Estimating cell growth of Listeria monocytogenes in mozzarella cheese using impedimetric device

Celem badań było określenie liczby pałeczek Listeria monocytogenes, którymi zanieczyszczono próbki sera typu mozzarella i przechowywano je w temperaturze: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 21 i 37 °C. Pomiaru wzrostu liczby komórek L. monocytogenes dokonano za pomocą urządzenia Bactometer M64 (bioMérieux), stosując zmodyfikowane, selektywne podłoże mikrobiologiczne. Do podłoża BHI (bioMérieux) wprowadzono dodatek wybiórczy do bulionu Frasera i dodatek wybiórczy amonowo-żelazowy(III) dla Listeria (Merck). Otrzymane wyniki dopasowano do równania Baranyi’a i Robertsa i porównano z modelami prognostycznymi w programie ComBase Predictor. W wyniku przeprowadzonych badań zaobserwowano, że wraz ze wzrostem temperatury przechowywania tempo namnażania patogenu było większe, a wzrost liczby drobnoustroju następował także w warunkach chłodniczych. Zmodyfikowana pożywka mikrobiologiczna umożliwiła ilościowe określanie liczby komórek Listeria z wykorzystaniem urządzenia impedymetrycznego.The objective of the research study was to determine the count of Listeria monocytogenes, used to contaminate the samples of mozzarella cheese that were stored at a temperature of 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 21, and 37 °C. The L. monocytogenes cell growth was measured by a M64 Bactometer device (bioMerieux) using a modified, selective microbiological culture medium. Into the BHI medium (bioMérieux) were added: a selective additive to a Fraser broth and a selective iron (III) ammonium additive for Listeria (Merck). The results obtained were adjusted to match the Baranyi and Roberts equation and compared with the predictive models in ComBase Predictor. Based on the research results obtained, it was found that, along with the increasing storage temperature the rate of proliferation of the pathogen increased, and, also, reported was the increase in the count of organisms under the cooling conditions. The modified culture medium made it possible to determine quantitatively the count of Listeria cells with the use of an impedimetric device

Simvastatin-induced mononeuropathy multiplex: case report Mononeuropatia múltipla induzida por sinvastatina: relato de caso

The association between the use of statins and neuromuscular disease is currently being intensely discussed. We relate a 63 years old man with possible case of statin-induced neuropathy in a patient with dislipidemia in use of simvastatina at high doses. The electrophysiologic studies disclosed findings compatible with mononeuropathy multiplex, suggested by clinical prescutation of asymmetrical numbness and weakness. More common causes of mononeuropathy multiplex were excluded and the patient improved after the discontinuation of the drug.<br>Polineuropatia induzida por estatina é assunto vigente na literatura médica. Relatamos um possível caso de mononeuropatia múltipla induzida pelo uso de sinvastatina em um homem de 63 anos, em uso de sinvastatina. Após o diagnóstico de dislipidemia, iniciou fraqueza e parestesia assimétrica em membros. O estudo eletromiográfico mostrou alterações compatíveis com mononeuropatia múltipla. As causas mais comuns de mononeuropatia múltipla foram descartadas com a realização de exames complementares pertinentes. O paciente melhorou com a descontinuação da sinvastatina
