Optical absorption spectra in SrCu_2O_3 two-leg spin ladder
We calculate the phonon-assisted optical-absorption spectra in SrCu_2O_3
two-leg spin-ladder systems. The results for two models proposed for SrCu_2O_3
are compared. In the model including the effects of a cyclic four-spin
interaction, the shoulder structure appears at 978 cm^{-1} and the peak appears
at 1975 cm^{-1} in the spectrum for polarization of the electric field parallel
to the legs. In the other model which describes a pure two-leg ladder, the peak
appears around the lower edge of the spectrum at 1344 cm^{-1}. The feature can

Do Students Get Enough Information Systems Education in the Business Core?
Information Systems/Technology is a key component in today’s business infrastructures with a myriad of ever-increasing and innovative applications fuelling the drive for competitive advantage. Therefore information systems education should be a critical element in business schools programs today to appropriately prepare students to be competitive. As our university was seeking AACSB accreditation we wanted to investigate what other programs were doing for the information systems area in the business core. Therefore data was acquired from 61 peer institutions, 89% of which are AACSB-accredited. Data about the components of the business core were collected from the university websites and analysed to determine the amount of the business core curriculum devoted to information systems. Analysis indicates that 85% of the peer institutions had one information systems course and only three percent had two information systems courses
Thermal transport in the hidden-order state of URuSi
We present a study of thermal conductivity in the normal state of the
heavy-fermion superconductor URuSi. Ordering at 18K leads to a
steep increase in thermal conductivity and (in contrast with all other cases of
magnetic ordering in heavy-fermion compounds) to an enhancement of the Lorenz
number. By linking this observation to several other previously reported
features, we conclude that most of the carriers disappear in the ordered state
and this leads to a drastic increase in both phononic and electronic

Factor Ordering and Path Integral Measure for Quantum Gravity in (1+1) Dimensions
We develop a mathematically rigorous path integral representation of the time evolution operator for a model of (1+1) quantum gravity that incorporates factor ordering ambiguity. In obtaining a suitable integral kernel for the time-evolution operator, one requires that the corresponding Hamiltonian is self-adjoint; this issue is subtle for a particular category of factor orderings. We identify and parametrize a complete set of self-adjoint extensions and provide a canonical description of these extensions in terms of boundary conditions. Moreover, we use Trotter-type product formulae to construct path-integral representations of time evolution
Frustration-induced eta inversion in the S=1/2 bond-alternating spin chain
We study the frustration-induced enhancement of the incommensurate
correlation for a bond-alternating quantum spin chain in a magnetic field,
which is associated with a quasi-one-dimensional organic compound F5PNN. We
investigate the temperature dependence of the staggered susceptibilities by
using the density matrix renormalization group, and then find that the
incommensurate correlation becomes dominant in a certain range of the magnetic
field. We also discuss the mechanism of this enhancement on the basis of the
mapping to the effective S=1/2 XXZ chain and a possibility of the field-induced
