Properties of KCoAs and Alloys with Fe and Ru: Density Functional Calculations
Electronic structure calculations are presented for KCoAs and alloys
with KFeAs and KRuAs. These materials show electronic
structures characteristic of coherent alloys, with a similar Fermi surface
structure to that of the Fe-based superconductors, when the electron count
is near six per transition metal. However, they are less magnetic than the
corresponding Fe compounds. These results are discussed in relation to

Electronic Structure and Bulk Spin Valve Behavior in CaRuO
We report density functional calculations of the magnetic properties and
Fermiology of CaRuO. The ground state consists of ferromagnetic
bilayers, stacked antiferromagnetically. The bilayers are almost but not
exactly half-metallic. In the ferromagnetic state opposite spin polarizations
are found for in-plane and out-of-plane transport. Relatively high out of plane
conductivity is found for the majority spin, which is relatively weakly
conductive in-plane. In the ground state in-plane quantities are essentially
the same, but the out of plane transport is strongly reduced.Comment: 5 page
Crystallization of Simple Fluids: Relative Stability of f.c.c. and b.c.c Structures
A free-energy functional for a crystal that contains both the symmetry
conserved and symmetry broken parts of the direct pair correlation function is
developed. The free-energy functional is used to investigate the
crystallization of fluids interacting via the inverse power potential ;
. In agreement with simulation results we find
that for the freezing is into close packed f.c.c structure while for

CFRAMP's large pelagic fish tagging program
CFRAMP\u27s Large Pelagic Fish Tagging Program was established to examine the distribution and movement patterns of Thunnus atlanticus (blackfin tuna), Acanthocybium solandri (wahoo), Coryphaena hippurus (dolphinfish), and Scomberomorus cavalla (king mackerel), large pelagic fish species of commercial importance to several Caribbean countries. The Program explored several means to facilitate fish tag and release activities, involving collaborative partnerships with national fisheries administrations, the recreational fishing sector, and individual commercial fishers. A Iotal of 1,143 fish were tagged and released in the coastal waters of several islands within the Eastern Caribbean: 787 blackfin tuna, 250 wahoo, 89 dolphinfish, and 17 king mackerel. To date, only 13 recaptures have been reported. Eleven (11) blackfin tuna, released in the coastal waters of St Vincent and the Grenadines were recaptured near to, or at original release sites after times at liberty ranging from 5 d to 1,230 d. Similarly, 2 king mackerel, released off the west coast of Trinidad, were recaptured very near original release sites after 74 and 129 d at liberty
Rendering PostScript<sup>TM</sup> fonts on FPGAs
This paper describes how custom computing machines can be used to implement a simple outline font processor. An FPGA based co-processor is used to accelerate the compute intensive portions of font rendering. The font processor builds on several PostScript components previously presented by the authors to produce a system that can rapidly render fonts. A prototype implementation is described followed by an explanation of how this could be extended to build a complete system
Elemental characteristics of aerosols emitted from a coal-fired heating plant
Size differentiated aerosols were collected downstream from a heating plant fueled with eastern coal and analyzed using particle induced X-ray emission technique. Based on aerosol masses collected in various size ranges, the aerosol size distribution is determined to be trimodal, with the three peaks centered at 0.54 microns, 4.0 microns, and 11.0 microns, respectively. Of the various trace elements present in the aerosols, sulphur is the only element that shows very strong concentration in the smallest size group. Iron is strongly concentrated in the 4.0 micron group. Potassium, calcium, and titanium also exhibit stronger concentration in the 4.0 micron group than any other group. Other trace elements - vanadium, chromium, manganese, nickel, copper, and barium - are equally divided between the 0.54 microns and the 4.0 microns groups. Apparently, all of the trace elements - except S - enter aerosols during the initial formation and subsequent condensation phases in the combustion process. Excess concentration of sulphur in the 0.54 microns group can only be accounted for by recondensation of sulphur vapors on the combustion aerosols and gas-to-particle phase conversion of sulfate vapors at the stack top
Use of low energy hydrogen ion implants in high efficiency crystalline silicon solar cells
This program is a study of the use of low energy hydrogen ion implantation for high efficiency crystalline silicon solar cells. The first quarterly report focuses on two tasks of this program: (1) an examination of the effects of low energy hydrogen implants on surface recombination speed; and (2) an examination of the effects of hydrogen on silicon regrowth and diffusion in silicon. The first part of the project focussed on the measurement of surface properties of hydrogen implanted silicon. Low energy hydrogen ions when bombarded on the silicon surface will create structural damage at the surface, deactivate dopants and introduce recombination centers. At the same time the electrically active centers such as dangling bonds will be passivated by these hydrogen ions. Thus hydrogen is expected to alter properties such as the surface recombination velocity, dopant profiles on the emitter, etc. In this report the surface recombination velocity of a hydrogen emplanted emitter was measured
Spin-charge and spin-orbital coupling effects on spin dynamics in ferromagnetic manganites
Correlation-induced spin-charge and spin-orbital coupling effects on spin
dynamics in ferromagnetic manganites are calculated with realistic parameters
in order to provide a quantitative comparison with experimental results for
spin stiffness, magnon dispersion, magnon damping, anomalous zone-boundary
magnon softening, and Curie temperature. The role of orbital degeneracy,
orbital ordering, and orbital correlations on spin dynamics in different doping
