Media Use for Professional Information Among German Dentists
OBJECTIVES: The purpose of the study was to assess the media use for professional information among German dentists on the basis of a representative survey.
METHODS: After questionnaire development and pretests, 3000 questionnaires were mailed to German dentists in early October 2000. The random sample was taken by systematic sampling from the database of the German Federal Dentists Chamber. The survey wasannounced in a German Dental Journal (Zahn‰rztliche Mitteilungen).
RESULTS: The return rate amounted to 28.9% (n=866). Among the questioned dentists, 39.7% had an Internet access in their workplace / practice, 61.4% a private access at home. 46% used the Internet not at all as a source of information. 21.3% for up to an hour a week and 10.2% for more than an hour a week. The importance of the Internet as a source of information is given as high
by 30.5% of respondents, 49.1% said its importance was average and 15.3% saw it as low, 5.1% didn\u27t answer this question. The preference for mediation of scientific information were given as shown in the table below (percentage of high importance):

CONCLUSION: With a rather low return-rate, this study has only an explorative character. Although a high availability of the Internet in the private area was present, the possibilities of electronic procurement of information were used only cautiously. For the supply of overview works or statements, conventional means such

Contemporary human H3N2 influenza a viruses require a low threshold of suitable glycan receptors for efficient infection
Recent human H3N2 influenza A viruses (IAV) have evolved to employ elongated glycans terminating in α2,6-linked sialic acid as their receptors. These glycans are displayed in low abundancies by (humanized) Madin-Darby Canine Kidney cells (MDCK and hCK) which are commonly employed to propagate IAV, resulting in low or no viral propagation. Here, we examined whether the overexpression of the glycosyltransferases B3GNT2 and B4GALT1, which are responsible for the elongation of poly-N-acetyllactosamines (LacNAc), would result in improved A/H3N2 propagation. Stable overexpression of B3GNT2 and B4GALT1 in MDCK and hCK cells was achieved by lentiviral integration and subsequent antibiotic selection and confirmed by qPCR and protein mass spectrometry experiments. Flow cytometry and glycan mass spectrometry experiments using the B3GNT2 and/or B4GALT1 knock-in cells demonstrated increased binding of viral hemagglutinins and the presence of a larger number of LacNAc repeating units, especially on hCK-B3GNT2 cells. An increase in the number of glycan receptors did, however, not result in a greater infection efficiency of recent human H3N2 viruses. Based on these results, we propose that H3N2 IAVs require a low number of suitable glycan receptors to infect cells and that an increase in the glycan receptor display above this threshold does not result in improved infection efficiency
Stimulant Medication and Reading Performance
The study examined the sustained effects of methylphenidate on reading performance in a sample of 42 boys, ages 8 to 11, with attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Two subgroups were formed based on the presence or absence of co-occurring conduct disorders. Subjects were selected on the basis of their positive response to methylphenidate as determined in a series of original medication trials (Forness, Cantwell, Swanson, Hanna, & Youpa, 1991). For the purpose of this study, subjects were placed on their optimal dose of medication for a 6-week period and then tested on measures of oral reading and reading comprehension equivalent to those used in the original trials, retested after a week without medication (placebo), then tested again the following week after return to medication. Only the subgroup with conduct disorders responded, and this response was limited to reading comprehension improvement in only those subjects who also demonstrated improvement in oral reading on original trials. Reassessing the Impact of High Performance Workplaces
High performance workplace practices were extolled as an efficient means to increase firm productivity. The empirical evidence is disputed, however. To assess the productivity effects of a broad variety of measures, we simultaneously account for both unobserved heterogeneity and endogeneity using establishment panel data for Germany. We show that increasing employee participation enhances firm productivity in Germany, whereas incentive systems do not foster productivity. Our results further indicate that firms with structural productivity problems tend to introduce organisational changes that increase employee participation whereas well performing firms are more likely to offer incentives
Rare solid and cystic presentation of hemangiopericytoma/ solitary fibrous tumor: A case report
Hemangiopericytoma/Solitary Fibrous Tumor (HPC/SFT) is a rare fibroblastic sarcoma characterized by hyper-vasculature and STAT6 trans-nuclear localization. Cystic HPC/SFT is extremely rare. Due to the scarcity of cystic HPC/SFT cases, diagnostic and treatment guidelines are not well established. To our knowledge, we present the first case of cystic HPC/SFT observed in the liver. In addition, the patient had over 6 years of recurrent hypervascular solid HPC/SFT in the brain, bone, leptomeninges, liver and lung prior to developing a cystic HPC/SFT. Briefly, a 37-year-old Caucasian female with a history of HPC/SFT presented with several enlarging cystic hepatic lesions on surveillance MRI. The cystic/nonenhancing nature of these liver metastases were confirmed by contrast-enhanced ultrasound. Due to diagnostic uncertainty, two of these hepatic cysts were removed laparoscopically and pathology confirmed cystic HPC/SFT with a high MIB-1 index. Previously, in 2014, the patient was diagnosed with solid intracranial grade III pseudopapillary mesenchymal HPC/SFT in the posterior fossa and underwent subtotal resection followed by external beam radiation. In 2017, she had recurrent intracranial, vertebral, and intraspinal intradural extramedullary HPC/SFTs followed by surgery, proton therapy, and SRS radiotherapy. In 2019, after an uneventful pregnancy and birth, routine surveillance revealed metastases in the liver requiring an extended right hepatectomy. In 2020-2021 two solid hypervascular hepatic HPC/SFT were found and treated with microwave ablation. Shortly afterwards, several rapidly growing hepatic cystic HPC/SFT lesions developed. Of note, she has not taken any systemic therapy, indicating the cystic tumors are from metastases rather than cystic degradation as a sequela of therapy. Overall, this case highlights that cystic metastasis are a potential clinical manifestation of solid HPC/SFT. Moreover, cystic HPC/SFT can co-exist with the more typical primary solid hypervascular HPC/SFTs in the same patient. Lastly, in this case cystic HPC/SFT had a higher growth rate and propensity to metastasize as compared to the solid equivalent.Peer reviewe
