Anisotropic properties of MgB2 by torque magnetometry
Anisotropic properties of superconducting MgB2 obtained by torque
magnetometry are compared to theoretical predictions, concentrating on two
issues. Firstly, the angular dependence of Hc2 is shown to deviate close to Tc
from the dependence assumed by anisotropic Ginzburg-Landau theory. Secondly,
from the evaluation of torque vs angle curves it is concluded that the
anisotropy of the penetration depth gamma_lambda has to be substantially higher
at low temperature than theoretical estimates, at least in fields higher than
0.2 T.Comment: 2 p.,2 Fig., submitted to Physica C (M2S-Rio proceedings); v2: 1 ref

Infrared properties of MgAlBC) single crystals in the normal and superconducting state
The reflectivity of -oriented MgAl(BC) single crystals has been measured by means of infrared
microspectroscopy for cm. An increase with doping of
the scattering rates in the and bands is observed, being more
pronounced in the C doped crystals. The -band plasma frequency also
changes with doping due to the electron doping, while the -band one is
almost unchanged. Moreover, a interband excitation, predicted
by theory, is observed at eV in the undoped sample,
and shifts to lower energies with doping. By performing theoretical calculation
of the doping dependence , the experimental observations can be
explained with the increase with electron doping of the Fermi energy of the
holes in the -band. On the other hand, the band density of
states seems not to change substantially. This points towards a reduction
driven mainly by disorder, at least for the doping level studied here. The
superconducting state has been also probed by infrared synchrotron radiation
for cm in one pure and one C-doped sample. In the
undoped sample ( = 38.5 K) a signature of the -gap only is observed.
At = 0.08 ( = 31.9 K), the presence of the contribution of the
-gap indicates dirty-limit superconductivity in both bands.Comment: 12 pages, 9 figure
Vortex Imaging in the pi-Band of Magnesium Diboride
We report scanning tunneling spectroscopy imaging of the vortex lattice in
single crystalline MgB2. By tunneling parallel to the c-axis, a single
superconducting gap (Delta = 2.2 meV) associated with the pi-band is observed.
The vortices in the pi-band have a large core size compared to estimates based
on Hc2, and show an absence of localized states in the core. Furthermore,
superconductivity between the vortices is rapidly suppressed by an applied
field. These results suggest that superconductivity in the pi-band is, at least
partially, induced by the intrinsically superconducting sigma-band.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

Flux flow resistivity in the two-gap superconductivity
We investigate the flux flow state in a two-gap superconductor in which two
s-wave gaps with different amplitudes exist on two separate Fermi surfaces. The
flux flow resistivity is obtained on the basis of the Bardeen-Stephen relation
and the result agrees well with the anomalous field dependence of the flow
resistivity recently observed in the two-gap superconductor MgB2. Some typical
properties of the vortex in this system are also discussed.Comment: 5 pages, 1 figure. Some typos are corrected. Some comments are added.

Blue rubber-bleb naevus syndrome: report of a case with consumption coagulopathy complicated by manifest thrombosis
Abstract
Blue rubber-bleb naevus (BRBN) syndrome is a rare disorder characterized by subcutaneous and gastrointestinal haemangiomas. The latter may lead to bleeding complications. A case is reported in which a process of chronic intravascular coagulation resulted in serious thrombotic complications. In the presence of a chronic consumption coagulopathy, it remains uncertain whether antiplatelet drugs are of prophylactic antithrombotic value
Evidence for Anisotropic Vortex Dynamics and Pauli Limitation in the Upper Critical Field of FeSe1-xTex
We have determined HC2(T) for FeSe1-xTex (x=0.52) single crystals using
resistivity measurements at high static and pulsed magnetic field, as well as
specific heat measurements up to 9T. We find that the significant anisotropy of
the initial slope of HC2(T) determined from resistivity measurements, is not
present when HC2 is determined from the specific heat results. This suggests
that the thermodynamic upper critical field is almost isotropic, and that
anisotropic vortex dynamics play a role. Further evidence of anisotropic vortex
dynamics is found in the behaviour in pulsed field. We also find that Pauli
limiting must be included in order to fit the temperature dependence of HC2,
indicating probably higher effective mass in FeSe1-xTex than in other Fe
superconductors
