Impact of the Intensive Program of Emotional Intelligence (IPEI) on middle man-agers’ emotional intelligence
Background: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the Intensive Program of Emo-tional Intelligence (IPEI; Fernández, 2015) on middle managers’ emotional intelligence, as this variable may have a significant impact on personal satisfaction, task performance, and work environment. Method: The intervention was applied on work team supervisors from a big call center, as it is an overlooked sector in this topic. Two-hundred and eighty-two supervisors from a Spanish multinational Madrid-based company (51.4% males and 48.6% females) participated in this study. Participants were assigned to the experimental group (n = 190) or the control group (n = 92) by availability, according to management decision. All supervisors filled in two questionnaires to evaluate the differ-ent components of intrapersonal emotional intelligence (i.e., attention, clarity, and repair; TMMS-24; Fernández-Berrocal, Extremera, & Ramos, 2004) and cognitive and affec-tive empathy (i.e., perspective taking, emotion understanding, empathic joy, and person-al distress; TECA; López-Pérez, Fernández, & Abad, 2008). Results: The findings showed an increase in the studied variables for the experimental group. Conclusions: The obtained results support middle managers’ training on emotional competences through short, efficient, and economic programs, and it was discussed potential limita-tions and implications of the obtained results
Constraints on an Optical Afterglow and on Supernova Light Following the Short Burst GRB 050813
We report early follow-up observations of the error box of the short burst GRB 050813 using the telescopes at Calar Alto and Observatorio Sierra Nevada, followed by deep VLT FORS2 I-band observations obtained under very good seeing conditions 5.7 and 11.7 days after the event. Neither a fading afterglow nor a rising SN component was found, so the potential GRB host galaxy has not been identified based on a comparison of the two VLT images taken at different epochs. We discuss whether any of the galaxies present in the original 1000 XRTerror circle could be the host.In anycase, the optical afterglow of GRB 050813 was of very low luminosity. We conclude that all these properties are consistent with the binary compact merger hypothesis for the progenitor of GRB 050813
The GRB 060218/SN 2006aj Event in the Context of other Gamma-Ray Burst Supernovae
The supernova SN 2006aj associated with GRB 060218 is the second-closest GRB-SN observed to date (z =0.033). We present Very Large Telescope, Liverpool Telescope, and Katzman Automatic Imaging Telescope multi-color photometry of SN 2006aj. This super-nova is found to be subluminous and rapidly evolving. Its early light curve includes an additional wavelength-dependent component, which can be interpreted as shock break-out. We compare the photometric evolution of multi-band light curves with the corresponding properties of the present sample of more than 10 GRB-SNe with precisely known redshifts. Using host-galaxy extinction measure-ments, we derive extinction-corrected GRB-SN luminosities and place SN 2006aj in the context of this GRB-selected supernova sample as well as in the context of local stripped-envelope supernovae
High CNT content composites with CNT bucky paper and epoxy resin matrix : impregnation behaviour, composite production and characterization
This work provides information on the characterization of carbon nanotube (CNT) skeletons, or Buckypapers,
using contact angle and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) measurements. The preparation of composites
using these CNT skeletons and an epoxy resin by impregnation in vacuum and cure in two moulds
with different release surfaces is described. Preliminary results for the mechanical performance of the
produced composites using mini-tensile test specimens and their characterization by TGA, dynamic
mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) is also presented. This study was performed in the frame of the project "Non-Conventional Matrix/CNT Reinforced Composites", Contract 20521/06/NL/SFe 19128 funded by ESA, the European Space Agency. The authors would like to acknowledge Prof. Maria C. Paiva for helping with the SEM analyses
