Dipole-induced vortex ratchets in superconducting films with arrays of micromagnets

We investigate the transport properties of superconducting films with periodic arrays of in-plane magnetized micromagnets. Two different magnetic textures are studied: a square array of magnetic bars and a close-packed array of triangular microrings. As confirmed by MFM imaging, the magnetic state of both systems can be adjusted to produce arrays of almost point-like magnetic dipoles. By carrying out transport measurements with ac drive, we observed experimentally a recently predicted ratchet effect induced by the interaction between superconducting vortices and the magnetic dipoles. Moreover, we find that these magnetic textures produce vortex-antivortex patterns, which have a crucial role on the transport properties of this hybrid system.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

Exploring singlet deflection of gauge mediation

We embed the Next-to Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model into gauge mediation of supersymmetry breaking and study the phenomenology of scenarios where the gauge-mediation contributions to soft parameters are deflected by superpotential interactions of the gauge singlet with the messenger fields and the Higgs doublets. This kind of models provide a satisfactory solution to the mu-b_mu problem of gauge mediation, compatible with the adequate pattern of electroweak symmetry breaking and a realistic spectrum with supersymmetric partners at the TeV scale without requiring a significant fine tuning.Comment: Latex 18 pages, 4 eps figures. A method for solve integrable A2A_2 spin chains combining different representations

    Get PDF
A non homogeneous spin chain in the representations {3} \{3 \} and {3∗} \{3^*\} of A2A_2 is analyzed. We find that the naive nested Bethe ansatz is not applicable to this case. A method inspired in the nested Bethe ansatz, that can be applied to more general cases, is developed for that chain. The solution for the eigenvalues of the trace of the monodromy matrix is given as two coupled Bethe equations different from that for a homogeneous chain. A conjecture about the form of the solutions for more general chains is presented. PACS: 75.10.Jm, 05.50+q 02.20 SvComment: PlainTeX, harvmac, 13 pages, 3 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev.
