    Information integration platform for CIMS

    A new information integration platform for computer integrated manufacturing system (CIMS) is presented, which is based on agent and CORBA. CORBA enhances the system integration because it is an industry-standard for interoperable, distributed objects across heterogeneous hardware and software platform. Agent technology is used to improve intelligence of the integration system.     Efficacy of a pre-S containing vaccine in patients receiving lamivudine prophylaxis after liver transplantation for chronic hepatitis B

    Lamivudine monoprophylaxis against hepatitis B virus (HBV) reinfection after liver transplantation is associated with recurrence due to escape mutants and second generation recombinant HBV vaccine is not effective. We studied the efficacy of two courses each of three double-doses (20 ug) of third-generation recombinant pre-S containing vaccine (Sci-B-Vac™) in 20 patients on lamivudine prophylaxis at a median of 637 days (range, 390-2666 days) after transplantation. At enrollment, all patients were seronegative for HBsAg, anti-HBs and HBVDNA (by qPCR). Lamivudine (100 mg/day) was continued throughout the study. Five patients (25%) responded to the first course and five additional patients responded after the second course (overall response rate 50%). The response rate was 88% in patients younger than 50 years old and 25% in older patients (p = 0.02). The median peak anti-HBs titer was 153 mIU/mL with six responders having a titer >100 mIU/mL and seven sustained >6 months. Among seven previous nonresponders to second generation recombinant vaccine, three (44%) responded. At the end of the study, all patients remained seronegative for HBsAg. In conclusion, Sci-B-Vac™ is effective in about 50% of patients receiving lamividine prophylaxis and may prevent recurrence due to escape mutants. © 2006 The Authors.postprin

    Quantum field and uniformly accelerated oscillator

    We present an exact treatment of the influences on a quantum scalar field in its Minkowski vacuum state induced by coupling of the field to a uniformly accelerated harmonic oscillator. We show that there are no radiation from the oscillator in the point of view of a uniformly accelerating observer. On the other hand, there are radiations in the point of view of an inertial observer. It is shown that Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) like correlations of Rindler particles in Minkowski vacuum states are modified by a phase factor in front of the momentum-symmetric Rindler operators.     Lagrangian Floer superpotentials and crepant resolutions for toric orbifolds

    We investigate the relationship between the Lagrangian Floer superpotentials for a toric orbifold and its toric crepant resolutions. More specifically, we study an open string version of the crepant resolution conjecture (CRC) which states that the Lagrangian Floer superpotential of a Gorenstein toric orbifold X\mathcal{X} and that of its toric crepant resolution YY coincide after analytic continuation of quantum parameters and a change of variables. Relating this conjecture with the closed CRC, we find that the change of variable formula which appears in closed CRC can be explained by relations between open (orbifold) Gromov-Witten invariants. We also discover a geometric explanation (in terms of virtual counting of stable orbi-discs) for the specialization of quantum parameters to roots of unity which appears in Y. Ruan's original CRC ["The cohomology ring of crepant resolutions of orbifolds", Gromov-Witten theory of spin curves and orbifolds, 117-126, Contemp. Math., 403, Amer. Math. Soc., Providence, RI, 2006]. We prove the open CRC for the weighted projective spaces X=P(1,,1,n)\mathcal{X}=\mathbb{P}(1,\ldots,1,n) using an equality between open and closed orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants.     The Impact of Interpretation Biases on Psychological Responses to the COVID-19 Pandemic:a Prospective Study

    BACKGROUND: This study investigates the longitudinal role of interpretation biases in the development and maintenance of health anxiety during the pandemic. Individual differences in behavioural responses to the virus outbreak and decision-making were also examined. METHODS: Two hundred seventy-nine individuals from a pre-pandemic study of interpretation bias and health anxiety completed an online survey during the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Hong Kong. Participants’ health anxiety, interpretation biases, and COVID-specific behaviours (i.e. practice of social distancing, adherence to preventive measures, information seeking), and health decision-making were assessed. RESULTS: Pre-pandemic tendencies to interpret ambiguous physical sensations as signals for illness did not predict health anxiety during the pandemic, b = −0.020, SE = 0.024, t = −0.843, p = .400, 99% CI [−0.082, 0.042], but were associated with a preference for risky treatment option for COVID-19, b = 0.026, SE = 0.010, Wald = 2.614, p = .009, OR = 1.026, 99% CI [1.001, 1.054]. Interpretation biases and health anxiety symptoms during the pandemic were associated with each other and were both found to be significant predictors of practice of social distancing, adherence to preventive measures, and information seeking behaviour. CONCLUSIONS: This study adds to the growing evidence of the role of interpretation biases in health anxiety and the way that people respond to the ongoing pandemic.
