Three Kings and the Bright Star of Fame
Many phenomena in music history as well as in American history have helped develop and shape the types of music listened to today, but none have been so fresh as looking back to twentieth-century popular music and the several key individuals that āruledā in this area. These ārulersā were hailed as ākingsā firstly as a media ploy, but the American public did nothing but encourage the titles. This is somewhat confusing considering Americanās pride in their democratic political system but history shows that in several key American cultural changes the āKingsā crowned in the music sphere are representative of these changes.
While not difficult to determine who these individuals are, as most of them were hailed and recognized as āKingsā to their respective audiences. Benny Goodman, the King of Swing, in the 1920ās and 30ās helped usher in and popularize the Swing movement. Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll, capitalized (intentionally or not) on the move towards combining African-American sounds such as blues and jazz with folk, gospel, and soul, thus creating a whole new and extremely popular sound. Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, was practically born into fame with his involvement with the āJackson 5,ā but that did not stop him from rising up the ladder of fame in his solo career to change the face of pop music forever. There were also many artists that surrounded these ākings,ā a court, if you will, that allowed their new styles to proliferate throughout American culture, and sometimes even surpassed them musically. However, as icons, these men stand on their own for their achievements in music and their ability to change and adapt to the culture around them. By looking at the three Kings of American pop cultureās past, it is possible to see the direction of Americaās culture in general from the 1920ās on and perhaps see the trajectory of music of the USA toda
Current definitions of ātransdiagnosticā in treatment development: A search for consensus
Research in psychopathology has identified psychological processes that are relevant across a range of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) mental disorders, and these efforts have begun to produce treatment principles and protocols that can be applied transdiagnostically. However, review of recent work suggests that there has been great variability in conceptions of the term ātransdiagnosticā in the treatment development literature. We believe that there is value in arriving at a common understanding of the term ātransdiagnostic.ā The purpose of the current manuscript is to outline three principal ways in which the term ātransdiagnosticā is currently used, to delineate treatment approaches that fall into these three categories, and to consider potential advantages and disadvantages of each approachFirst author draf
Retain
Retain is a variety of creeping foxtail (Alopecurus arundinaceus Poir.) developed by the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station and released February 1, 1979. Retain does not shatter its seed immediately as it matures as does the Garrison variety of this species. It is possible to leave Retain until it has ripened and harvest it with a sickle bar combine. The greater ease of harvesting and higher yields will make the seed more readily available. Creeping foxtail is adapted to low, fairly saline areas which are flooded for about two weeks in the spring. It wil not stand as much flooding or yield as much forage as reed canary grass but is more palatable and digestible. Seed increased by the Foundation Seed Stock Division has been released to a South Dakota seed firm. Certified seed will be available from harvests made in 1981 or 1982. Plant Variety Protection has been applied for, so Retain will be sold only by variety name as certified seed

Development of a single-session, transdiagnostic preventive intervention for young adults at risk for emotional disorders
Cognitive-behavioral prevention programs have demonstrated efficacy in reducing subclinical symptoms of anxiety and depression, and there is some evidence to suggest that they can lower the risk of future disorder onset. However, existing interventions tend to be relatively lengthy and target specific disorders or problem areas, both of which limit their potential for widespread dissemination. To address these limitations, we aimed to develop a single-session, transdiagnostic preventive intervention based on the Unified Protocol for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders for young adults at risk for developing anxiety and/or depressive disorders within a college setting. Results from this proof-of-concept study indicated that the intervention was viewed as highly satisfactory and acceptable. The intervention also was successful at delivering adaptive emotion management skills in its 2-hr workshop format. Future studies evaluating the efficacy of this novel transdiagnostic, emotion-focused prevention program are warranted.Accepted manuscrip
