Anyonic interferometry without anyons: How a flux qubit can read out a topological qubit
Proposals to measure non-Abelian anyons in a superconductor by quantum
interference of vortices suffer from the predominantly classical dynamics of
the normal core of an Abrikosov vortex. We show how to avoid this obstruction
using coreless Josephson vortices, for which the quantum dynamics has been
demonstrated experimentally. The interferometer is a flux qubit in a Josephson
junction circuit, which can nondestructively read out a topological qubit
stored in a pair of anyons --- even though the Josephson vortices themselves
are not anyons. The flux qubit does not couple to intra-vortex excitations,
thereby removing the dominant restriction on the operating temperature of
anyonic interferometry in superconductors.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures; Added an Appendix on parity-protected

A semismooth newton method for the nearest Euclidean distance matrix problem
The Nearest Euclidean distance matrix problem (NEDM) is a fundamentalcomputational problem in applications such asmultidimensional scaling and molecularconformation from nuclear magnetic resonance data in computational chemistry.Especially in the latter application, the problem is often large scale with the number ofatoms ranging from a few hundreds to a few thousands. In this paper, we introduce asemismooth Newton method that solves the dual problem of (NEDM). We prove that themethod is quadratically convergent. We then present an application of the Newton method to NEDM with -weights.We demonstrate the superior performance of the Newton method over existing methodsincluding the latest quadratic semi-definite programming solver. This research also opens a new avenue towards efficient solution methods for the molecularembedding problem
A characterization of positive linear maps and criteria of entanglement for quantum states
Let and be (finite or infinite dimensional) complex Hilbert spaces. A
characterization of positive completely bounded normal linear maps from
into is given, which particularly gives a
characterization of positive elementary operators including all positive linear
maps between matrix algebras. This characterization is then applied give a
representation of quantum channels (operations) between infinite-dimensional
systems. A necessary and sufficient criterion of separability is give which
shows that a state on is separable if and only if
for all positive finite rank elementary operators
. Examples of NCP and indecomposable positive linear maps are given and
are used to recognize some entangled states that cannot be recognized by the
PPT criterion and the realignment criterion.Comment: 20 page
Entanglement detection beyond the CCNR criterion for infinite-dimensions
In this paper, in terms of the relation between the state and the reduced
states of it, we obtain two inequalities which are valid for all separable
states in infinite-dimensional bipartite quantum systems. One of them provides
an entanglement criterion which is strictly stronger than the computable
cross-norm or realignment (CCNR) criterion.Comment: 11 page
Masses of a Fourth Generation with Two Higgs Doublets
We use sampling techniques to find robust constraints on the masses of a
possible fourth sequential fermion generation from electroweak oblique
variables. We find that in the case of a light (115 GeV) Higgs from a single
electroweak symmetry breaking doublet, inverted mass hierarchies are possible
for both quarks and leptons, but a mass splitting more than M(W) in the quark
sector is unlikely. We also find constraints in the case of a heavy (600 GeV)
Higgs in a single doublet model. As recent data from the Large Hadron Collider
hints at the existence of a resonance at 124.5 GeV and a single Higgs doublet
at that mass is inconsistent with a fourth fermion generation, we examine a
type II two Higgs doublet model. In this model, there are ranges of parameter
space where the Higgs sector can potentially counteract the effects of the
fourth generation. Even so, we find that such scenarios produce qualitatively
similar fermion mass distributions.Comment: v2: 9 pages, 7 figures, improved analysis of Higgs decay constraints,

Is the Top Quark Really Heavier than the Boson?
Scalar induced top decays may drastically suppress

enlarge the scope and study the plane. Specific model

Bosonic Super Liouville System: Lax Pair and Solution
We study the bosonic super Liouville system which is a statistical
transmutation of super Liouville system. Lax pair for the bosonic super
Liouville system is constructed using prolongation method, ensuring the Lax
integrability, and the solution to the equations of motion is also considered
via Leznov-Saveliev analysis.Comment: LaTeX, no figures, 11 page
Tevatron Mass Limits for Heavy Quarks Decaying via Flavor Changing Neutral Current
The dimuon and dielectron data from the Tevatron collider are used
to probe for heavy quarks, which decay dominantly via flavour changing neutral
current. Depending on whether the decay occurs at the tree or loop
level, one gets a lower mass limit of 85 or 75 GeV. The former applies to
singlet, vector doublet and mirror type quarks while the latter applies to a
lefthanded quark doublet of the fourth generation.Comment: 13 pages, TIFR/TH/92-58, Two figures to be supplied on reques
