events above background and are able to constrain the two-photon couplings of possible new scalar (pseudoscalar) particles to be less than 3.1x10^{-7} GeV^{-1} (3.5x10^{-7} GeV^{-1}) in the limit of massless particles.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures. A unified Erd\H{o}s-P\'{o}sa theorem for cycles in graphs labelled by multiple abelian groups

In 1965, Erd\H{o}s and P\'{o}sa proved that there is a duality between the maximum size of a packing of cycles and the minimum size of a vertex set hitting all cycles. Such a duality does not hold for odd cycles, and Dejter and Neumann-Lara asked in 1988 to find all pairs (,z){(\ell, z)} of integers where such a duality holds for the family of cycles of length \ell modulo zz. We characterise all such pairs, and we further generalise this characterisation to cycles in graphs labelled with a bounded number of abelian groups, whose values avoid a bounded number of elements of each group. This unifies almost all known types of cycles that admit such a duality, and it also provides new results. Moreover, we characterise the obstructions to such a duality in this setting, and thereby obtain an analogous characterisation for cycles in graphs embeddable on a fixed compact orientable surface.Comment: 37 pages, 2 figure

Some entanglement features of three-atoms Tavis-Cummings model: Cooperative case

In this paper we consider a system of identical three two-level atoms interacting at resonance with a single-mode of the quantized field in a lossless cavity. The initial cavity field is prepared in the coherent state while the atoms are taken initially to be either in the uppermost excited state "eee>|eee>" or The GHZ\textmd{GHZ}-state or the W\textmd{W}-state. For this system we investigate different kinds of atomic inversion and entanglement, which arise between the different parts of the system due to the interaction. Also the relationship, between entanglement and some other nonclassical effects in the statistical properties, such as collapses and revivals in the atomic inversion where superharmonic effects appear, is discussed. The QQ-functions for different cases are discussed. Most remarkably it is found that the GHZ\textmd{GHZ}-state is more robust against energy losses, showing almost coherent trapping and Schr\"odinger-cat states can not be produced from such state. Also the entanglement of GHZ\textmd{GHZ}-state is more robust than the W\textmd{W}-state. Another interesting feature found is that the state which has no pairwise entanglement initially will have a much improvement of such pairwise entanglement through the evolution. Sudden death and sudden revival of atoms-pairwise entanglement are produced with the W\textmd{W}-state.Comment: 14 pages, 7 figure

Conditional Intensity and Gibbsianness of Determinantal Point Processes

    Get PDF
The Papangelou intensities of determinantal (or fermion) point processes are investigated. These exhibit a monotonicity property expressing the repulsive nature of the interaction, and satisfy a bound implying stochastic domination by a Poisson point process. We also show that determinantal point processes satisfy the so-called condition (Σλ)(\Sigma_{\lambda}) which is a general form of Gibbsianness. Under a continuity assumption, the Gibbsian conditional probabilities can be identified explicitly.Comment: revised and extende
